  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) I'd argue the board is pretty liberal...do agree there are a handful of mods that fit the bill you are describing, myself included. I think liberal posters post in here more, but the board leans conservative.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) It's just the White Sox were sooo aggressive with him. Any other team probably doubles him up at AA or gives him a full year at AAA. That he hasn't fallen on his face at any level is encouraging that he improves. I don't think they were aggressive with him at all.
  3. Recommended games for PSVR: Thumper RIGS: Mechanized Combat League Until Dawn: Rush of Blood Gonna try Rez Infinite and Fruit Ninja soon, as I've heard those are also must owns.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) As someone who is in the business and does play by play (and is also a White Sox fan / historian) I can certainly appreciate Hawk's passion and love for the team. However its clear at 75 he is no longer sharp, certainly not what he was even 10 years ago. That's not his fault, its the human condition. However Hawk's ego I think refuses to understand that time waits for no one. He needs to call it a well deserved day, appreciate what he's done for the franchise and step aside gracefully. Over and above the diminished skills, there's the long periods of silence when things are going bad (even though the game is still going on), the uneasy relationships with a number (not just Stone) of his broadcast partners over the years (let's not forget why Paciorek left), the haranguing of umpires (certainly deserved at times but very unprofessional. You can get the point across about bad calls, bad umpires without being petty and vindictive) Hawk can't or won't recognize these shortcoming. He won't even try to adjust and correct them. It comes down to ego and he's got a big one. And to be fair there are very few folks in the business who don't have some ego, that's one of the reasons they got into it in the first place. Bottom line though is that for good or bad, like him or not, as long as JR owns the team and as long as he wants to work, he'll have a job. I just hope that I've got the good sense to know when its my time, to face it honestly and admit I simply don't have it anymore on the level that I work. Mark Coming from a man in the industry, this is the best post in this thread so far.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) A lot of differing opinions on Adams it seems. Of all the prospects, I'm most interested in seeing where Adams falls on the new Future Sox rankings.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) Well, that goes back to my point of in my head cashman is willing to use Torres in a deal, but when Torres is added wants it to be in a situation where he is offering a talent so much more coveted than what other teams are offered he does not need to offer as much on the backend. Compare that with if Cashman is bidding Torres vs a Meadows, well, then they need to be competitive on the backend. But if Torres is dropped in an offer, Hahn isn't goint to respond "uh he's only half of 1/2 season of chapman therefore goodbye" Would you accept a smaller package built around Torres or a larger package around Meadows?
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) No, it isn't how it works. Torres was sold to yanks after a rough first half, he then recovered for a nice second half while being incredibly young, then tore up AFL. Has always had good discipline and then showed off the pop. Torres is a top 5 position prospect now. Still, if Hahn is asking for a deal similar to the Sale deal it'd look like Torres Rutherford Andujar Tate and that could be scaring Cashman off.
  8. If half these guys hit, it will be strange as four are pitchers.
  9. Now that Rosenthal is tweeting, watch it happen tonight. Always believe the Twitterverse. Always.
  10. Lmao at people in here taking shots at Vin Scully.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) More insight gathered there than in playing "Sox Math" every single game with Benetti. How dare he engage the audience at home and encourage interaction!
  12. Hawk is good for only one part of the broadcast now - emotional cues. That's it. His insight is restricted to Yaz, Catfish Hunter and Buehrle. He gets angry in the booth at every slight - big, small or imagined. He relies on catch phrases in lieu of analysis (that's a Kansas City special!) and tries to suppress Stone constantly. When the Sox are good, it's great to have Hawk for emotion. It's the one thing Benetti lacks. I'm much more inclined to believe that Jason, as he gets more comfortable, will begin to provide emotion than I am that Hawk will give a single piece of insight regarding the future team that we haven't heard before.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Good god. Pipe dream: break the bank for Machado. Abreu is the elder statesman.
  14. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) Isn't that what Moncada is? Having 2 is better, though. Best case scenario is the Pirates relent and ship off Meadows for and, Sox draft Seth Beer. That gives you Anderson, Moncada, Meadows, Beer and Collins.
  15. C : A.J. Pierzynski 1B: Paul Konerko 2B: Tadahito Iguchi SS: Alexei Ramirez 3B: Joe Crede LF: Scott Podsednik CF: Adam Eaton RF: Jermaine Dye DH: Jose Abreu Lineup honorable mentions: Frank Thomas, Carlos Quentin, Kevin Youkilis, Jim Thome Bench: INF - Tyler Saladino INF - Juan Uribe C - Ramon Castro OF -Alejandro De Aza SP - Mark Buehrle SP - Jose Quintana SP - Chris Sale SP - Jake Peavy SP - Jose Contreras SP honorable mentions: Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Hector Santiago, Philip Humber for a game LR - Dan Jennings MR - J.J. Putz MR - Sergio Santos MR - Octavio Dotel SU - Matt Thornton SU - Nate Jones CL - Bobby Jenks Sine explainers on the more interesting choices. Abreu over Frank because Abreu was the first professional athlete I ever interviewed and Frank's prime/pre-injury days were when I was very young. Dan Jennings and Octavio Dotel because those two guys were always ready to throw in any situation and willing to go long stints if needed. Sergio because I wished him good luck by the bullpen before his first game and he was beaming at the fact that someone knew his name.
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 2, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) Greg? Brett? ANYONE??? Something something Benghazi something something emails.
  17. I think it'll be like the Frazier deal. We'll hear some weird thing like a prospect is getting traded then suddenly boom, Q is dealt.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) Not exactly. Two choices. The other's name was Clinton. Bernie would have been fine not Hillary Nah. Got played. You especially.
  19. Why in the world would we even entertain trading Rodon before 2019?
  20. QUOTE (brett05 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) Right now, staying on topic with the rockettes. Thanks. You were mad about people getting paid to not work. It seems entirely relevant to the discussion.
  21. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/dona...233065?cmpid=sf Trump surrogates are claiming the sanctions are really against them. Dear lord America, you got played.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) Yes? (Would Robertson's total salary or 1/2 salary count against their luxury tax value? That might be important to know. Hell, they could rig it so the White Sox pay his entire 2018 salary and the Yankees pay his 2017 salary). If it's only Robertson's half salary, it would be a great get for the Yankees.
  23. With Torres about to be in MLB's Top 3, this is the closest deal in value to Sale. Quintana for Gleyber Torres (Moncada), Blake Rutherford (Kopech), Miguel Andujar (Basabe) and Nolan Martinez (Diaz). I imagine Yankees say no, so you'd have to sweeten it with Robertson, while eating half his salary. Would 4 seasons of Quintana and 2 half-priced seasons of Robertson equal Sale?
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) If I only do number 8 is that bad Extremely.
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) First time I've seen names from the Yanks in talks for Q. https://elitesportsny.com/2016/12/30/despit...must-stick-plan Interesting.
