QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) SOA... I wanted to stop watching completely after that. I literally got choked up. I remember watching that and being in absolute shock. I figured he was a lock to be the VP of the club when they got out. I couldn’t believe it was him over Tig. The worst part is that they continuously use that scene in the “previously on Sons of Anarchy” for the rest of the season.
  2. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Holy shift! The shift “worked” in the sense that the batter hit right into it. But the fielder threw the ball home and it was a little off course so they got the out at the plate but couldn’t get the runner at first. A conventional 4-6-3 DP would’ve gotten them out of the inning. The next batter drove in the winning run.
  3. Sure that makes sense but it can also depend on how long you have left to pay on the loans as well. If I have a higher interest loan that won't be paid off for another 4 years and a lower interest loan that will be payed off within a year, I'm going to pay off the lower interest one first. Then I can take the money I was using for that loan and add it on the higher interest one until it's gone. Then if there's a month where I need that extra money for something else, it's there. I paid off a car loan in less than a year simply because I was sick of the bank screwing up my payments. Now I have "extra" money to pay for other things.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) There's not really a good financial incentive to paying the loan off early if they're lending you the money for free. It’s nice to have one less payment to worry about every month.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) Kari, Tory, and Grant are leaving Mythbusters. http://www.eonline.com/news/571864/mythbus...eaving-the-show I didn’t even know they were still making new episodes. I figured at this point it was all re-runs.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:45 AM) That's just an awful article. The author completely ignores that every major attendance spike of the past 30 years coincided with a Cubs playoff appearance. Attendance reached an all-time high in 2008 because the team had the best record in the entire National League. Do people attend Cubs games just for the Wrigley experience? Of course. But that ballpark won't fill if the team completely sucks for years on end. Yea, it only looks bad because they are comparing it to the years when they were consistently over 3 million every year no matter what. Sure it’s down a little now but they were drawing over 2.5 million in the early 2000’s as well when they were losing 90+ games a year. Another couple years of missing the playoffs and they’ll be under 2 million.
  7. I figured if that were the case I would've gotten a regret letter by now. But to be completely ignored after everything they've said/done is just really odd. I also thought that once my references were contacted that it was almost a sure thing.
  8. So after 3 weeks of consistent communication (both face-to-face and via email) with multiple people and with everything going as absolutely perfect as possible, “I’ll be in touch next week” has now turned into 2 weeks of complete and absolute radio silence. I’m not really sure how to proceed or if I should even do anything at all. I'm debating whether it would be proper to send an email asking for an update or not.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) New heater core + new tie rod end. Ouch. I’m going to stand by my statement that going to the dealership for repairs should be a last resort. I blew an engine a couple of years ago and had the entire thing replaced for about that much. Whatever money you saved on buying the new car will go back to them via the service department.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) I didn't realize this many people still washed dishes by hand. I'd hate life with out my dishwasher. My kitchen is too small for a dishwasher. I actually know quite a few people that don't have one.
  11. I would actually suggest finding a decent mechanic and stop taking your car to the dealership for repairs. There's a reason dealerships make the majority of their profit from service and repairs. I don't know what repair you are getting for $1500 but I'm guessing it would be a whole lot cheaper somewhere else.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) Great post. I am not outraged, but I have watched college softball and volleyball and damn those girls (women) can play ball. Those softball infielders have quick reflexes and great arms. They can scoop anything. And volleyball? They'd beat the hell out of any fraternity team that might want to play 'em. I thought of the women studs I've seen compete at Kansas when Hawk said that. But I repeat, I am not outraged at all and generally I hate walking on eggshells PC outrage. But I agree with the above post a lot. IMHO, if you were to put a women's team in almost any sport up against an equivalent men's team (i.e. women's college basketball vs men's college basketball or women's fast-pitch softball vs men's fast-pitch softball), the guys are going to win more than 90% of the time. That’s not to take anything away from female athletes. It’s just simple fact that males are typically bigger, faster and stronger.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) This season of Whose Line is it Anyway has been the absolute funniest thing since way back to the English version with Clive Anderson hosting. None of the seasons done in the US has ever come close to this season. Really? I like the shows with Drew Carey better. They’ve been a little more risqué than they were with Drew, but I don’t really like having the special guests for every. single. episode. Before it was sort of a treat to have a special guest star. Like when they had Robin Williams or Richard Simmons. I also enjoyed watching them burn Drew all the time. Especially when they did a ho-down at the end of the show with him. They don’t pick on Aisha nearly as much. She’s basically there to announce what game they are playing and that’s it. They don\t even do the games where they need audience suggestions or participation anymore. It’s the same games every show. Let’s make a date, scenes from a hat, props, song with special guest star, helping hands, end show.
  14. We don't have room for a dishwasher in my house, so my kids take turns doing them. They fill the sink with hot, soapy water and wash them with a sponge or a brush. Leaving the water running and using soap on each individual dish would be incredibly wasteful. My wife insists there's an order to doing them as well. Utensils first, then cups, then plates and bowls, then pots and pans. She says anything that touches your mouth should be done when the water is hottest/soapiest.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) So how'd Chicago do last weekend? 30 or more murders? Or are things getting better? I think if any city got 30 or more murders over a single weekend it would be national news.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Chicago is a war zone. This is very very very unacceptable and sad. 47 people shot over the weekend? God help us all. What a world we live in. http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/21/justice/chic....html?hpt=hp_t2 I know this will destroy your view of the world but you should read this article. http://reason.com/archives/2014/07/21/the-...nce-in-chicago/
  17. It’s been shown before that eye witnesses can be pretty damn unreliable. You can have 5 different people witness the same accident and hear 5 different stories about what happened.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) So this entire time the difference between Buehrle and your average #4/5 soft tossing lefty has been defense. Wow. It’s a little deeper than that. They specifically mention HIS defense and fielding ability, not just the guys playing behind him. Not to mention his ability to completely shut the opponent’s running game down.
  19. If you hate what you do every day, no amount of money will ever make up for it. If you have the means to make a change, then do it. It only gets harder the longer you wait.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 11:02 PM) Good to hear. When I watch those "jail" shows on TV, sometimes it doesn't seem too bad in there. When they interview the actual prisoners in shows like Lockup, they don’t exactly paint a rosy picture of being there. They make due with what they have to get by but I’ve never heard a single one say they actually like it there or want to be there. There’s a reason the criminals typically do everything they can to not get caught so they don’t have to go there.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) The guy who killed my friend and three other women is in El Dorado jail. He's tried to escape repeatedly; he's been convicted of having drugs in jail. I was reading he's quite the popular prisoner, kind of a kingpin. I don't really understand how this can happen in prison. They need to treat scumbags like this guy like the pieces of s*** they are, but instead they get drugs in prison, they try to escape repeatedly, yet they are fat and happy lounging in prison instead of doing hard time. This bastard should have fried long ago. I’ve never been there but from what I’ve heard about it, I’ll take my worst day as a free man over the best day as an inmate.
  22. Unless it’s burnt beyond recognition, I think it’s difficult to make a bad pizza. I’m not too picky. I’ll eat Little Caesers, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut or Domino’s with no problem. Hell I even like the little red box pizzas (Totinos?) that you can usually find on sale for a little over a buck a pizza. There are a couple of local places in the Rockford area that are good too. We went to Put-In-Bay, OH one time a few years ago and had some amazing pizza. Haven’t been back since.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) I know of someone even worse than this. He makes about 98,000$ a year, and has a kid with the girl he lives with. They're not married because she's on welfare. So, on top of his 98k a year, they receive full welfare benefits for her and the child, which basically equates to free food for them (among other free services). If he was to marry her, she'd lose those benefits. And there are a LOT of people that do this...by the way. My wife and I have joked about that before. We had kids before we got married and got a some big tax returns for a couple of years because neither one of us was making much money. Then we got married and now I make about 3 times what she does. So if we got divorced and she claimed the kids, we’d get a big tax return and she could get all sorts of assistance. But we’ve never done it because we have morals.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) I knew people making 50-60K who lost there jobs at had zero motivation. In fact, the vast majority that lost their job in the recession, could have easily found other jobs, but opted out of it to sit around. Those were people with degrees who were qualified. They were "looking" if you mean, waiting around for a check hoping for a dream job to show up. Turned down other jobs which were comparable to what they had because it wasn't what they really really wanted and the cost/benefit of taking a job in their current spot vs. the government incentive wasn't that bad. I'd roughly say there were 20+ people I knew that did this at one point in time or another (some being good friends vs. just acquaintances / people within my work network). It sounds like those were at least temporary situations. A couple of the people I know have literally made it a lifestyle. One hasn’t had a job in the 10 plus years I’ve known him and another has never worked a day in her entire life.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 05:39 AM) I think the biggest misconception is people think everyone is looking for hand outs. People maybe looking for help, and rightfully so, and have even gotten said help with stuff he is done. I don't know anyone personally that says they are looking for "hand outs" and I think it's a generalization put out by certain people. I know a few people. They won’t come right out and say it in so many words, but they sure don’t have any motivation to stop receiving that check from the government and actually go out and look for a job to support themselves. They are perfectly content letting other people support them.
