  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) We didn't have a first round pick, so that cuts out a few million, but that doesn't excuse the rest of the draft. In fact, it should mean that they would spend more money on the tough signs, especially with how bare the system is, getting as many live bodies as we can down there should've been the biggest priority, even if it meant spending a little bit more. But we spent $14,000,000 on Dunn in 2011.
  2. Sorry, meant CF prospect.
  3. Who is the better CH prospect, Jordan Danks or Justin Greene?
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 05:52 AM) DLS actually recorded his first "hold" of the season yesterday... ERA just above 2.00. But F. Francisco was still the best reliever we traded (we barely had him for long, he came for Howry from BOS)...as part of the Everett deal. Guerrier was traded for Marte as a starter to the Pirates and eventually blossomed elsewhere. Who is DLS??
  5. Axelrod not on 40 man roster, but Nunez and Infante are.
  6. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Cubs spent $12 million.............. What did we spend?
  7. Chris Ianetta from Rockies prob available.

    Humber

Last year, Justin Hammel of Rockies had a 'tired arm'. He was useless for last 30 days or so of 2010. This year his arm is still strong. Not the best pitcher in the world, but his arm is still strong. Most likely, he built up his endurance through pitching a lot of innings.
  9. If Sox light up Ubaldo, the Cleveland papers will be on a witch hunt. Of course, if he wins, then the opposite... Sox in trouble if they start swinging at first pitch.
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) If there's not going to be a strict slotting system then there needs to at least be a luxury tax of some sort imposed on teams who spend, spend, spend on amateur players both in the Rule-4 and internationally. I don't know how such a system would work, but a team like the Red Sox should be forced to play by the same rules. If there is no max slot per round or whatever, there should at least be a max total budget allowed for all the amateur signings combined, and the system should go based on record. For example, you finish 25-30th in the league the previous season and you get to spend up to the max, but if you finish with a top-5 record in baseball then you get the tiniest budget possible. And any team that goes over pays dollar-for-dollar to the rest of the league. Or maybe do something similar with picks instead of money. Please explain how you would get this past the Players Association.
  11. QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) What about giving Sale a tryout at starting with 1 or 2 spot starts in September? Too logical.
  12. Good article in this week's Sports Illustrated on Toronto's GM Alex Anthopoulos (age 34). He got rid of expensive contracts for a slew of young players, 2011 draft choices, and Jose Bautista. Too late to help Kenny.
  13. I hope I am not jinxing our boys, but if we were ever primed for a sweep, this is it. KC is 3-7 in last 10, losing four straight. Sox are playing as well as they have all season.
  14. Ozzie should be held accountable and fired for cause. Fruit of the tree.
  15. When a team quits, who sees it first? The players or the fans?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Greg Walker is to young hitters as Dusty Baker is to young pitchers Good psot. Dusty Baker/Billy Martin.
  17. Rios wouldn't. Dunn wouldn't. Peavy wouldn't. Ozzie wouldn't. Kenny......noi sure.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) Rios will take over at 3b then. Funny!
  19. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) AJ would be picked up on waivers by somebody, IMO So would Thornton and CQ You either keep em if they're claimed, or try to get value and let em go. AJ has no trade clause. Does that include waivers?
  20. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Wait we just lost the DH Improvement
  21. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) I missed where anyone said it was a big deal. Okay, it's not a big deal. But, Smith is one of our better 2011 signings, he hit very well at Bristol, others on this board (including me) thought he should be promoted, and he gets sent down in the food chain to G Falls. I was hoping one of our posters had some insight on the move.
