  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:32 AM) Get help. Acknowledge truth.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:14 AM) Have you ever negotiated a sale or purchase of a house or a car or anything else, and received a better deal because of it? If so, I wonder how you live with those blemishes every day. Your unabashed hatred of Reinsdorf makes you post really ridiculous things. Now the guy isn't supposed to negotiate what is best for him and his company, the state should have said no, and let him go. That is not on him. But public stadiums weren't unique to JR then, and they aren't now. At least for the most part, this wasn't financed by everyone in IL. It is financed by a hotel tax which theoretically pins the cost on visitors, although it is a tax that could have been spent on a lot of other things for the greater good. But many businesses get tons of tax breaks and other incentives to operate their business in Chicago. Look what Boeing got How does their presence in Chicago help you or me? Nice try. The only ridiculous posts are ones like this one which try and mask the undeniable truth about the stadium extortion inflicted upon the state by the Sox owners. We are not talking about negotiating a sale or purchase. We are talking about blackmail in its purest form, plain and simple. That is what went down to force the state to finance the stadium construction, and you know it. And your unabashed hatred of my posts pointing out these facts doesn’t change a thing in this regard.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:42 PM) Blemish. That was a great move by them. They have a stadium and didn't pay for it. Imagine the payroll for the players if the sox were paying for the stadium as well. that's like blaming the players for the money the owners give them. You get what you can get when you can get it. Wow, talk about sugarcoating. Geesh! This post takes the cake. Well, you can spin it any way you like, but the fact remains: Blackmail = Blemish The owners taking actions that diverted even one penny of taxpayer money away from needs immensely greater than guaranteeing owner profits is an absolute black eye on the franchise’s history. The politicians may have allowed it, but they didn’t ask for it. As for “get what you can get when you can get it”, sure, why not. Next time you are at the grocery store and the cashier turns his head, grab as many items as you can hold and run out of the store without paying for them. That would be the same “great move” by you as the one you credit the owners with related to the stadium extortion.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) It somewhat pains me to do this but fair is fair: 1. He brought stability to a franchise that was reeling after the ownership of Bill Veeck part II 2. He initially spent money, a lot of it, for the time refurbishing the original Comiskey Park 3. Again a lot of money was spent the first three years of ownership bringing in players like Fisk, Luzinski, Cruz, Kemp, Paciorek and Bannister. 4. He was one of the "moderate six" owners who were totally against the labor impasse in 1981 stating publicly that it was stupid and insane and needed to be called off. 5. Be it by luck or design they won a World Series under his tenure. 6. Even though it was extortion, he was able to get a new stadium built and the Sox sooner or later were going to need one. That's just off the top of my head. Now the list of things he did to badly hurt the franchise is much easier to recall but again fair is fair. #5, for sure, serves as top of the owner’s triumphs as owner. Hands down. #1-4 reflect favorably on the early years, 81-83. Comiskey Park never looked better than during the ‘83 All-Star game, and that was due to the investment put into the park you reference in #2. #6, not so much. The “extortion” relating to the blackmailing of the State of Illinois to build the current ballpark will forever be a blemish on the franchise’s history, even long after the current owner is gone. What’s missing is probably the tenures of Thomas, Buerhle, and Konerko, three of the greatest players in Sox history whose careers either began with the Sox via being drafted by the team (Frank & Mark), or being brought over through a trade (Paulie). They put their considerable stamp in the game in a Sox uniform, and did so during the Reinsdorf era, so he gets a check in the “good things” he’s brought to the franchise during his 37 years at the helm for that as well.
  5. Defense not so sharp for the ChiSox here in the 7th.
  6. One of the last times to see/hear the legendary tandem of Hawk & Wimpy together.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) Oh aren't you awesome with your passive aggressive act. Can't wait for the next time you repeat it. I'm "looking forward to it"! If you have nothing to add, then you have nothing to add. Would be easier if you just said that rather than engaging in your repeat act of belittling posters.
  8. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) I think your comment "such as?" was taken wrongly...were you simply curious as to what the poster thought JR has done well for thre organization or were you implying he has done nothing at all? Absolutely the former.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Oh you were being positive while belittling someone for appreciating JR? My bad my bad. Do continue I didn't belittle anybody. I was responding to a point Lip made, who is one of my favorite posters on this board. He made a reference to the "good things" the owner has done for the franchise, and I'm just curious as to what he's referring to, outside of the achievements of the glorious 2005 season, to which I give the owner all his deserved acclaim in an earlier post. So nothing negative going on here. If you have anything positive to add yourself, if your thinking is in line with what maybe Lip is referring to, then by all means, add on!
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Hey Look, it's Thad. Repeating himself. Keep it positive, please, or at least follow along. We're are simply discussing the "good things" the owner has done for the franchise, as referenced by another poster. Would be better you add to that list and actually contribute to the discussion rather than settling into your own usual repeat mode of belittling posters.
  11. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Shall I state the most obvious answer or is it too obvious to even mention Of course you should - 2005! That absolutely heads off any list of the "good things" he's done for the franchise. In fact, it belongs at the head of the list of the "great things" he's done for the franchise. That's how awesome 2005 was, and it's certainly his crowning achievement to date as owner. Total gold star in his column for that season, and he deserves all of the accolades that go with the accomplishments of that year. No questions asked on that one, at all.
  12. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 10:23 PM) I'm not the biggest JR fan out there, he's done some good things for the franchise and he's done some things that leave you scratching your head and wondering how he made his money to buy the team in the first place...but even I can't take seriously some of the stuff he writes about him. Such as?
  13. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) Jose might be the best hitter in the league when nothing is on the line. He's just killing it. Wish I could see splits for batting when his team is above 500 vs below 500. Tried but couldn't find it. You had us all at "Jose might be the best hitter in the league".
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) I wonder if Carson threw 3 good starts in a row would posters still be upset about draft position. I am fairly convinced that most posters would rather be right about Fulmer being a reliever or bust than admit some good starts will go a long way towards changing their minds. I would 100% rather have Carson Fulmer be a decent 4th or 5 starter than have the 2nd over the 3rd pick or 3rd over the 4th. Carson Fulmer was a first round, top ten draft pick selected in between Andrew Benintendi and Ian Happ. I, for one, would very much like to see him develop into something far more than just a reliever. Today's performance was encouraging in that respect.
  15. Trading Melky created an opening in left that Leury slid over from center to fill. But with the emergence of Delmonico, doesn't Leury then slide right back over to center, given that his overall game is better than Engel's? Leury is no slouch defensively, but I think he proved this year that he has a MLB-caliber bat, and therefore I think he's the better option to start next year in center over Engel, at least at this point.
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) Agree. And please stop with the "more money in JR's pocket" bull. The Sox are rebuilding not to put money in the owner's pocket but to get ready to put the team in a position to compete and win in the future. They will spend money when the time is right. No doubt they will. The questions then how much money and on whom? The time to spend money was "right" in the four years preceding this clunker of a season, when we had the last solid, cost-controlled set of "core" players. Yet the amount of money the Sox spent was in line with the amount of money small market teams like Minnesota and Kansas City were expending in payroll, and it was spent across a bunch of mid-tier to scrap heap types of talent. So when you say they will "spend money when the time is right", will the spending strategy be different than the one that failed so miserably from '13-'16?
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) How many times have we heard not to slide into first? Since little league? One would presume a lot!
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) That was a bizarre attempt by Hanson. Yeah, I look at that one as someone who doesn't play the lines in our ballpark that often taking a very cautious approach racing towards those low walls in the stands.
  19. Are headfirst slides into first base part of the Sox' organizational philosophy? We seem to do quite a bit of it.
  20. Kevan Smith has been a pleasant and interesting development this season.
  21. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) Why does everyone annoint this guy as a starter. Leury Garcia is a better defensive SS, has shown improvement at the plate, and is still young. Why not give him a shot at being the starting SS? Anderson has earned nothing. Make him earn a spot. Amen, Bro! My thoughts exactly. I think we've had a nice, sneak preview of what Leury's overall game can be at the Major League level this year, and it's nothing to sneeze at.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 08:09 PM) Atrocious hands. Just not an infielder IMO Thoughts on flip flopping he and Leury? Maybe with TA's speed and arm he could be more effective in the outfield, while the Sox gain the benefit of Garcia's superior defense at the most important defensive position on the diamond.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) I would love to see the examples of fan doubt during Franks early years. "ExampleS"? Plural? Show us one example, even one, of "fan doubt during Frank's early years". It doesn't exist, at least anything representing credible analysis.
