Wesley Clark Bob Kerrey

With Reid pushing for fillibuster reform (most likely down to 55 from 60) I doubt that Obama would pick Kerry for anything. He doesnt want to risk losing his seat in a special election to Scott Brown and thus taking the Democrats to down 54. I don't think the bench is horribly deep in Massachusetts right now. Susan Rice will be SOS. Book it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) Wealthy people would like to pass on generational wealth without taxation. Whether it's in the form of land or cash or stockholdings doesn't matter. couldnt agree more. No offense to the prior poster, but just because someone makes their wealth in farming, over investments, business, real estate, etc, doesnt mean that they should have special rules about inheritance.

Was thinking about switching from my cable provider (Mediacom) to them. Already have AT&T for home phone/internet. Seems like better pricing and more channels. (especially MLB Network and NBA Channel plus more HD channels) Anyone have good/bad/ugly experiences about AT&T Uverse? Anything I should know in advance of jumping in?? Thanks for any feedback!

I cant believe that I started a topic that 3+ years later is still going. I'm so proud of myself.

Sox Blogger Call: Open Discussion with Brooks Boyer
jasonxctf replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) I can only imagine that this is a reference to how long it takes to get to the ballpark and then back home after the game. For someone like me that lives 2+ hours away, that's exactly how I look at it. Sox games were always a once or twice a summer thing. I just always thought I was in the minority because I very rarely hear anyone else use that as an excuse. I'm completely shocked to hear Brooks say that this was the #1 reason people didn't come to the games. its certainly one of my biggest issues. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) Where is the proof that a minor league team builds a major league fan base? Lets call geograhpically close (within 4 hours driving) Which camp would you rather be in? MLB attendance #, next to AAA name. 8 of the top 10 teams in attendance, have a AAA team nearby. Teams with AAA ball clubs geographically close to MLB affiliate Toronto (Buffalo)-23 Philadelphia (Allentown)- 1 Boston (Rhode Island)- 8 Atlanta (Lawrenceville, GA)- 15 Baltimore (Norfolk)-20 Cleveland (Columbus)-29 Cincinnati (Louisville)-16 Detroit (Toledo)- 9 Chicago NL (Des Moines)- 10 St Louis (Memphis)- 6 Kansas City (Omaha)-25 Texas (Round Rock)- 3 Colorado (Colorado Springs)- 13 Seattle (Tacoma)-26 San Francisco (Fresno)- 4 Oakland (Sacramento)-27 New York AL (Moosic)- 2 Teams without AAA ball clubs georgraphically close to MLB affiliate Minnesota (Rochester, NY)- 12 Washington (Syracuse, NY)- 14 Chicago AL (Charlotte)-24 Tampa Bay (Durham)-30 Pittsburgh (Indianpolis)-22 Milwaukee (Nashville)- 11 Los Angeles NL (Alberquere)- 5 Miami (New Orleans)-18 Houston (Oklahoma City)-28 San Diego (Tucson)-21 New York NL (Las Vegas)-17 Arizona (Reno)-19 Los Angeles AL (Salt Lake)- 7

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) The Sox like having their minor league affiliates all close to each other, that way they can move players around on short notice if needed. About the only way I could see that changing is if somewhere like Indianapolis opened up on a year when the Sox weren't still contracted to Charlotte, so they could move their AAA players closer to Chicago to facilitate emergency call ups. As it is now, this set up also benefits them because their roving instructors don't have far to go, and neither do their scouts. and from what I've heard, from some ex-minor leaguers, this concept is without merit. What's more important, travel time for roaming instructors or developing a fan base?
-
Two things... Immediately - Drop Parking Prices Long-Term - Move Minor League Affiliates closer to home. Having Kane County go to the Cubs, without a presumed fight, is a horrendous decision. Peoria, South Bend, Iowa, grab some fringe fans who, when they take vacations to Chicago, may have a nice incentive to go see the big league team play. Grow the base.

My Sox Summer - 50 games for under $500
jasonxctf replied to My_Sox_Summer's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Tuna @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Everybody's situation is different. I live in the suburbs, have kids that want to go, etc...I'm not just buying one ticket, I need 3 or 4. I have to pay for parking, I have to pay for drinks/food, whether it be at the park or eating before we get there because we're driving when we would typically be eating dinner. Do you have any idea how early people from the northern suburbs have to leave to get to 35th st by 7pm? I work so Mondays aren't a great option, I'd imagine that's the case for most people and that would be the reasoning behind the Sox giving that pricing in the first place. There's no "excuses" being made, I'm giving you REASONS as to why. i completly agree. It's funny.. we make comparisons to Cubs games attendance. I think parking costs are a big factor in detering a certain amount of fans coming to the games. With the Cubs example, I'm guessing that a majority of those in attendance didn't pay for parking, where as with the Sox, they did. $23 isnt cheap. I'd be curious to see what % of Cubs attendance is from people within a 5 mile radius of the stadium. What % of Sox attendance is the same? Personally, its not so much the costs as it is the time/hassle for me to go to games. With a 2 year old at home, and I live way out in Geneva, we are talking about a 90 minute drive in and 60 minute drive home plus finding a babysitter, etc. Was fortunate enough to go to 3 games this year. Scout Seats (awesome), Upper Deck (thanks Kids Club) and Box Seats (company giveaway). -
Dunn playing with torn muscle in his side
jasonxctf replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) This is a very vague question. How much do they walk? How much do they strike out? Are those other hits going for more extra base hits or are they going to be singles? Do they steal bases? Can they play defense? Do they play any position other than a corner? Of what type of hitters is the lineup composed? How old are the players? Because essentially, that comparison right now is comparing Dunn to Viciedo. Who do you prefer? You can also be comparing Dunn to Pierzynski, Swisher, Chris Davis, Ryan Ludwick, Willin Rosario, Jason Heyward, Paul Goldschmidt, Ryan Zimmerman, Hanley Ramirez...all those guys generally fit that range. There is more different about all those players than there are similarities. (and before you start screaming bloody murder, Viciedo is short of .270 by 8 hits, so the comparison does work) you're right. it was too vague. But I think your comparison of Vicideo is a good one. Personally I've never been a big fan of the Carlos Pena type low batting average, boppers. I was thinking to myself though, would the Sox have been better off, had Adam Dunn retired? Let Viciedo DH and replace him in LF with say a Nick Swisher type player. This assumes the $ savings to upgrade the bullpen? With that, you are basically replacing Dunn with a LF replacement and some bullpen help. -

So a general question.. do you prefer a guy who's got a line of .210 41hr and 94 rbi or .270 25hr and 70 rbi is it more valuable to have a guy who hits 15 more hr's and drives in 24 more runs or a guy who gets an extra 30-40 hits per year? -
tired arm.... 6 of his first 8 starts this year with good. Starting in June, the wheels fell off.

good to know. think im going to order mlb.tv tonight. is your youtube app working on the ps3?? spent at least 2 hours messing with it yesterday with no success.
-
is anyone running that. How's the performance? i've got a 3mb/sec download speed at home. Wondering if that is fast enough to stream?
-
i think its also about expectations for Dunn. When he was signed he was approx a career .250 hitter with a .380 obp. These past 2 seasons have been the lowest 2 in his 13 year career for both batting average and obp. He may get to his 38-40 average HR range this year, but the cost of that is a batting average .40-50 lower than normal. Bottom line, you cant rely on him to be an offensive juggernot in this lineup.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:49 AM) No shareholders. It is a privately held company. There's always shareholders even for private companies. My company of 10 employees has shareholders.

What they do/say is in poor taste. Also as a business person, I'd say it's a poor business decision too. If I was a shareholder I'd be quite upset. Same thing if I was a franchise owner. In business you need to be vanilla as possible. No religion, no politics. Shoot I don't even share my sox love in certain cases to not offend cubs fans.

2 games in a row versus the Twins? Is there some kind of crazy marketing effort going on now? Any idea how today's game will look?
-
i have split feelings here. I dont necessarily like when guys say that they are happy not playing. While neither Dunn nor Peavy made the team because of fan votes, (maybe Peavy to some extent) it does irritate me that as fans we are asked to vote early and often and spend hours doing so. Just to have guys make a team and then ask not to play. Whats the point?

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) I'd throw Floyd vs Detroit and Boston. He's 7-1 combined lifetime in Fenway and Comerica. It's like you read my mind.

And who honestly thought the sox would be in first place right now? -
what purpose is he serving? Why not DFA him?

yeah lets not have a Jose Contreras situation here. check out the rest of the pictures on deadspin. Hanging with some chicks in a Chicago Bar when your wife is at home, does not make for an effective baseball player. Especially if divorce papers arrive in the Clubhouse.
