  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) Here are my grades for this season. I'll give the team a C-minus though I wouldn't argue with D. Abreu: A-plus. He had 36 HRS, 107 RBI. Everybody likey. Beckham: D. He stunk and his tenure was blah. (Sanchez in 27 games hit .247; Semien hit .233 in 63 games; both get Incompletes). The eye test tells me Semien will be a good player. Alexei: A. He hit .273 with 74 RBI. Gillaspie: B. I wouldn't argue B-plus. He hit .282 with 57 RBI in 130 games. Viciedo: D. He hit 21 homers and only drove in 58, barely hitting .230. He's an underachiever to date. Eaton: A. We all know he was great. A. Garcia: B to B-minus. Hit .250 in 45 games. Showed a lot of guts to come back so quickly. Flowers: C. Hit .240 with 15 homers. 50 RBIs. Paulie: I'd like to give him an incomplete as a favor to my idol. If I have to give a grade I'd give him a D. Dunn: 20 home runs in 360 at bats. That's not so horrendous. I'll give him a C this year. For his Sox career a big fat D. Moises Sierra, Danks and guys like that didn't play a lot. Not a big fan of that duo. Quintana: B. 3.32 ERA is fine. Sale: A-plus. He's good. Danks: C. He was 11-11? Not bad for an 89-loss team. I realize we don't care about wins and losses of pitchers anymore. Noesi: C. 8-11 record. Carroll: C-. Was 5-10 I love everything about him except his stuff. I'll give all the relievers a D except Petricka and Putnam who get Cs. And Bella of course gets an F. I can't bring myself to mention each guy. Robin: He gets a C. The team was a couple games over .500 at a fairly late date then sucked. I wouldn't argue C-. Hahn: C. He improved the team some but the team is still lousy and not a contender. Jerry Reinsdorf: D. No sense of urgency from the big guy. That's it for now. I think we have some good players. At this time, I'm really down on our bullpen and down on Viciedo. Soxtalk posters: C. I wouldn't argue B-. Still a reluctance to start new threads with people thinking a new thread is evil for some reason. People love the catchall threads more than new threads. Not a lot of activity on the baseball board. Lot of lurkers need to start posting more. The new posters were awesome this season. Of my own posting I'd give myself a B-. I put passion into my posts even if many of you despise me. Cheers to the White Sox. ...I actually agree with these for the most part. I'd give Q a B+ or A-, Noesi a B for what was expected of him, Putnam an A, Petrick a B, no grade for Reinsdorf.
  2. Anyone know where I can see the tribute videos they played from Pods, Ozzie, Dye, Rose, Buehrle, etc.?
  3. I need to watch these later tonight.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 06:52 AM) Whats Maria like? How does she smell? Is her skin soft? Does her rear look as good in person? ? She is tall.
  5. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) I let my Sox bias show by voting for Noesi. I'm really unimpressed with what he and Cooper have accomplished in such a short amount of time. Especially for a guy that was thrown away like trash by two teams. Wait, do you mean impressed?
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 02:14 AM) When VMArt becomes mediocre you let me know because now he is so far above mediocre he'd have to go blind in one eye to get there. Or have one small wrist injury and then it snowballs because of his age. I would have figured Paulie to age better than VMart, but as has been said everything people are saying about Martinez could have been said about Konerko. In the first half of 2012, Paulie looked like he had a HoF push left in him. 500 homers at the least. Then injury. And give me a break with bringing up Fisk. He's one of the all-time great catchers and a baseball legend. He is not the standard.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 02:35 AM) Hmmm winning the division vs. slobbering over a draft pick that is likely to not help the Sox at all ever. So close. 1) He's being sarcastic. 2) We have no idea if that draft pick will help the Sox or not.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) Reading the comments on Erik Johnson made me wonder something else ... Is Felipe Paulino one of the top 20 worst acquisitions in modern team history? Is Keppinger? Off the top of my head I'd say some of the bad ones: Bobby Bonds, Dan Pasqua, Ron Blomberg, Felipe Paulino, Keppinger as well as Don Kessinger, Ron Santo. We've had some bad ones. Felipe Paulino cost a minuscule amount as a 5th starter. Not even nearly a bad acquisition. He was also completely offset by Noesi. Keppinger, yes.
  9. In the past two days I have sat 10 feet away from Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal and talked to them. Dear god.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 08:22 AM) I stay away from commentary on ESPN and other sports networks the same way I stay away from commentary on cable news networks. I tune in to see live sporting events or to catch score updates. I don't read/watch Simmons, Bayless, Kornheiser or any of the other talking heads. My only exception is Mike & Mike, but they are really much more of a light, morning show than a talking head type show. Problem is Simmons isn't a talking head. Hence why people are pissed. He's given ESPN its best two things recently, Grantland and 30 for 30.
  11. We got a protected pick, so f*** the rest and give Paulie a hell of a send off.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 02:26 AM) I hear you loud and clear, I just disagree with you. I am not demanding that the Sox trade Q, I'm stating that it's a notion that they should explore. With that particular trade, Urias and Seager for Quintana. I would argue that Urias has a higher ceiling and better stuff than Quintana. And Seager is the best all around third base prospect in the game in my opinion. He can flat out hit and projects to be a 300 hitter while he hits 25 homers and drives in a 100 RBI a season in the bigs. These just aren't any prospects, these are elite prospects that have performed at every level. Seager would be that left handed, run producer that the team is going to need in the line up going forward. And Urias would be another solid arm to put alongside Sale and Rodon, he's left handed too if that helps you. Hasn't the Cubs' rebuild taught us anything, that pitching is an overrated commodity and when someone offers you that package of prospects, you should strike. (Samardzija and Hammel for Russell, McKinney and Strailey. I think most would agree to say that the Cubs won that deal.) Trading Q would bring the Sox a lot of value back. 1) The Dodgers are more than likely not offering Urias and Seager. 2) The Cubs rebuild has taught us...Soler is good and Baez sucks and that they still have no pitching outside of Arrieta. They don't have Sale, Abreu, Q, Eaton or Garcia. 2 franchise cornerstones and three all-star level talents already at the MLB level.
  13. Just saw Paulie's farewell video. I'm trying not to cry and failing.
  14. http://espn.go.com/blog/ombudsman/post/_/i...and-suspensions lol "Simmons is awesome and our franchise player but we needed to suspend him."
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) False. "A legend" describes him succintly and perfectly. Also, "slow." But for real, love Paulie. And wite's right, if he hadn't had to battle through injuries...we might have been talking HoF.
  16. I so hoped that Paulie would get to 500. Alas, it won't happen. He won't be a Hall of Famer, just the Hall of Very Good, but he'll have his number hanging with #35 and that's just as important. Greatest first baseman in franchise history, easily. Counting Frank as DH so we can have both. Slowest man to ever run the bases, but that doesn't matter when you hit like Paulie. I really will miss the big guy and it's just now sinking in that it's the end. Thank you for being such a large part of my life Paulie, even if what you do is "just a kid's game."
  17. It'd be interesting to see what would happen to Grantland. Would other writers follow Simmons?
  18. It's like this thread is stuck on an awful repeat.
  19. Next year Davidson will hit 30 homers and Nate Jones will have 60 saves.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 08:08 AM) well according to Bernstein, it was all orchestrated by adidas and his PR, and Rose barely knows anything about it. So, thank his PR Also according to Bernstein, Derrick Rose is a poopy face and LeBron James cares more about Chicago because he is LeBron.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 07:07 AM) You knew in January that Nate Jones would be hurt all year? Why did you do this
  22. IF Alexei is traded it's one of Sanchez or Semien at SS with Micah at 2B. Then Anderson likely comes up and takes the spot. My guess is Alexei isn't traded unless it's an absolute haul.
  23. I can see Bassitt getting a few months next year and then when Rodon is ready, they'll either demote him or try to ship Danks. I'd love to see EJ bounce back and then there are three decent options with Bassitt, Johnson and Beck to hold down the fort.
  24. College football OT is the absolute worst. I'm not a fan of anything that alters the rules. Basketball and baseball got it down.
  25. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) We have a lot of money freed up. DatDudeDP is not that good anymore. He will end up with a WAR south of 2 this season. However, if we can use that as a way of getting the price down for Cueto, I'd be willing to bite that contract bullet. It reminds me of Miggy being paired with D-Train. If it brings down the price, I'm ok with it. Edit: Just saw that it was the Tigers that extended Willis. Nevermind.
