QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) Honestly, I don't like it at all. sorry, i post a question, word it poorly and then book. Yes, I was referring to teacher names/salaries etc. I guess I understand the point of the law and the benefits behind it. But I don't see why someone in Round Rock, TX or even Toyko, Japan can view the salary of my wife in Illinois. I feel like the rule should be, anyone who is a local taxpayer to the District, can come to the District's HQ, open a book, and see salaries during normal business hours. It shouldn't be published on the web for the entire world to see.

So is it wrong for websites to post the private financial information of my wife, who's a public school teacher? It certainly makes me a bit uncomfortable. Is it wrong, that as a business, I can call experian or dun and bradstreet and buy lists of your names, addresses and phone numbers based upon certain demographics that I give them, that is based upon your credit score? For example, give me a list of everyone in Woodridge, age 35 and over, with personal credit scores of 700+.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) Obama never wanted those parts of the bill, that was all Congress. by the way, i heard this morning on CNBC that the Dow's performance under this President, is the 3rd best all time, behind FDR and Truman.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) I have to imagine knowingly dealing in stolen documents has to be a crime in Switzerland, right? So who's more guilty... the person commiting the crime or the person illegally providing docs proving the person commited a crime

I think he is referring to the fact that the Swiss guy is a "liberal" a*hole.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 14, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) But still Sqwert, and I know you are very liberal in your beliefs, you can't honestly believe that the target map in any way could be interpreted by anyone who is at all sane in a literal manner. I mean, come on. There are limits on how far one can stretch the politicising of things... from what I've read, congresswoman giffords challenger in the 2010 election, had events where participants were encouraged to shoot M16's for fun, while listening to the politican talk about the importance of taking out Giffords. Certainly taking out wasn't meant to be shooting her, but again, this rhetoric needs to be changed. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/01...from-office.php -
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) First, people are not readily displaying rifles AT Presidential events. They are somewhere in the very general vicinity, and that distinction is key. Second, the only way to deal with what you are saying is to outlaw carrying guns at any sort of public event or protest of any kind, and that is a fairly large intrusion on 2A rights. Certainly I'm not a legal scholar, but couldn't the same type of laws that prevent people from carrying weapons on airplanes or in schools be applied to political events where elected officials are present? -

i think you mis-understood my point or i mis stated it. Take those people with readily displayed rifles at the President's events recently. While the USSS certainly takes a look at them for protecting the President, I'm not naive enough to think that someone displaying a fire arm in open public, is really trying to pull off an assaniation plot on an elected official. What I'm saying, is that during their protests, they run into counter protestors and things turn ugly (say Rand Paul supporter stomping on head ugly) by keeping these guns out of the mix, will certainly save some lives amongst these people in the future. -

I'll add something to this discussion. If at the end of the day, this tragedy leads to laws prohibiting protestors or people from showing up to political events with rifles or pistols at their side while at the same time turning down the heat on some of this political flamethrowing, then we will most likely be preventing future occurances like this from ever happening again. (plus the secret service will thank you for making their lives slightly easier) On a sidenote, there was an interesting show on cable recently about "inside the secret service". It tells the story of one former agent who nearly killed a high school kid back in the 60's/70's i think, for pointing a water pistol at the president's motorcade, on a dare from his friends. He was a sharpshooter who was 1/2 second away from pulling the trigger when he realized that the gun was red, not black, which allowed him to pause for a second. -

I hate to say it, but you've gotta laugh at this email exchange between Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin about the shooting. Especially this part. "Sarah, as you know, peace is always the answer. I know you are felling the same heat, if not much more on this. I want you to know you have my support. But please look into protection for your family. An attempt on you could bring the republic down," Beck wrote. "There are nutjobs on all sides...terror is terror. I don't care if it is for Allah or your party." Seriously, an attempt on a 1/2 term former governor of Alaska, is going to bring the Republic down? -

unbelievably horrible situation. I hope this stops the imagery of "taking out" politicians and gun events in the future. someone asked her father if she had any enemies... his answer, "the entire tea party" -
illinois needs the $. No way around it. Plus we've got one of the lowest income tax rates in the country.

Vaccination-Autism Study Shown to be Fraudulent
jasonxctf replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
I was never a big shots cause autism guy. But I will tell you, that when my little girl went for her 2 month appt and the doctors said 6 shots at one time, I told them to tap the brakes and spread them out a little bit. 4 at 2 months, 2 at 3 months with the boosters that follow on the same schedule. Common sense just tells me that it doesn't seem right to inject a 2 month old, 9lb baby, with all of those things at once isn't a good thing. -

The value of education has never been clearer. The unemployment rate for people who never graduated high school is 15 percent--depression-level joblessness. For high-school grads with no college, unemployment is 10.4 percent, and for college grads it's just 4.9 percent.

NEW YORK (AP) -- People are starting to buy homes again, lifting a battered industry that is bracing for its worst sales year in more than a decade. Signed contracts to purchase homes rose in November, the fourth increase in five months. That should give the housing market a boost in the first few months of the new year because there's usually a one- to two-month lag between a sales contract and a completed deal. Economists cautioned that a major reason for the jump is that people are buying foreclosed homes, which sell at steep discounts and weigh on the broader market. Another obstacle is the sudden spike in the 30-year fixed mortgage rate, which only weeks ago had fallen a 40-year low. Still many economists expect sales to gradually rise next year as the economy adds more jobs and home prices stabilize. "Sales appear to be picking up and we expect better sales in the next several months," said Patrick Newport, a housing economist at IHS Global Insight. "A lot of that is because the job market is improving." The National Association of Realtors said Thursday its index of sales agreements for previously occupied homes increased 3.5 percent last month from a downwardly revised reading in October. Contract signings were up in the West and Northeast, but down in the South and Midwest.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) The blizzard came on Sunday. It would affect next week's numbers, not this week's numbers, no? i would think so. also, don't most people file either via phone or email? I don't think you have to go in anymore, do you?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) Its also more polluting. If you are suggesting Clean Diesel is more polluting then standard fuel cars, I'd debate that all day long. If you're saying that Clean Diesel is more polluting than alternative energy cars, then you are correct. http://www.greencar.com/articles/audi-a3-t...esel-reigns.php

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) Does that extra mileage make up for the extra 20-30 cents/gallon you have to pay for diesel fuel compared to regular unleaded? absolutely. i just did this comparison for someone the other day. Let's say 87 is $3.00 gallon. And Diesel is $3.20. My Jetta, non-TDI, would get approx 27mpg. Which means that $3.00/27= 11.11 cents/mile My Jetta, TDI, gets approx 38mpg. Which means that $3.20/38= 8.42 cents/mile I drive approx 15,000 miles per year. 15,000 miles x 2.69 cents/mile savings= $403.50/yr savings. Not to mention the $750 Tax Credit I get this year and my wife got $1,300 last year.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) I agree with both your assessments, I was just pointing out that it will be a hard task and a long road...but I'm sure we will move in that direction, that's a foregone conclusion. As you've both pointed out, we are at what appears to be at an apex when it comes to fossil fuel usage, and critical mass is being met. With many 3rd world countries emerging and beginning to use this same resource in mass quantity, the availability will drop while the demand rises...what will occur then is economics 101. I think we are moving toward alternatives, I just think it's a lonnnnnnng lonnnnnng road. In modern American society where we expect things to be instant...I think people are going to have to learn to wait again... Or ride a bike. It can be instant and it's already here. Two Words Clean Diesel (TDI) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbocharged_Direct_Injection My wife and I each have a TDI car. (She's got the Audi A3 and I've got the VW Jetta) Both have averaged between 37-40mpg since we got them. That includes driving in the winter here in Chicago (horrible mpg) and highway driving (where we get 40-42mpg consistently) Does it end fossil fuel usage? Of course not. Can it significantly slow down its usage and need. Absolutely.

yeah, illinois gop is going to lose either the 8th, 14th or 17th, being merged into others.
