QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) Wrigley Field is a goofy place. Ball goes up in the air, the drunks start acting like they just hit a 900 foot homer. It was that way 50-60 years ago. Never changes. Years ago, Ernie Banks would take a big swing and pop the ball up. Crowd would cheer wildly in anticipation. The the SS or CF would catch the ball, and the crowd would groan. Routine. There is a genetic strain that runs through that ball park that is scary. Those people have jobs, vote, and breed. Scary.

Great throw by Morel to end today's game vs Cubs. He played Soto verrry deep and threw a long fast ball from the grass.

When I made my Jordan Danks post, I wasn't even thinking about big brother. But, judging by stats only, because I don't see him play, it looks as if he has improved from last year, so who's to say he won't continue improving. I hear he is an excellent CF, and Sox will need a backup CF next year. Lilli is barely adequate, especially after his sleepwalking play last Tuesday night in Denver. Also, Sox must put Danks on 40 man next year or risk losing him. Lilli will never be a big league hitter -- . Of course, Young Danks will have to continue doing well and play well in ST next year, and if we trade for a CF veteran, then all of this changes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) Kuhn sounds very Jeremy Reed, with the bat anyway. Does that mean we will trade him to Yanks for Freddy Garcia?
-
From here, it sure looks as if Jordan Danks is a better player than he was a year ago. I would not be surprised if he makes Sox in 2012, as backup CF if nothing else. I think he will have an edge over Lillibridge next year.

QUOTE (gfbaseball @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 06:34 AM) Leighton Pangilinan (1B) had a great game last night for the Voyagers in the 8-5 victory. Panda went 4 for 5 with a HR, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. He's on a 6 game hit streak and has been red hot his last three games going a combined 7 for 12. He could be something special if he gets his poop in a group. He's just turned 20 a couple months ago so he's got time to figure it all out. Nothing overly exciting on the pitching side. Gehle was solid on the start going 5 innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts. Scott Snodgrass game in for two innings of relief giving up one hit, unfortunatly a HR at that. He struck out six but walked three. Couldn't help but notice his stats, too. Drafted in 09, this his third year in Rookie Ball.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) I can understand it, so none. Here's the problem with Cowley. He's trying to be the new Mariotti, so we need to do the same thing and ignore him. It's as simple as that. Speaking of Mariotti, Is anyone from Chicago going to be at his trial? Ditka, perhaps??
-
Speaking of Everett, did he get his legal problems from a few months ago behind him?
-
Wasn't Milledge a butcher in LF until we DFA'd him?

Starting out in Great Falls.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Can we splice Pierre and Rios's genes, put Pierre's brain in Rios's body? We'd end up with a Pinky and the Brain kind of situation, we can just DFA Pinky and keep the Brain, it'd be totally worth the cost. Kenny would screw it up and do the opposite, and tell us he would do it again in a minute.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) Jimmy, Longshot, ElGonzo, Kevo, Parker, Bob, etc. I've got obligation for tonight's game, but I was wondering if any of you will be going to Thursday afternoon's game and want to meet for a soda beforehand. There's any number of sports bars in the immediate area that are pretty much the same, so let me suggest The Sports Column at 1930 Blake Street (stone's throw from home plate) at around 11:30-noon. I'll be wearing the red '71-'75 cap. I'm sitting in the WellsFargo club level tonight, but on Thursday, I'll be getting a ticket at the Park, or scalping something cheap just outside, which should be easy on a weekday afternoon. I'm posted this in each of our threads to make sure we see it. Don't know how to merge, sorry. Hope to see you Thursday! Stan, I'll be looking for you.

In the post game interview the Rockies' manager, Shirley Tracy, threw RF Seth Smith under the bus of his awful throw home in 9th.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Its kind of like watching the Titanic after the first compartment is breached. Part of you is thinking, well they can come back from this. But the other part knows better. LOL

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) How is Giambi more productive than Dunn. Im sure someone would have bet a ton of money that would have never happened this year. Giambi's salary is in the neighborhood of $1MM. One year deal. And no draft pick surrended. Way to go, Kenny.
-
Two comments from Colorado media: Dunn playing RF tomorrow Rockies should sweep this week, 3 games against Sox and 3 against KC= softest part of the schedule.

The Colorado announcer informed us that Rios had a tough game last night. That was about 10-20 seconds before he botched Gonzales' triple. De Aza???

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) We both got clowned/owned with the suggestion he even consider running again. Jimenez used to get it up there in the upper 90's. He's 90-94 tonight. That's quite a drop-off. Any rumors? 1. cuticle problem 2. brain problem

So, two right handed hitters, Morel and Quenten, try to pull outside pitches and ground out to the SS. Ozzie really shook them up.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) And I now see Ubaldo has been pretty damn good this month. So I'm even more discouraged. Mark needs to be good this night. Ubaldo pitches much better on the road for some reason.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) I'm not sure Lilli was loafing. Yea he didn't bust his ass to field that blooper but it's entirely possible he just showed his lack of experience. I doubt he was expecting Tulo to go from 1st to home on it. He probably just figured he's stop at 3rd. Looked like he was playing at no doubles depth so was pretty deep to start with. Lilli was loafing. Then, in post game interview, he explains how it should look to the world, that the park is SOOOO big he has to play deep and he couldn't make the play. Ozzie can't to anything about Rios other than bench him, but they can send Lilli back to Charlotte and bring up De Aza, who at least is a real outfielder and is playing well in AAA.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) Ivan Rodriguez has only been implicated on steroid use by Jose Canseco when Canseco was in Texas. Other players in Texas during his time there were Dean Palmer, Juan Gonzalez, and Rafael Palmeiro. All you had to do was look at Pudge. He grew huge muscles overnight, and his HR production went up. He will probably pass the 3000 hit mark next year, so I won't object to his selection 7-10 yrs from now.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) Don't forget to blame the players association. Selig started drug testing in the minors long before the players union agreed to it. He isn't innocent by any stretch but he tried and it took congress to get the MLB players to agree to it. Totally agree. MLPA had opportunity to come down hard on steroid abuse, and they used it as a bargaining chip.

Kenny's professional hero is Josh McDaniels.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) I already consider him a bust. He isn't very good. Maybe that will one day change, but as of now, I see nothing that I like offensively. What would you do, Jason? Send him down to AAA, move him back to SS?
