Minnie captivated me when he joined the Sox in 1951. I was pretty young, but old enough to know we had something special. I still use his name on various passwords.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) I would take the over on wins for most of the teams mentioned. Reds will be better this year than last, so will Brewers. My sneaky pick for worst team would probably be the Marlins, they are a good candidate for star heavy team that injuries would destroy because they have no depth. Padres though, I'm just talking myself into them being better and good enough to lose 1st overall. AJ Preller doesn't deserve nice things. Like Tatis, Jr.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) For me, it's not that I'm not interested at all. I said it's the least interested I have been in the Sox, maybe ever. I'm 26. I've watched on average probably 135 games a year (maybe more, but can't watch day games at work), since I was in high school. I'm obsesssed. But I've always liked that the Sox have tried to win every year, even though it hasn't worked. Generally they've been fairly competitive each year since 03, with a few outliers. I fully understand that the rebuild is necessary, and I'm behind it, but it sucks that it's Feb 15 and I already know the Sox aren't going to relevant at all this season. I'll still watch a bunch of games and root for the Sox to win until it's obvious that they're terrible - that shouldn't take long - but it's just different. Therefore, it's the least interested I've been in awhile. Baseball is how I spend my summers - I don't expect that to change this summer, but it's deflating knowing there is zero chance of playing in October. Trust me on this: It will get better. When you're my age (kickin 80) you should be down to 120 or so per year. Naps will prevail.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) He declined trades every time with his NTC. They were going to release him so they just paid most of the deal and took 2 fringe prospects. He's from Atlanta. Phillips f***ed the Reds over for like 1.5 years. Why did the stupid Cincy GM (at the time) give Phillips a NTC in the first place? What was he gonna do, sign with Pittsburgh? The GM fraternity must be the most overpaid group of morons in the country. -

Report: MLB Plans To Test Extra-Innings Rule Change In Lower Level Min

The bigger reason for slower, longer games is longer stretches between half innings, in order to get more advertising dollars, particularly in late innings when ratings are highest. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) I mean, it's an interesting way to tank. I'll give you that. Just don't see them rushing Engel. He still has a non-zero chance of being a special player if (and it's a big one) he could ever learn to make consistent contact. Rushing Engel? This is his 5th year of pro ball, after 3 yrs of college ball. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 05:28 PM) I wouldn't think it would be that drastic of a change. Cabrera will be the same. They lose with Eaton gone but improve with Tilson in CF and I would think a better CF is more valuable than a decrease in RF. If Tilson hits .175 or so, he won't be playing. Plus, we haven't seen him play out there yet. Hard to say he will be an improvement. I mean, we traded Duke for him, straight up. -
QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) They can't come out and say it, but they clearly want to tank for Beer or one of the high school phenoms scheduled for the 2018 draft, and having Quintana on the team doesn't help that cause. Clemson.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 12:06 AM) At least my divorce was finalized yesterday. Two years of court appearances to end a 4 year marriage. Talk about a nightmare. So relieved that I don't have to wear a lawyer hat anymore... it's gonna take a good couple weeks for me to sink into life without all of that nonsense. Just gotta send her some more money and pay some back taxes... then the only tie I'll have with her is our son. Good riddance - mistakes in choosing a mate aren't easily amended. : Living well is the best revenge. -
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Like most all prospects you mean? Whether he pans out or not is irrelevant. The point is we were trading away high upside talent even into last summer before the 180. That is frustrating. Correct. If Shields was a decent, reasonably paid pitcher, you could almost justify it. Almost. Even if Tatis, Jr. was just a so=so prospect, you could almost justify it. Almost. I don't understand how any GM anywhere could have pulled the trigger on that trade.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) After Vlad Jr., Reid Foley, Alford, Urena, Tellez their farm system drops off considerably At minimum one of those four players would have to be in a deal The three best prospects are Vlad Jr., Reid Foley and Urena, which all grade as B+ prospects Honestly, I'm not sure I see a deal getting done right now unless they wow us Robertson could be one of the better relief options at the deadline, and multiple suitors could drive up the price Yep. He is better than his 2016 stats due to those two games Robin unnecessarily put him out there and left him swinging in the wind.

2016 was tough year for Sox rookies. Coats, Smith, Davidson, Tilson all injured immediately upon seeing action. Keep Moncada away from these guys.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Here are some questions from the Keith Law chat today: Mike: I did not see Reynaldo Lopez on your list. Is this because you think he is 100% a reliever or was he not eligible? KLaw: Another one I think is absolutely a reliever. Can't start with that delivery. Olivio: Keith, looks like you let your ego get the best of you once again with that Yoan ranking. Seems he's a shoe in as a top 5 prospect. Why so low on him? KLaw: Yes, it's all my ego, not a rational examination of each player's strengths and weaknesses, which I then spelled out at length for everyone to see. It's just me. Padres Fan: Fernando Tatis Jr is someone a lot of people are including on Padres Top 10 lists, but to consider him a Top 50 prospect in all of baseball is pleasantly surprising. Is this ranking based on what he's done, or what you expect him to do in 2017? KLaw: It's based in this case entirely on scouts' feedback about him specifically and the list as a whole. I have yet to see him play. Travis: What fan base usually asks the most questions on a weekly bases? KLaw: Right now it's Atlanta, although there's been a strange uptick in White Sox questions lately. KLaw is out of his mind guy: A guy with makeup issues (and hasn't pitched above High-A) is the top SP prospect over two SPs who can throw nearly as hard, have better secondary stuff - and both have seen the bigs. Well, I'm convinced. (sarcasm detector in the red) KLaw: You lost me right there at "makeup issues." You almost certainly know nothing about Kopech's makeup except the secondhand stuff you've read. I would bet good money I know more about the subject, and obviously I'm comfortable ranking him where I did even knowing that information. And hey, feel free to omit the delivery questions I had on Reyes, since they don't support your whining. Parrot: Assuming Zack Collins can't stay behind the plate, how much of a gap exists between him and Matt Thaiss? KLaw: Large. He's got way more power. And I think he's a better hitter than I credited him for being before the draft. Johnathan: I understand your ranking of Yoan Moncada; but for those that see at 70 FV prospect ranked elsewhere, how do you explain the massive drop? Is his swing and miss issues that pronounced? Does he not still project to be a 70 FV to you? KLaw: I simply don't see a 70 Future Value as a likely enough outcome. Nils: Hi Keith, thanks for the top 100 list. From what you have seen and heard of Moncada, does he have the potential to become more than average defensively at 2B? KLaw: No. I liked him better at 3B, where the explosiveness plays up and his trouble getting down on balls is less of an issue. Matt: Just to dive a little further into Reynaldo Lopez, if you don't mind. Two years ago, when he had very little experience and, presumably, the same delivery, he ranked 75th on your list. Two years later, after a breakout season in which he dominated the minors as a starter and looked at least passable in the Majors (8.59 K/9), why has he only fallen in your eyes? KLaw: He hasn't "fallen," and that's your entire problem here. He doesn't have the delivery to start, ergo, he's not on the list. He even had a big split between starting and relief work in the majors (small samples for both, though). Mark: Your Moncada ranking is interesting as I figured he would be a shoe in for the #1 spot just based off of all the hype I've read about him and him being Minor League Player of the Year. Granted ranking him 17 isn't anything to sneeze at but from the write up it sounds like you're very concerned with his swing and miss. Obviously there have been former #1 prospects that were busts (like Delmon Young) how would you rank Moncada's bust potential? KLaw: Minor League Player of the Year doesn't affect my opinion of a player - it's just a vote. I think the swing itself leads to swing and miss and a major hole that he's going to struggle to close. Any other Busts at Number 1 besides D. Young?

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) Jeez, a lot of you guys need to just take a deep breath and let the baseball off season do it's thing. It's been very slow, we have no idea what offers Hahn *really* has on the table right now. I'm not sure, but I highly doubt that most GMs are sitting here working tooth and nail over a trade every single day of the off season. Just let things be, it's still January, only. I think the Freedom of Information Act should apply here. -

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) They were never trading Moncada and Devers together because that creates a hole they can't fill internally at 3B. I'm surprised they didn't offer Frazier with Sale to try to get Devers added. Devers. One thing that always puzzled me on the Boston trade was that if DD insisted on taking Devers off the table, why didn't Sox get them to include another third baseman like Dalbach instead of Diaz, or in addition to Diaz.
