  1. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 18m Bovada odds to sign Tanaka: Yanks 3/2, Dodgers 11/4, M's 5/1, Cubs 7/1, BoSox 10/1, Dbacks 12/1, Tex 15/1, Angels15/1, ChiSox 18/1, Jays18/1 Red Sox didn't meet with him, Angels didn't meet with him, Rangers are at their ceiling. Now people are just pulling stuff out their ass.
  2. http://grantland.com/features/grantland-fa...goodells-inbox/ Roger Goodell's inbox.
  3. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) This is exactly what Hahn said it would be like in his statement. He said negotiations and anything else will be kept quiet out of respect till Mr. Tanaka makes his final decision. I think it may be a good thing we have respected their wishes. I have read that the NYY may have taken themselves out of it by all the stuff the have supposedly leaked. Who knows anymore. But just because we're quiet I wouldn't necessarily count us out. And for the record Hayes tweeted last night one source said "dOnt count the White Sox out." The Sox seem to have been the most "respectful" towards Tanaka, whatever that's worth. They said they met with him and had Merkin write a sales pitch, that's it.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) Also talks about Eaton and Abreu. Abreu is a big man.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Didn't they say last week his family doesn't speak english? I don't know if they film many Japanese movies or television shows in LA or NY. Shhhhhh, doesn't fit the narrative
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) That was nothing compared to when we thought Miguel Cabrera was coming to us only to have an hour go by and he was a Tiger. And man the proposed package we were sending to Florida was such garbage. The proposed package we were sending was (in retrospect) a world better than the Tigers. I remember it included Danks or Floyd, either of which would be better than anything the Marlins received.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) And John Garland to Houston. Astros had the press conference ready to make the announcement and...it never happened. Forget who we were getting. Taveras, Bucholz, Hirsh
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) ESPN reporting they have reached agreement on a 7 year, $215 million deal. Wow. That brings their payroll to roughly $240M this year. How the f*** are they gonna afford Tanaka?
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) What soxtalk record for posts in a thread about a free agent before he actually signs? JDA hit 56 pages before signing. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...9778&st=825 We're coming up on page 56. It's a sign.
  10. Here's my 5 finalists: Yankees - Money, NY media, the history of the franchise. White Sox - Future, chance to pair with Sale, less pressure Dodgers - Money, Kershaw, contending Cubs - Money DBacks - Silent in all this, but money. With the Dodgers wrapping up Kershaw and the Yankees being bogged down with contracts, I can actually see the White Sox pulling this off. They're the only confirmed team to have met with him face-to-face and according to Rock, it seems their budget caps at $20M/year. I can't see the Dodgers or Yankees going above that.
  11. I have Yanks as favorites followed by the Sox.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) Wasn't Nate Silver the one that said these systems typically underrate the Sox? Nah, FanGraphs wrote about how Nate Silver's projections weren't applicable to the Sox. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...ng-projections/ Except last year. Last year we were worse.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) I love anything that pushes The Show to be even better. I feel they got a little complacent the past couple years because they know 2K baseball was never going to cut in to their sales. I doubt this does anything. It'll be like NBA Jam's return, not a full fledged game.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 07:23 PM) I think Bobby is a really good person. After reading that story, I wish I could be at Soxfest just to shake his hand and let him know that we'll always be fans of his. Sounds like he has a ways to go in his return attempt, but if I'm the Sox I'd have no problem offering him resources to help with his rehab process with the understanding that he has a spot with us when he's ready. I kinda wish I could go to do the same thing.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) Outkast confirms at last 40 tour dates this summer. I can't find the tour locations and dates.
  16. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...akas_agent.html Red Sox didn't meet with Tanaka, but talked with his agent. It's a big show of respect that the Sox met him in person and just didn't talk to his agent. They even flew out to meet him. Don't under estimate the effect that can have.
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) If Sox sign Tanaka, how much does the attendance increase? 15 starts at home probably means at least 5000 extra per game, especially if he does well. If he, Sale and Quintana propel them into a pennant race, a lot more than that even. Tanaka is about as high risk/high reward as they come.
  18. If Abreu is being counted as a prospect, he's the #1 prospect in baseball.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) What's Kershaw's contract status? If he doesn't have a team friendly extension they are going to have to pony up major for him. In theory I agree with Rogers (gross to type that), but they may have to have another mega/record breaking deal with Kershaw soon if that's not already sewed up. A team can only do so many mega deals, and Kershaw is worth 1000 times more to them than Tanaka.
  20. Sign him to a minor league deal. I'd love to see him do well again.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-los-angel...00213--mlb.html A lot of the same reasons for the Angels not signing Tanaka would seem to apply to the White Sox at this point as well...both teams are at least one year away from being in a realistic position to take on a contract like that with all the other weaknesses both teams have across the board in terms of being "playoff worthy" teams. Biggest difference: The Sox don't have 3 albatross contracts and don't have to worry about extending the best player in baseball.
  22. It's worth noting that while other teams have expressed interest and all that, the Sox are the only team to have confirmed meeting with him. I find that interesting.
