QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) At the time you sign up for them yes...but then within a year or two it'll go the other way, because the fraction of your available credit you're using will have gone down. Plus it's not like I'm opening a new line of credit every time I buy something either. I just get a few small things every so often to keep the card active and when it comes time to make a large purchase, I have the no interest financing available already.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) Signing up for all these credit cards can f*** up your credit rating. It's never been a problem for us. We make all our payments on time and have always had a really good credit score.

I finally saw these 2 commercials last night. The AJ one is great but I think the one last year titled "Lefty" was even better. Especially the last few seconds when Buehrle walks past. "We need to draft more righties."

I've never had that problem with their games. At least with the story-related missions. The only thing that really drags on for me are the side-missions that I'm always compelled to complete so I can get the illusive 100% completion. GTA IV was especially bad with the 200 "flying rats" you had to find and kill. With RDR I purposely went through the game slowly. I'd do a mission or two, then go hunting for some animals, then do a side-quest, then I might play some poker, then just ride around to see what I could do. It seemed to break it up a little better that way and I never got bored with it.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) There needs to be a national sales tax that states share in. One single tax rate, one payee. Companies would have an easy time computing and remitting the payments. Consumers would all be charged equally. That would be simpler than brick and mortar stores that have to track state, county, and local sales tax rates. This is what many have been suggesting since this law came about. One advantage that I just thought of that brick and mortar stores have over Amazon is interest-free financing. It's something I always get when I buy a big ticket item. About a month ago I had to buy a dryer and got 18-months no interest from Lowes. I do the same thing when I buy a computer or a TV.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Buying bottled tap water that may be subject to even less regulations than municipal water is still a dumb idea. But I really do shake my head at people who buy case after case of bottled water even though they get Lake Michigan water at home. The water from the fountains at my work tastes really odd to me. I don't know if it's because I didn't grow up with it or what. At home we use a Brita water pitcher.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) I liked it a lot. I think I still like San Andreas the best though. I did too. I especially like the taxi cabs that will take you anywhere you want to go. Saves tons of driving time. Currently I'm finishing up The Ballad of Gay Tony and plan on playing The Lost and Damned next. It's interesting to re-play some of the missions from the original GTA IV from a different perspective.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) Do you write code for the Jitterbug? I'm not old, just about 10 years behind in my technology.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Especially when you can still get really crappy phones that can do nothing more than text and make calls for free and the server plans attached to them wouldn't cost much. It's just that nobody wants that garbage now heh. That's all my phone does. I only pay $130/month for 4 phones.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) My interpretation was trophies ONLY to the winners, not participation trophies for everyone. Which I agree with - when my Pee Wee League team finished 7th out of 8, there was no trophy, nor should there have been. When my Pony League team went undefeated, there was a deserved 1st-place trophy, and it meant something. I'm kinda torn on this issue. I understand why people are against the “everybody wins and we are all equal” mentality but most of the time the trophies for first or second place are much bigger than the participation trophies everyone gets. The fact that certain teams get 2 trophies instead of just one sets them apart IMO. IIRC, when I played as a kid we got a ribbon or something instead of an actual trophy. I don’t think it would have mattered. We knew what place we were in at the end of the year and having a participation trophy wouldn’t have made us feel any better about it.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) It was marketed as a burger for grown ups. I think it was 1/3 pound with bacon, some spicy sauce, and served on a thick bun. It's called the Big N' Tasty now. McDLT = Arch Deluxe = Big N' Tasty.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) That is how they make people pay taxes on vehicles. Cigarettes are also a big one they want people to report on their tax forms. But my point remains the same. Why should I pay taxes on something if I buy it in another state when I can't get it in my own state?
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) Only if you had the item shipped to you. If you bought it, and paid the sales tax, you would not need to pay a second sales tax. They way I read it was that it's for anything you buy out of state. Having something shipped to you is just the most common way. http://www.revenue.state.il.us/Individuals...e-Tax.htm"" target="_blank">Illinois State Website From the FAQS

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) The last few jobs I got in the IT industry were through recruiters who often get you interviews without the need of cover letters. Many companies, such as mine, used recruiters to fill positions, and often went with who recruiters sent their way vs people sending blind resumes for their public job postings. Same with me although with my first job the recruiter actually found me. I applied for one job and she called me and told me that position was no longer open but there was a position with another company that she knew about if I wanted to apply for it instead. The job I have now I found through a former co-worker. I've filled out 100's of applications both online and in person and gotten a few interviews but that's all. Knowing somebody is definitely the key.

I got this in my email on Saturday. People don't really fall for these things anymore do they? I haven't been an AOL customer since the mid 90's. While I'm certainly glad this came to their "attension" it's too bad the "massage" already expired.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Of course every recruiter will have a different idea of what they want to see in a resume but their are many key parts that many students don't know, for example, don't just put down what your title meant, but how you improved the organization or team during your tenure. It is expected that a Philanthropy Chair held events to raise money, but did you really do better than your predecessor, what skills did you use to improve your position. I’ve always had trouble doing this. I was with my previous employer for 11 years but when I sat down to write out my resume I really had to ask myself, what the hell did I actually *DO* in those 11 years? I’ve never been about to actually quantify my work into numbers besides the number of projects I worked on. I can’t say that any of them saved the company X number of dollars or allowed them to sell X amount of product. Typically the stuff I did was to make the job of somebody else slightly easier.

Link Sounds like they are trying to get all 50 states to do the same thing Illinois is now doing or make a federal law. Which is the only way it would make sense. This was interesting though: Quinn had to know they would do the same thing here. Shocking. I don’t entirely agree with the use tax anyway. If I go to another state and buy a souvenir while I’m there (say like a shirt or a hat with the name of the place I’m at) I’m expected to report and pay Illinois tax on that if the place I bought it happens to charge less sales tax?

QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 05:15 AM) Holy s***. I felt my brain melting and dripping out of my earhole. That is awful, even by Disney Channel "standards". I don't know if that girl is a Disneybot, but she sure seems to be. I finally watched this last night since I kept reading about it everywhere and it was up to 13 million views on YouTube. Then they played it and made fun of it on the radio this morning so now I actually have it stuck in my head. Honestly, I don't see much difference between this song and every other Disney/Nickelodeon/bubble gum pop song that's come out in the last few years.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) Iowa isn't exactly close enough to draw fans away from going to the Cubs like a suburban AAA affiliate would be. That really makes it the perfect distance away then. Close enough to become a fan of the regular team and make a few road trips to Chicago throughout the year but not so close as to draw fans away from watching the MLB team. We had a Cubs affiliate in Rockford at one time in the late 90’s too. The Rockford Cubbies. Puke. Now we have a team from an independent league. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) There isn't much you can do anymore. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) There aren't good solutions to the global problems that capitalism are presenting right now. OK. What do we do about the problem this thread is about? The fact that companies are leaving Illinois to go to other states?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) You're not doing a lot to convince me otherwise, there. You're basically saying that we need to keep giving in to the demands of businesses more and more or they'll ship our jobs to another state (or more likely another country). Like I said, the most business-friendly environment is a pretty terrible environment and that isn't what states should be trying to out-do each other to reach. edit: my snarky posts don't mean I don't understand and haven't considered what you posted before you posted it. So what is it that we should do to keep companies from shipping our jobs to another state/country? Obviously passing this bill wasn't the solution.
