  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) On the open market, Danks is undoubtedly worth more. Does anyone really believe that JR will give a $100 million dollar contract to a non-superstar pitcher for five years or more? Let's say we're talking a contract somewhere in the vicinity of the Braun deal that was recently announced. Barring some type of incredible 2005/2006 run, I just don't see the cost/benefit analysis on that one ending up in favor of Danks sticking around with the Sox. He just happens to be the most important trade chip in any rebuilding effort. Hopefully they don't go that direction, and there's certainly logic to retaining Danks if Buehrle is actually planning to leave the Sox or retire. It always comes back to Peavy. If he's healthy enough, then you have three starters (Floyd/Danks/Peavy) and theoretically Sale. But to rebuild an entire rotation around Floyd and Sale, that's a huge non-starter in terms of "patching" on the go or "reloading" and finally points to rebuilding. (That is, unless there's a big offset in insurance for Peavy not pitching for the major league team for the remainder of his contract.) If Dunn is worth $60mm, then Danks is worth something in the neighborhood of our national debt.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) I saw the game. And he was definitely unlucky. But you know better than anybody how fed up I am of this dude. KW took a risk. I'll give him credit for that. But the return has not been worth it. I don't know how you can give KW "credit" for taking a risk. What he did was to take a huge problem off the hands of Toronto. Similar to what he did for San Diego.
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) It was interesting reading what their fans said after the post season. Mauer contract was a waste of money. Those were the big 3. Twinkie fans did not like the Mauer signing??
  4. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) but isnt that more on the coaches like cora, etc? Rios is a mediocre CF. All our outfielders are mediocre at best. They're going to have trouble with tough chances.
  5. Wish we had a center fielder in high minors.
  6. Speaking of the Tigers, I wonder if Maggs is about to be in the washed up category?? I saw him in one game this year -- didn't seem to be moving well. Gotta be in his late 30's by now. Pretty good career. 2000+ hits, etc.
  7. Martinez, Kuhn seem to be having the most success so far. Move 'em up. We might have a 'Youth Movement' in a couple of months.
  8. Don't think the Sox will offer arbitration to JP after this season.
  9. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 10:53 AM) They're all way overpaid. I should have put Eddie in that same group. Same answer.
  10. ...and, another tough game for Mitchell.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) The name Hector Santiago is becoming interesting. LHP who was a reliever last year, he got an extended look in ST this year... now he's been converted to a starter. Line so far over two starts: 9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 18 K. Also his GO/AO is 2.00. Three straight (parts of..) seasons at Winston Salem. Time to move him up.
  12. What do Rios, Peavy, and Dunn have in common?
  13. Anyone know how long Juan Pierre is under contract with Sox?
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) Stefan Gartrell was outrighted to Charlotte, dropping him from the 40-man, which is now at 37. Someone is bound to pick him up.
  15. oldsox replied to danman31's topic in FutureSox Board
I'm just not feeling Mitchell will be anything. Hope I'm wrong, but it's still going to take a couple years to find out. I don't think it'll take that long.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) For my money, Humber has been everything we could've asked of him. Humber one of Kenny's better moves?
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) No kidding. I wish he were a one year acquisition for us. When does his contract expire?
  18. oldsox replied to danman31's topic in FutureSox Board
Could he have caught those two fly balls dropped by JP?
  19. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) Ozzie seriously, this is as bad as running Billy Koch out there when everyone in the US knew he had no gas left in the tank... Correct. But before we ran Koch out there, we gave him a new contract for $12mm/2 years and letting Foulke go. Way to go Eddie.
  20. Can Teahan play left?
  21. Ely just brought up by Dodgers.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 07:12 AM) I can only imagine the Soxtalk meltdown if that happened in our system. That was a great article. Thanks. But, I don't understand what you mean about a meltdown.
  23. The Tampa announcer called Thornton a one trick pony..
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Bullcrap. Even after the two errors, he still had a two-run lead. You can't allow a single and a three-run homer at that point if you're a closer. There's plenty of defensive blame to go around, but Matt still takes his share. It gives Bobby Jenks something to smile about.
  25. Sox are responsible for his entire contract, right??
