QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) He possess all you seem to hate about the "Jim Thome" model (minus the versatility, lower K rate and ~.295 AVG of Thome in his prime) and yet he won a ring hitting cleanup for the team with the 2nd most HR in 2008. The Phillies pitched lights out in October which is why they won. Don't get me wrong, Thome could hit. We most likely would have won in 2005 if we had him instead of Carl/Frank. But championships are won with pitching and defense. And Thome add nothing to either category.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) I heard he spiked Jose Mesa's Gatorade with LSD on October 26th, 1997. I'm also curious what you think about Ryan Howard. Anything specifically?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) If beard quality is your determining factor, yes. Or possibly speed. In every other way, this is a bizarre statement not founded in any sort of fact. I was thinking more along the lines of his wife . No but seriously I hate Jim Thome as a player and I don't think its any coincidence he has never been on a team to win it all. Same goes for Bonds, Sosa, McGwire etc. Home runs don't win championships, but hey that's just my opinion. And please don't get my started on his strikeouts and ground outs to second.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) Becuase Mark Kotsay is, like, so much better! Kotsay @ 34>>>>>>>>>Thome @ 39/40 and its not even close in my opinion

This would be the best thing ever! First the Sox wouldn't get him, thank god. Then, he would waste a roster spot for the Twins considering they have Kubel. Then, when he does play, he will only be a detriment to the team!! Make it happen baby!

bearfansunited.org has already raised over $2000...evidently some people are super frustrated

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 05:42 AM) Smells like some sort of scam to me... http://boards.chicagobears.com/forums/18/1...ShowThread.aspx I don't think so, it looks like the guys are going to be on CBS news.

This is awesome: http://www.bearfansunited.org/ I guess Bears fans are pretty ticked off

I'd take Milton Bradley right now if the Cubs eat at least 75% of the contract.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) Ozzie likes carrying 7 relievers. Now they may ultimately not go that route, especially since the club has a strong rotation, on paper, but another option would be for the club to release one of its outfielders at the start of training camp. The most likely candidate for that would be Andruw Jones. I think Jones has a lot of pressure to show up and play. When has this ever been the case? Ozzie has ALWAYS stated that he would take extra bench help over an extra reliever. And Jones is your 4th outfielder. You can't just cut him.

QUOTE (monomach @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) All of the Williams hate on this board is weird. The man is an outstanding LOOGY. It's Ozzie misusing him and allowing him to face righties that makes him look like crap. Go check out his splits. You base this off of him facing 37 batters last season? No thanks. Besides, we can't waste a roster spot on a "LOOGY." Our staff dictates a 6 man pen. It will also give Ozzie extra flexibility to have another bat off the bench.

He have like 4 guys that can play CF. As for backup infielder, that is clearly Nix. This is our current roster. For the starters, I listed where they are predicted to start first and then the other positions they can play. 1. Konerko 1B 2. Beckham 2B/SS/3B 3. Ramirez SS/2B 4. Teahen 3B/2B/RF/LF 5. Pierre LF/CF 6. Rios CF/RF 7. Quentin RF/LF 8. Jones All OF 9. Kotsay All OF/1B 10. Nix 2B/SS/3B 11. Vizquel 2B/SS/3B 12. DH yet to sign 13. Pierzynski C 14. Backup C yet to sign (or Flowers, whatever they decide) Then you have the 5 starters and a bullpen of Jenks, Thornton, Putz, Linebrink, Pena, and Hudson. 14+5+6=25 Note: Williams should be no where near this team.

Thanks again for this. I love it.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Hit "My Controls" and then "Edit Avatar Settings" and you will see where to upload the new one...RALLY RIOS BABY Thanks!
-
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) Got to make 40-man space for Peavy. Makes sense. Peavy was on the 15 day DL and therefore already on the 40 man.
-
It's strange that they didn't do this before but decided to now

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) Avatar Updated!! RALLY RIOS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, how do I change my avatar?

YES! Rally Rios! We are taking this division!!

Has a KW mid-season move backfired more than Rios?
PeavyTime replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) I am convinced that it will come out that KW did not want to pick up Rios' contract and that he assumed waivers would be revoked or that Toronto would eat some of the contract. 100% disagree. The second part of you statement is just wrong, why would Toronto pick up any of the contract? That just makes no sense. As for the first part about KW not wanting to pick up his contract, well, that's just wrong too. If Kenny didn't want to pick up his contract, then he never would have claimed him. You don't block a guy from being claimed by another team (which is what you are implying I think) when they have $60 million-ish remaining unless you are cool with being "stuck" with that player. Not to mention, KW admitted trying to trade for Rios before the deadline, so you know he wanted him. -
QUOTE (RME JICO @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) I saw this little nugget in the post game wrap-up: So he is 9 out of his last 23 compared to 9 out of his first 86? That is a huge difference. Are slower players running on him lately or has he actually improved in this area? AJ has remained the same. The pitchers have improved. Remember, the catcher really has a maximum of 10% to with stolen bases.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) ...and you know what? I still don't miss Thome. This. I've been telling people here and on other boards that we are going to win this. And with a healthy Peavy, the playoffs will be damn interesting.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) I'm sure there's data on this but I have no problem, at the end of a season, with going with a 6 man rotation for 2 weeks. 5 days rest is just the equivalent of an extra offday strewn in there. 6 man? Only if we are way out of it, and we won't be all season
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) I don't know if they'd want guys to pitch on 5 days rest or not. Seems to me that you'd be less sharp than you'd be on 4 days rest. Which is why I'm asking if you'd bench Freddy so everyone else pitches on 4 days rest.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Why would they bench Freddy? If anything they bench Torres. Buehrle Floyd Danks Garcia Peavy Obviously they'd bench Torres but why does it matter when the next time we'd need a 5th starter would be?
