QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Big Bang is the same joke over....and over....and over...and over....and over...and over....and over...and over....and over...and over again. The worst show on tv. What joke is that? I haven’t kept up with the newer episodes but I catch the reruns on TBS all the time and have really enjoyed it the past few years. I’ve only caught them sporadically but the shows Men At Work and Ground Floor seem pretty funny as well.

I’m curious what the wording in the contract looks like and if there’s actually something in there that says the Cubs *can’t* block their view. If it just says they have to give the Cubs some percentage of their income and their income drops to 0 because of the signs, should the Cubs really care?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) I have a white gold band and wear it 24/7/365. I only take it off to mess with it and itch my finger. I take mine off twice a year to get it cleaned/inspected at the store.

My only complaint with DirectTV was the fact that they couldn’t put the dish on the roof where I wanted it. I have a perfect spot for it on the back of my house where it wouldn’t put holes in the new roof I just paid to have put on last year. The installer said they couldn’t put it anywhere that he’d have to get off his ladder due to the weather. Then he said if we wanted it mounted on a pole in the grass it would be an extra $75 on the spot by either cash or check. So we ended up having to put it on our back deck. I specifically asked about this when I called them and those issues were never brought up.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Alright, f*** it. With this impending snow storm, i'm buying a snow blower. Anyone have any recommendations? I have a pretty typical suburban 2 car wide driveway, probably 30-35 ft long and some walkways to the front door and back door. The only wrinkle is that my driveway is angled, so where it meets the road it always gets 2-4 feet deep because of the trucks plowing the street. What would people recommend? A manual single stage or a larger self-propelled double stage blower? I'd prefer not to have to create an oil/gas mix since my lawn mower doesn't require it. I've heard most single stage models require the mix. I’ve gone through a couple of small single stage blowers that required the mixed gas and they always seemed to be more of a PITA to deal with than what they were worth. I only have a shovel right now but my next blower is going to be a 2-stage.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) My fn Comcast bill went up $20 this month for no reason. We had basic cable through Comcast and it seemed like they were raising their prices every other month. It was over $80. So we finally decided to switch to DirectTV. $61 for the first 3 months + free HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc… After 3 months we’ll cancel the movie channels and it will go up $10. Plus we have an offer for a $200 rebate. I’m just excited that we finally have a DVR.

It depends on your definition of a troll. If you mean someone that just comes into threads to say something stupid, insult others and generally add nothing to the conversation, then no message board needs them. If you mean someone that will play devil’s advocate or disagree on certain points while also having a valid, reasoned opinion that may go against the majority, then that’s fine. It promotes discussion. If everyone always agreed on everything, it would be pretty boring.

I can still get OTA channels in my trailer when we are camping. I only get 4 or 5 channels though.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) Pretty much every part of the country has to deal with some sort of extreme weather at some time throughout the year. What's unique about the Midwest is that we often deal with high heat and humidty; snow, ice, and frigid temps; and violent thunderstorms and tornadoes every year. Think about this: If around July 6 it gets to be in the upper 90s (which is entirely possible), that would be about a 115 degree temperature swing in 6 months. That sort of temperature span doesn't happen throughout the country. I've lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Alaska, Connecticut, Maryland, and Illinois, and the weather here is by far the most diverse. Don’t like our weather? Just wait a few minutes. It’ll change.

I’d rather cut my yard with a pair of dull scissors than shovel or snowblow any amount of snow.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) The thing is I trust myself and the people around me to know when they've hit that point. You have much more faith in your fellow man than I (and many others) do. I just think that the more people we can get off the road before they kill someone rather than after, the better we are. If we happen to catch a couple of people that “only had a couple of beers” and still decided to drive fully knowing the possible consequences, that's just a risk we have to live with.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) It's not as dangerous as people make it out to be. This teenage girl that weighs like 110 lbs was legally drunk and high on scripts managed to drag race a Lamborghini without incident. There's maybe 50 people in this country that are actually f***ed up at .10; much less .08. It's all about control and the pockets of criminal defense lawyers who would be on SNAP if those laws went away. I think you’re actually arguing two separate things here. If you are saying that .08 is too low of a limit to be considered drunk, that’s one thing. But I think most people are taking your comments as saying that it’s ok to go get blackout drunk, drive home and as long as you don’t hurt anyone, there should be no problem. Unless that’s actually what you are saying…

For a while it seemed like we were buying a new vacuum every year. We had problems with the belts constantly breaking, the motors burning out or they would just stop picking stuff up. We even bought one at an actual vacuum store and still had problems with it. We finally seem to have a decent one now. It’s not a Dyson but it’s not a bottom of the line one either. It seems like with vacuums you really pay for what you get. I’ve always heard Dyson owners say they love theirs. If their claim of never having loss of suction is true, then it might be worthwhile. With as much money as we’ve put out for them, we probably should’ve just gotten a Dyson years ago.

Am I the only person excited for season 2 of King of the Nerds? They did a marathon of the first season late last night/early this morning and I stayed up way too late watching it.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) I'm gonna turn this one around on ya here pal. What languages do you write in? Your handle peaked my interst. Mainframe stuff. I’m most familiar with Cobol, PL/1, CICS, JCL and Natural. I’ve taken classes for Assembler, RPG, C++, VB, SQL and Python but I’ve never used them in the real world. For some reason I’ve never been able to get a real good handle on OOP.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) We'll know next week, when the deadline comes for Tanaka to sign and for the team winning his services to pay the $20 million posting fee to Rakuten. Anything before that is guesswork. Yet this thread continues to roll along.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) I like to think it started with the Sox winning the World Series. If anything, that helped ramp up their excitement even more. It seemed like from 2003 to 2008 they had some reason to believe it was going to be "their" year. From blowing up the bartman ball to the Red Sox and White Sox ending their streaks to the 100 year anniversary and "It's gonna happen". They finally started to realize that no matter what reason you come up with for this year to be THE year, you actually need a good team and a little bit of luck to go along with it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) Add on top of that, Cub fans are FINALLY getting sick of losing I think a lot of them started giving up after the 2008 season. The 100 year anniversary combined with getting swept out of the post-season for the 2nd year in a row really turned a lot of fans away. It's just been getting worse ever since.

I'm told that I came within a fraction of an inch from taking out my right eye twice before I was even 3 years old. One time was from the corner of a coffee table and the other time was from the corner of a metal door of a camping trailer. Both times I hit them right at the corner of my eye. I don't remember either accident but I have two small scars, although they both moved slightly away from my eye as I got older.

My wife got a Kindle for Christmas and found an ebay auction selling Kindle-version books. How is that even possible/legal? I’m new to all this but I thought that when you buy an e-book, it only went to a single device or account.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) They aren't spending "all of their money" on it. With the budgetary limits that have been placed in those areas, there is a pretty good chance they are spending less in terms of real dollars than the ever had before. I wasn’t even necessarily talking about the draft. I was talking about spending more on scouts/scouting and getting the managers in the minors all teaching the players the same thing the same way, all the way up through the majors. I’ve heard them talking about “the cub way” a few times and even having a written manual that explains it.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) Well I wonder if Grand Wizard Theo told him that he planned on tanking several seasons before the team may be good again. I think it was pretty well known that they planned to break it all down and try to rebuild the entire system from the ground up. I’m just not sure if they expected to a) be as awful as they have been the last couple of years and b) to have so much trouble trying to renovate the stadium. I also think the rules that changed about how much money they can spend on draft picks hurt them a lot.
