  1. Harrell still doesn't show on roster of either Astros or their AAA team.
  2. Have our minor league experts given any thought to next fall's 40 man, barring any unforeseen trades? Seems like neither Nunez nor Carter will survive. Not sure who else has to be protected.
  3. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 01:17 AM) He was a disappointment, but he also had 76 XBH's. Adam Dunn is on pace for 77 hits...total. Richie Sexson, Troy Glaus, Pat Burrell in his top 5 comps at Baseball Reference. Washouts by 32. Dunn has them beat by a year. Belle had a bad start, but so did Frank. Albert improved in second half, exercised his option, and Baltimore took him off our hands.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) Mike Hampton Hampton is right up there. He was a great pinch runner, though. When he signed, he had the obligatory press conference, and he said he signed, not because of the money, but because of the great school system in Colorado.
  5. Rockies would love to have a starter like Jackson. They have a couple of prospects who have put up big numbers in lower minors. Of course, their recent injuries have helped put them out of contention. I would like to see what kind of action Jackson would bring.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 08:43 AM) Yes, 11 teams with worse records clearly indicates we are one of the worst two Several teams with worse records are playing better baseball now. Oakland, KC, Minny, Marlins, Pads.
  7. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) I don't think the White Sox are bad enough to fall out of the divisional race. If someone gets hot (Cleveland or Detroit), sure the Sox could be 8 games out quickly, but I don't expect much to change with the current division - the Sox will hang around, play at or about .500 ball, and stay about 3-6 games back. Because of their team speed and ability to hit with RISP?
  8. Wonder what the true story is.... Clearing roster space at Charlotte? Clearing space on the 40 man? Maybe Harrell said something to his Mgr that got him in trouble?
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) And sad. Two picks after we took Mitchell. ...........And, he's only 19.
  10. Williams Jr. still starting for B'ham.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) The opposite. Instead of making Aaron Poreda and Sale starters and projecting unrealistic hopes on them, I'd prefer to believe in someone who has multiple pitches....can throw his offspeed stuff in the 70's with his fastball at 93-94 and also is learning how to mix in the screwball. A White Sox lefty who throws the screwball. Reminds me of Jack Harshman in the '50's.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 04:06 AM) He's a lot better than Arnie Munoz, that much is for certain. I remember that one start he made for us. ozzie wouldn't take him out, then we came back, scored some runs, and made it close. I think he also had a cup of coffee with Mets.
  13. Sox are probably one of the two worst teams in majors right now. They are bad, they are slow, they don't hustle.....
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) The Barons now have three guys in the starting lineup that are the sons of former major leaguers. 1. Williams 2 3.
  15. It's tough not to be negative about this team. Early in the season many posters thought this was a talented but underachieving team. It is not a talented team; it is a bad, boring, slow team. At tne beginning of the season, when many thought the team was talented, the weakest part of the team was the bullpen. They blew a few early games. Now, it is the strongest part of the team, but the position players are so bad, nothing will help. Aside from Konerko, who is a tremendous player, the position players are terrible. AJ is okay; we have a decent though average SS. Quentin is a servicable outfielder who could make some teams as a 4th outfielder. That's it. Two starters, Rios and Dunn, could not make any other team. Pierre, who at least hustles, maybe, maybe could make a couple of teams. I don't klnow who. Maybe Beckham could make a team or three on potential and defense. Everyone else -- Castro, Morel, Lillibridge, Omar, Teahen, would be cut. That includes Rios and Dunn. None of those guys deserve to wear a big league uniform. Morel, he has potential. Omar, he has had a great career, but he would not be on any other active roster. It is not surprising that KC outplayed the White Sox.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) The most pissed I was ever as a Sox fan was when we lowballed Robin Ventura after the White Flag trade. I even wrote a letter to the team. Trying to remember.... Do you have details?
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Bruce Chen has been on 10 different teams. He was possibly the top pitching prospect in minors when he came up through the Atlanta system.
  18. Dunn should be scrapped until Sep. Combined with Lillibridge that is not exactly Murderer's Row. Tough to win with that lineup.
  19. When we made that trade -- Rowand for Thome -- I cringed like I do when ever Kenny does anything. Philly needed to dump Thome, because they had Ryan Howard and his minimum contract waiting in the wings. Thome had a big contract and clearly was not going to play ahead of Howard. The Philly GM needed someone to step up and do him a favor and take Thome off his hands. Kenny appears and gives up his CF in the process. What a nice guy, Kenny, to help Philly GM like that. Nothing against Thome, but we could have gotten him a lot cheaper/
  20. Nationals promoted Bryce Harper to AA.
  21. Interleague play is ova. Back to normal sked with Sox facing lefty tonight. Will Ozzie change in second half? In other words, will he play Dunn at DH as if the first half made no impression on him?
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) That's not a realistic alternative. Sure it is. He's actually getting worse. He was not this bad in April. Something is wrong with him. People get shut down all the time. He's not doing anybody any good. He'll still get paid.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) That's because there are a ton of seats in the lower deck that are obstructed view. Even if you can see most of the field, the people can't see the ball in the air. Wrong.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) Well, and this is even when he's hitting...he offers nothing defensively and has no speed whatsoever. So yeah, .168 and a 43%+ k-rate puts him right in the discussion. I think they should shut him down for the rest of the season. See what happens in ST. Meanwhile, bring up Tank.
