  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) 3yr/24 million MAX Ditto. I love Mark in 2012 I like Mark in 2013 I think Mark's acceptable in 2014
  2. Just noticed that with Milwaukee too. Same thing holds true with St. Louis. Would they sign Buehrle as a 4th/5th started with Carpenter/Westbrook/Garcia/Lohse
  3. surprised Milwaukee isnt a destination option for Mark. - Playoff Contenders (who knows about that with Fielder) - Midwest Team - NL Central, meaning he can go home to St. Louis a few weeks a year - Nice stadium with good fan base - Blue Collar City and could maybe move up north to stay within the Chicagoland area. (Gurnee, Winnetka, Lake Forest, etc)
  4. Sox fleeced both the teams they got Danks and Floyd from. Floyd and Gio Gonzalez for Freddy Garcia Danks, Masset and Rasner for Brandon McCarthy and David Paisano
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Not quite sure how to word this, but here goes. Several people on here getting pissy about the 'character assassination' of the women in regards to the Cain Incident(s). Just wondering what you would have him (or his proxys) DO? In a strictest he said/she said circumstance, that is about all he can do. Or should he just shut up and say nothing? Or just a simple 'they are wrong, I am innocent'? While I agree that sometimes it can go to an extreme, but is not the character of the accuser as important as the character of the person being accused? If someone IS getting paid for interviews, and is in bad financial shape, people deserve to know that, as it MAY be a basis for her allegations, or to exaggerate something that did happen. If someone has accused others if 'inappropriate conduct' a few times before, is that not also important in determining the makeup of the accuser's statements? I guess i just want to know what you would have him do? I'll preface this with.. I think Herman Cain is a joke. However here's how he should have handled it, in my opinion. - Yes, nearly 2 decades ago there were allegations that I had behaved inappropriately with a few co-workers/employees of mine. - I believed then, as I do today, that I did nothing wrong and that the allegations against me were false. - We had determined, at that time as a business executive and not as a politican, that it was in our best interest to settle these matters without incurring lengthy court battles and legal costs. - Had I known that more than 20 years later, these allegations would resurfice, and that I would become a politician seeking the highest office in the land, I would have chosen to fight these false claims at that time. I'd also try to make an analogy, carefully, of someone who receives a ticket and decides to pay the fine, rather than go to court and fight it. (obviously the severaty of the claim is 1000x worse, but that's why I said carefully)
  6. http://news.yahoo.com/congressman-rush-com...?bouchon=602,il Interested to see what people's overall thoughts are on the NCAA. I was a D1 guy, for a few years and have my own feelings on them. some negative, some positive.
  7. Aj was also nominated for catcher but lost to Wieters
  8. Just announced on espn. Congrats mark!
  9. maybe the sports authority was thinking about trying to collect fees/taxes/revenue, etc from the Sox based upon Cell attendance? They made an investment in this restaurant, with the hopes that it will boost overall attendance to a level in which the White Sox have to make payments back to the State?
  10. Umpire: Okay, let’s go over the ground rules. You can’t leave first until you chug a beer. Any man scoring has to chug a beer. You have to chug a beer at the top of all odd-numbered innings. Oh, and the fourth inning is the beer inning. Chief Wiggum: Hey, we know how to play softball
  11. We've been banging this drum about the "conservative recovery" for several months, and this report shows it in very plain and stark relief. In this expansion, companies are increasing their payrolls while state, local and federal governments are trimming theirs. This trend would be much more pronounced if not for the tens of billions of dollars in stimulus funds given to states to patch up budgets. So, in September, the private sector added 137,000 jobs — decent but nothing to write home about -- while the government sector cut 34,000 jobs. Since January 2010, the private sector has added 2.556 million jobs while government has cut 503,000. In January 2010, 82.6 percent of payroll jobs were in the private sector; today, the total is 83.2 percent. Declining government spending has been, and continues to be, a contractionary economic force. So i saw this quote earlier today in an article on Yahoo. Interesting numbers.. wondering what the unemployment rate would be in the 503,000 government jobs weren't cut? According to the bls.gov website, http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t01.htm the total number of eligable workforce people are 240,071,000. I'm guessing this excludes children, retirees, prisoners, etc from the 300,000,000+ people in this country. They call this 240,071,000 number, Civilian Noninstitutional Population. They also say that the seasonally, adjusted number of unemployed people are 13,992,000. So 13,992,000/154,017,000 (civilian labor force)= 9.0847% So I'm guessing, 13,992,000-503,000 govt jobs= 13,489,000 unemployed assuming no govt job cuts. 13,489,000/154,017,000= 8.7581%. If my math is correct, govt doesnt cut these jobs over the past 18 months or so, unemployment rate is 8.8% vs 9.1%. Of course this number doesnt taken into effect these 503,000 positions, having people in them buying goods/services within the marketplace, which of course would prompt additional jobs in the private sector. So maybe 8.7% would be a better guess?
  12. unless you can somehow move Adam Dunn, and open up the DH spot, Carlos has to be gone? You've got 4OF's for 3 positions with a GM looking to cut payroll. Rios- No one would take that contract. Viciedo- Can't keep him at AAA anymore. Big investment in time moving him to the OF, so going back to 3B may be a stretch. DeAza- What, you're going to bench or AAA a guy who hit .300 in limited AB's in 2010 and .329 in 150+ AB's in 2011. He's also got speed, which this team will be lacking.
  13. So it appears that the government will be funded for 6 more weeks, in an agreement reached recently which provides additional FEMA funding, but is off-set by reducing/eliminating a Federal Loan Program, designed to help US Automakers re-tool their plants to accomodiate the increased demands for fuel efficient vehicles. I'm curious to hear people's opinions on this. My two cents... 1) I find it interesting, that the Party pushing the "off-set" of the clean car/increased fuel efficiency program, receives a lot of campaign cash from Oil and Gas Companies. There are other programs that could have been cut, but why did they choose this one? 2) Being a loan program, I'm assuming this means that temporarily funds go out the door, and hopefully they return, with some level of interest. This isn't a handout, its a government backed loan program. Assuming debts are paid in full, wouldn't this be a revenue enhancing program for the government? No matter how small? 3) Wouldn't re-tooling these plants be a boost in job creation? Why would you cut a program that can help put people to work right away and help make US automakers (who employ hundreds of thousands of workers) more competitive with their foreign competitors?
  14. does that still exist on the site, or was it taken down?
  15. 5'11 in his cleats maybe. He's got to be 5'9, tops.
  16. Currently, the Sox have had 1,791 AB's this year with players who have a batting average of .250 or below. (not incl pitchers) The equals roughly 35% of the time. 1,100 AB's with players with an avarage south of .250. (roughly 22%)

  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) One thing to note is that there are efforts to change some states, such as PA, from winner-takes-all to district-by-district votes and change others, like Nebraska, from district-by-district to winner-takes-all. The determination of who is trying to pass these measures and who they would benefit is left as an exercise to the reader. Would those be in effect before the next election? I would think they would push those off to start in 2016?
  19. Thought this would be interesting. If we look at the states where the same party has won, each and every presidential election since 1992, (so 1992, 96, 2000, 2004 and 2008) and assume the same party wins again in 2012, here are the current electoral college totals. Obama 242 (28 shy) Republican 102 (168 shy) The following 19 states have shifted over the past 5 elections. NV, MT, AZ, CO, NM, IA, MO, AR, LA, IN, OH, KY, TN, GA, FL, NC, VA, WV and NH. I think it would be a fair assumption that a few of these states, (AR, LA, KY, TN and WV) that were won with Clinton's southern strategy, are off the table. So lets add those to the Republican column. So now its 242-140. It also seems like the Obama administration is not heavily planning on winning IN again, and MT is probably off the table too. Let's throw those to the Republicans as well. Now its 242-154. At this 242-154 level, there are 94 winning combinations for Obama, 47 for the Republicans and 12 combinations that would create a tie. With the remaining states listed as undecideds, the one state, that mathematically, the Republicans must win is FL. Fun program to play with. www.270towin.com
  20. I would legalize on-line gambling in the US with a few certain rules/requirements. - Auction off 4 "licenses" to companies that are interested - Require that any/all employees associated with the on-line sites (customer service, payouts, acctg, etc) be US citizens and be employed at US corporate offices. - Create a clearing house that monitors payments in/out (think paypal) that would closely track and tax those winnings and losings to avoid fixing of sports. I would think this does the following. 1) Immediate federal government income from the auction of the licenses 2) Immediate hiring of US workers 3) Immediate purchasing of tech equipment to run/support the system 4) Move US consumer "spending" back to the states from overseas 5) Reduce/elimiate illegal bookmakers and crime associated with it 6) Long term tax revenue from tracking of winnings. (like capital gains taxes)
  21. maybe this poll wasn't for me, it'll be Obama for me, but I did vote Huntsman/Perry. I like John Huntsman, and he's the only one in a general election that I think could beat the President. But I think Perry locks it up with a southern/western state strategy.
  22. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) I sat in a Jetta and thought it felt kinda small. Similar to the Chevy Cruze. The MPG is nice but I'm kinda leary about a couple of things. First I've heard that it can be difficult to get parts for it. Second, I'd have to pay attention to where I get gas. Not all stations have diesel fuel. Last, I know nothing about diesel engines. I'm going to blow through any warranty within 2 years at best so I'll probably be doing some work on the car myself eventually. True about the gas station. I just downloaded Gas Buddy on my phone, and it solves that problem. Car comes with a 3 year warranty, i believe. I've had my Diesel for about 1 year, my wife has had hers (audi a3 diesel) for about 2. Runs perfectly.
  23. VW Jetta Diesel. http://www.vw.com/en/tdi/jetta.html Love it. 42 mpg after breaking in the motor. Plus Diesel prices in the burbs are +/- 10 cents of 87. Have a friend who's the Sales Manager at Fox Valley VW in West Chicago. PM me if interested.
  24. wow, in the 9 years i've been posting here, I never knew that. What's the limit?
