It’s a tougher argument because I think the popularity of HS sports is very, very localized. In the Rockford area, HS sports are largely ignored.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Than it's definitely better than this weak DVR set up on Xfinity. One box. Watch one show while recording another. That's it. Apparently I’m spoiled with my DirecTV DVR. I can do all the same things Chili just mentioned.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) This season of Whose Line is it Anyway is off to a great start, for anyone who likes the show. Who's Line was always one of my favorite shows. Although I'm kinda disappointed that Drew isn't the host anymore. He was always such an easy target for jokes. Aisha doesn't seem to get involved as much and doesn't do a skit at the end of the show. I wonder if having a "guest star" is going to be something they do for every episode now.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Just get the news to me, I don't need someone calling me or talking to me face to face, just make sure I receive it. That’s actually part of the argument. If you send something via text, email or FB there’s a chance the person won’t get the message. At least with a phone call or F2F you know for sure they got it. Honestly though, it really depends on the importance of the message.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) So basically, because baseball got smart to these guys skating around the rules and changed them up to make them more fair for the rest of baseball, it's not Theo and Jed's fault that the Cubs haven't won. Meanwhile, the White Sox went from being old, broken down, and expensive to being a young, energetic team on the rise in 1 offseason. Sounds like Theo and Jed were playing The Show and the difficulty just went from Rookie to Hall of Fame. It's more like they took the money cheat away. Between that and a fact he actually mentions in the article (The Red Sox were better to start with) I'm not sure Epstien is the genius many make him out to be. It's really, really difficult to completely blow up a team and then build a WS champion from the ground up which is what they are trying to do. They have no wiggle room to miss on a single prospect or trade.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 07:00 PM) NBC had 2 forecast models going. Biggest difference was Rockford. One said .8 inches, the other said 8.8. Little bit of a difference. I think we ended up with .2 inches. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) If you weren't alive to remember 77/78/79 this is true. I heard that this is the third snowiest winter on record. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) graduates from middle school This phrase is a pet peeve of mine.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 10:50 PM) only 3-7 inches tomorrow...after being 56 today... And back into the 50's again on Friday.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) Hey, if you want that money, you dont move out of the house. Plain and simple. I agree. It just seems like people are getting the facts confused.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) The point is there are many options, and in the end college is optional, not mandatory. Me and you both have no idea what she is eligible for, has applied for, been denied. All we know right now is this girl is saying that her parents owe her college tuition. To that, I disagree What I read was that she is suing her parents for tuition to the private HS that she is still attending and for an existing college fund that apparently she doesn’t have access to without their permission. So it’s money they had already marked for her college tuition.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) The way I see it, it's the parent's responsibility to pay her college tuition. She shouldn't have to sue them. Kids don't ask to be born and if you make the decision that you want kids, it's your responsibility to educate them so they can have a legit shot at being successful. That's how I see it. My kids are going to college, they have no say in this My kids are on their own for college. Just like me, my wife and all my friends were. I honestly can’t think of a single person that I know personally that had their college paid for by their parents.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) I cant fathom not working like some kids do. Where the hell do they get spending money? They don't need it because they never leave the house.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) Just remember this...I looked it up a while back, only 20% of fast food counter workers are under the age of 25, everyone else is someone older needing a job. The world of "still there for the taking" jobs doesn't exist right now. I wonder what the numbers for other forms of employment are? Like retail or grocery stores? I purposely stayed away from fast-food jobs when I was a teenager. I worked at a bowling alley, a toy store, a sporting goods store and a drug store before I got my first "real" job. When I was in HS it seemed like half my friends worked at either a grocery store or a local call center.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) What's the distinction there? I could be confusing it with the Arizona law that was just vetoed but it’s not about allowing businesses to discriminate against gays. They can already do that. It’s about freedom for business owners to discriminate without fear of lawsuits. -

Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the point of the law not to allow business owners to discriminate against gays but to protect them from being sued for discriminating against gays? -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) They're worried about a court deciding that sexuality is a protected class, which has happened in a couple other states. I’m surprised this hasn’t happened at the federal level yet. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) I'm curious, what if you owned a business and a customer came in with a handgun strapped to their body? Would you be ok serving them despite your fear/dislike of guns? Being a gun owner is a choice. It's not comparible. -
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) I keep seeing the bucket list comment. Please, if you love the White Sox and baseball to be an active message board poster, get yourself to spring training. If not now or next year, when? It's been (I hear) the worst winter in 30+ years. Take some time off, book a flight to AZ, and come check out baseball paradise on earth. With the temps and weather we've been having (90+ this weekend), it's looking like the warmest nicest spring training in recent memory. Get out of the artic cold, come out for some warm weather and baseball. It'll be worth it. Wanne and I have laid out a map of what to do and not to do to help you plan it and with all the advice you've got from other Sox fans who have done it in the past in this thread alone, you can make it happen. Stay warm. It’s on my bucket list too. When I can find a job that gives me PTO, I’ll have better chance.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) There is a reason Indiana is called the "crossroads of america" its only designed for you to drive through, nobody in their right mind stays. They have some amazing food in Shipshewana.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 11:24 PM) Our state leaders just passed a law saying businesses can turn down gays for service (restaurants, movie theatres, gas stations, wherever) because of religious objections. If you are a business owner and object to gays for religious reasons you can refuse to serve them. Is this godawful state the only one with such a law? Finally, this state's governor turned down all that free money from the government regarding medicare for some reason that angers me to no end. My question to you is: Is Kansas the worst state in the union? Is Kansas a joke? What do you think of my first paragraph? First of all it’s only passed the House. The Senate has yet to vote so it’s not a law yet. Secondly, the way it’s worded seems way too broad to me because it includes state employees. DMV, police, fire, hospitals can all refuse service because the person is gay? Link -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) Tip of the day: Don't build a museum for expensive cars in an area with lots of caves. I went to that museum 5 or 6 years ago and remember standing in that room. I think I have pictures of it somewhere. We did visit a few caves while we were down there as well.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) I run Avast! on both of my home computers. I've had it for years without any problems. I ran Avast for years with no problems but a couple of months ago my computer suddenly started rebooting itself randomly for no reason at all. My wife mentioned that it had started happening right after a recent Avast update. I uninstalled it and haven’t had any problems since. I’ve been wary of it since then.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) And you are just making stuff up now anyway. Jeff Samardzija got a $2.5 million signing bonus, as a part of a 5 year $10 million contract when he signed, plus team options that put the contract out as much as $16.5 million, or damned close to what the Sox paid for ALL of their draft picks from 2007 to 2011. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2736354 Great job making stuff up though. I'd walk away now too, if I got busted lying like that. Wasn't he drafted by the Cubs in 2006?

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) In three months when I'm sweltering in 100+ temps people sill post the balmy 70s and 80s. It all evens out. Relative cold is still cold. It depends on what you are trying to do. I tried to change the bulb in my headlight last night and just about froze my hands off. If it was 40 and drizzly or 90+ in the shade I would have been perfectly happy.
