  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) That's exactly what I thought. It's going to be a sickening offseason with Sox fans being asked to believe Peavy and Dunn will magically be great again and Rios will work so hard in the offseason. Wait til next decade.
  2. Kenny is already looking for a way to give up next year's number 1 draft pick
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) I'm tipping my cap to the Tigers. I still believe the Sox are more talented but they smelled blood and took control of the division. Still praying/wishing/hoping for a September collapse, of course, but not counting on it. More talented? Because of Rios and Dunn? Put those two guys on the Tigers and see how well they would do.
  4. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 05:50 AM) I can't imagine the Indians claiming Thome, they know their fans abhor him. Actually I'd bet money on it, no chance it happens. Why do Cleveland fans hate Thome? Because he used free agency and signed with Phillies??
  5. Greene, Danks, Kuhn ???
  6. I don't have the stats to back this up -- maybe one of you does -- but it seems to me Thornton had a lot of trouble when he was in closers role but was much more effective in his setup role. If so, the solution seems simple -- use him as a setup guy. He should be valuable at least thru next year.
  7. Kev Smith reborn at Great Falls.
  8. Not sure where this post should go, but I was reading another blogger's analysis of top draft results, and the D-Backs were at top, partly because they had two of the top 7 picks, both pitchers that signed. They listed five top rated pitching prospects in their system, one of which was David Holmberg. Way to go, Kenny. You da man.
  9. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 08:26 AM) When your big league team lost yet another frustrating game, and your entire farm system had losing days, you can't really be optimistic about the future. Next year will be better. K Williams will be a Birmingham, Tyler Williams will be at Kanny.
  10. Who negotiated Dunn's contract, the richest, longest DH contract of all time, Kenny or Hahn?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Pretty ironic that the 2005 World Series contestants might be the two worst organizations in baseball right now with their long term outlook. Astros have a pretty good farm sysstem.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Seems to me that I'd call up the minor leaguer with the best chance of helping in the playoffs since he'll be playoff eligible if he stays on the roster through the end of August. Josh Kinney is definitely not that guy. My guess is he won't be on the roster come August 31st. Hopefully Viciedo can get healthy soon, because this would be a great way to make him playoff eligible and allow us a little more roster flexibility come playoff time. Playoffs?? PLAYOFFS????
  13. Josh Kinney has solid numbers this year for Charlotte. Why not bring him up. Granted he is 32 and therefore not an ideal prospect for long term, but he has done well all year and is an experienced guy.
  14. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) Vin Scully is great at what he does, but I about fall asleep watching Dodger's games cause his broadcasts are so boring. What are you drinking and what pills are you ingesting during the games? It's not the announcer that makes the game interesting. If that's all it takes, then they would hire someone like Dennis Miller to do the broadcasts. Or has that been done already?
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) Beckham was a line drive machine when he came up. Walker deserves blame in this, but there were questions about whether his swing mechanics would work at the big league level. I don't trust anyone currently in the White Sox organization to recognize a good hitter. Off the top of my head the best hitters acquired since Williams became GM were 1. Thome, 2. Dye, 3. Quentin. Not exactly stellar. You'r right, Beckham was a line drive machine, or at least I remember him being a lot better hitter then than now. But even in his rookie year, Mark Gonzalez of the Trib talked about his loopy swing and that pitchers would quickly figure out how to get him out. He did this in his Mailbag columns. Geez, he might be a better hitting coach than Walker.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) I heard Hawk a week or so ago say on the air this was the most frustrating sox team he's ever covered. Compared to announcers on all the other teams, he's like Howard Cosell. You won't hear a peep of negativity from the Royals announcers. Most announcers are total shills. You may hate Hawk but he's OK. Vin Scully of Dodgers is the exception. He is secure enough that no one tells him what to say. He's the best.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) It'd certainly be nice since he brings nothing to the bench, but he'd have to accept a demotion... I think. Where are our capologists? Dunn's service time prevents Sox from sending him to minors.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) We didn't have a first round pick, so that cuts out a few million, but that doesn't excuse the rest of the draft. In fact, it should mean that they would spend more money on the tough signs, especially with how bare the system is, getting as many live bodies as we can down there should've been the biggest priority, even if it meant spending a little bit more. But we spent $14,000,000 on Dunn in 2011.
  19. Sorry, meant CF prospect.
  20. Who is the better CH prospect, Jordan Danks or Justin Greene?
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 05:52 AM) DLS actually recorded his first "hold" of the season yesterday... ERA just above 2.00. But F. Francisco was still the best reliever we traded (we barely had him for long, he came for Howry from BOS)...as part of the Everett deal. Guerrier was traded for Marte as a starter to the Pirates and eventually blossomed elsewhere. Who is DLS??
  22. Axelrod not on 40 man roster, but Nunez and Infante are.
  23. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Cubs spent $12 million.............. What did we spend?
  24. Chris Ianetta from Rockies prob available.
