  1. Minnie Minoso would have caught that ball in left. I don't mean the Minnie of 1951....
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) And IIRC the Sox offer was for 4 years $48 million. If that isn't right, it isn't too far off. I don't remember Sox offering Mags that kind of contract after 2004. Could be wrong. But if we did, then we could have restructured the offer to comply with the rule that would have given us the draft picks, which was my original point. I agree that Boros' tactics stunk. When he did the European secret medical society trick, I didn't mind letting Mags go, I just wanted the draft picks, and Kenny was not able to pull it off.
  3. At least I know for sure that Morel has a 3B arm.
  4. Another big game for Marrero. He's been in the org for a long time and not on the 40 man. Some team will claim him if we don't move him up.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) If by "outmaneuver" you mean "Not offer Maggs a contract that there was a risk he would take and we'd have him and his knees instead of JD in the OF for 2005" Mags made it known he wanted out of Chicago and he wanted to try the free agent process. With Boros as his agent. I'm sure Boros convinced him to do this. All Kenny had to was offer Mags a contract for 80% of previous year's salary; then, if Mags wanted to go the free agent route, which he did want, the Sox get two draft picks. Not a bad deal. So Boros took Maggs to Europe, hid him from the Sox, and called the bluff. Kenny blinked by not offering anything. Then Mags' price went up, because whichever team got him, they did not owe the White Sox squat. Boros won. Mags won. Kenny lost. Yes, I mean he was out-maneuvered. What was Mags making then? $10MM? If so, the risk would have been $8MM. What did we risk with Peavy? Rios? Undunn? A heckava lot more.
  6. i have commented before on my thoughts about Kenny giving up a number one pick for Dunn. Beyond stupid. Then I remember. when Mags left, his agent out maneuvered Kenny so that we did not get a draft pick from Tigers. Or was it two picks?
  7. I've seen players quit before, but can't think of managers quitting. Has Ozzie gone that far?
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) Brutal AB by Alexei. I still am speechless about Dunn's base running before. Someone on the board thinks Dunn is HOF material.
  9. There's a song about him. "He came unDunn."
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ May 26, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) Same thing we did to BA after his brutal first half, just kept benching him for Mackowiak because the memory of his bad first half endured. I still wonder what could have been if he would have gotten consistent at bats in that delicate time early in his career. Anyways, learn your lesson! Leave the kid there. Right now, there's no place for DV. Sorry, I'm willing to put up with 150 games of Dunn struggling because I know it's just not going to last. It literally never happens like this. He's a few career average seasons away from HOF consideration. I know he'll turn it around, it just sucks that it's taking so long. I don't mind giving him more days off, but giving up is not the way to go. He's a guy that would actually benefit from a simulated game. It would be great if he could see some game type pitches without pressure. Let him pound some full speed pitching in practice so he remembers how to do it, you know. Dunn? HOF consideration? Surely you jest.
  11. Wes Whisler??? KW, Jr is back. Wore the collar, left lots of runners on base.
  12. Unlike our government, baseball teams cannot print money. At least most of them. As long as salaries are published, guys like us are going to comment.
  13. Maybe Morel wil play tomorrow; DM 0 for 3.
  14. Anyone remember why Cincy let Hamilton go? Can't remember the details.
  15. SoxTalk favorite Dan Hudson had another strong game Sunday. 8 Innings, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K's; now 5-5.
  16. The boys played well today; all except Sale.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 22, 2011 -> 12:59 AM) I wonder if the Rocks would sell low on Ian Stewart. Yes, but Stewart is a head case. Massive uppercut swing, has to pull everything. Needs a brain transplant. Rockettes would like to dump his contract and clear up a 40 man spot.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) It's amazing Brent L. has as many home runs as Dunn. That is incomprehensible. Dunn should be really embarrassed that he's been this bad. .....And, we didn't give up a #1 draft pick for BL.
  19. When we get close to the trading deadline, GM's from all over will be lining up to trade with us, becasue they know they can get the best of Kenny.
  20. Kuhn in nice spot -- he goes 2 for 5 -- little impact on BA. Whisler? Terrible outing 3 BB, no outs, ERA in stratosphere.
  21. Former Sox Aaron Miles playing a lot of 2B for LA. Hitting close to .300. We traded him for Juan Uribe, now they are teammates for Dodgers.
  22. Old Aches and Pains. I saw him pinch hit a few times when I was a kid.
  23. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) Woah. Not a lot of us remember Bob Rush although I had totally forgotten too that he pitched for the Sox. Bob Rush had 13 years in the show 1948-1960. 127-153, ERA of 3.65. He won 17 games in 1952, as I remember for a very bad Cubbie team. He finished his career with Sox in 1960, pitching 9 games, 14 innings, no W/L record. Sox were lousy, too, until 1951. That's when the Go-Go Sox started. I remember Rush well, trying to get an autograph as he drove away. He was one of Jack Brickhouse's favorites.
  24. Wow, some great names. I had forgotten that Bob Rush went to the South Side. He was a pretty good pitcher for some really bad Cub teams in the 50's. Al Worthington came over from the Giants I believe. Thanks.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Quentin isn't a free agent. Buehrle and Jackson are likely to be Type B free agents, and odds are very good that the Sox will offer arbitration to both of them. Disagree. If we offer arbitration, they will prob accept and then we are stuck with the salaries. Esp MB.
