QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) Courtney Hawkins is playing like a man possessed lately. 4th multi hit game in his last 5 games. Hopefully it's a trend.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 05:05 PM) Sale, Anderson, Rodon, Fulmer, Collins, Burdi should be a decent run though. Man, once the slotting system got implemented we've become way better at this whole drafting thing.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) 1) I still think we win in 2012 2) With a ring, I don't think Gar goes on his full-stupid streak of dumping players for nothing
  8. If Rose had actually hit his prime, we've probably got a ring and Deng, Korver, and Noah are still around.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Instead of bringing up Davidson, why don't they actually give Coats a look, since he's already on the roster? He's likely to hit much better than Davidson would, plus Coats can actually play the outfield. Right, I said Davidson over Garcia.
  10. He also could just be focusing on being more of a pitcher and not a thrower. He also just may be building up more strength over the course of the year vs. short HS season

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) Would be smart to give us another guy who can play 3B/1B on the roster. We can start Saladino in the field more and start DHing Frazier, Abreu, and Lawrie sometimes then other games start Davidson at DH Exactly my thought process.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) He isn't. Taj/Portis give you much greater flexibility than Mirotic/Portis. Mirotic can certainly not be on floor same time as McDermott. Niko is one of the biggest disappointments as a bull for me since Jay Williams. Niko's first season: Awesome! Niko's second season: Disappointment Can we try and see what he is now that he'll likely be the 2nd or 3rd option on offense instead of the 4th or 5th?

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) I will never stop beating the "Paulo Orlando is actually not good" drum. Also, we're complaining about a trade made 8 years ago.
  14. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) agree on both counts. I do think Collins will be somewhat accelerated through the system just for the sake of getting his bat in the lineup, and that he'll wind up at DH. Just a hunch with no reasoning behind it. The point still remains though It'll be interesting with the route they go. If his bat moves him quickly, I'd imagine they'd try to keep him catching as long as possible and not give up a la Schwarber (granted, Schwarber is the most DH style player in the league)
  15. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) I know this isn't an exact science, but with Q, Sale, Eaton and even Abreu on EXTREMELY team friendly deals, this should allow them to overplay for a 4 win player. That's what the Cubs did with lester. With Collins (hopefully ready about a year, year and a half from now) and a stud OF in the mold of a Yo, Reddick, Encarnacion, whoever, you take care of 2 of the gaping holes that are impeding the Sox from being WS contenders. Players of that caliber don't come cheap, and they RARELY come young. The Sox don't have that player in their system right now, or the pieces to trade for one either. Signing one is their only option Also, expecting Collins before 2018 is extremely optimistic if we try to keep him at catcher.

Honestly beginning to wonder if we should call up Davidson and send Avi down.
  17. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) Okay. Cespedes, Bruce and Reddick are the other options, with Bruce having a team option this year. Might only be Reddick, and the A's are reportedly trying to extend him. Soooo it might only Cespedes and Encarnacion. If it is then the demand will outweigh the supply, driving their prices up. It doesn't matter who it is for me really. As long as it's not the same patchwork we've been seeing. I really like Austin Jackson--- as a guy who plays 4-5 times a week with maybe 2-3 starts and as a defensive replacement. It's a really sad state when Austin Jackson goes down and it's a HUGE blow to your team. I'd throw good money at Reddick or Cespedes.
  18. Guys, Bossard actually like was a legit draft choice though.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) It is all about the return. I just want Taj to get dealt to a winner. He'd look pretty good in OKC after Ibaka got shipped. I think he'd be happy there.
  20. What is it with posters here and moving goal posts?
  21. And just for reference, Mike Trout got 6 years/144M.
  22. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) why not? Because you'd have a 4-5 win player in the "win now" window that the team has set? They haven't been able to develop their own talent, so they have to buy it. Sale doesn't count, he wasn't developed. Anderson will probably be a good player, chances are he won't be a great player. After that, bone dry. Since they can't draft and/or develop their own players they have to buy them. And for a player as good as Encarnacion, $150ish million is the going rate. So unless you're willing to live with cheaper/older/washed up options a la Austin Jackson (who is a fine player) and more mediocrity, then you are forced to sign players to longer deals knowing you may have a few bad years at the end of them. What's "irresponsible" is continued organizational half measures Austin Jackson is four years younger than Encarnocion, who will be 34 at the beginning of this monstrous contract proposal you have. You're maybe getting one good year from that deal before it cripples your team.
  23. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) I'd offer him whatever it took for him to play for the White Sox, which is probably 5 years, 150+ million. Get him signed through the 2020 season when Sale and Co's contracts are up and live with the 1-2 years of dead weight at the end of it. Now, this will never in a billion years happen, not with Reinsdorf at the helm. Well that contract just isn't responsible

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Eddy Alvarez average is still on the incline! Got it up to .238! Batting .361 in June. NorthSideSox did a good breakdown of why he was gonna start trending up in a thread a while back. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) The 28%K rate is concerning but the fact that he is so young for that level and a switch hitter are very encouraging signs. Power is always the last tool to develop and the fact that he is over a .400 slugging is impressive considering he is at Birmingham. This is why many didn't drop him from our top 10

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 12:01 AM) Just hope he doesn't pull a Beckham.. remember how good everyone thought he was going to be... yikes Big difference is Anderson is dripping with confidence, whereas Gordon had none.
