The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching
jasonxctf replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) Ya, I don't get the knock on Ventura to be honest. The FO gives Ventura the players to make up the lineup card so Ventura is just doing his best to work with what he's given. As for adding starting pitching depth, I like the idea of adding Beachy. I think Latos and Fister will be a bit costly for what the Sox are looking for. i remember yelling at the TV many times back in 2013/2014, in the 7th-9th inning's with a runner on 1st/2nd and Dunn being up. Opponent brings in a LOOGY, and Robin lets Dunn hit. (or last year with Laroche) -
Looks like he switched up Sox hats for a different day. Must have a few http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/latest-...manalo-35967103

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) So this has nothing to do with Islam? Seems to me we are pretty weak in being afraid of the PC police on this one. Is it ok to blame the PPP shooting in Colorado on Christianity?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) This has to be the worst idea ever. If somebody brings a real gun ... WOW. Texas do something unwise. ?

Was watching MLB network this weekend and one of the Sox-beat reporters was only chatting about the Club. He said that right now, Saladino is the plan for the starting SS position. Has anyone heard the same?
-
QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) It's crazy how much better this world would be without religion. Sheep gonna sheep agree, 100%.
-
i wonder how many terrorist gun attacks have a religious element to them? The last two clearly did... - Christian and PPP shooting in Colorado - Islam and San Bernadino

I used to be in the camp of the sox needing to draft hitters, but after seeing what free agent pitchers are getting, I say draft pitchers every time. If shark is worth $16 AAV in this market, what's sale, Quintana and Rodon worth? When these guys hit free agency there's no way the sox will pay up. Gotta have the backup of arms to replace them. Shoot the 3 of them may not make $16 mil total next year -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) Trump might as well win the presidency. It's our last-ditch hope for an economic recovery even though he is way too cocky for some old guy. I mean Hilly isn't going to fix the economy. Trump would maybe fix it and at the very least give us a lotta laughs. Besides higher paying jobs, what in the macro-us economy needs fixing? - Unemployment near decade lows - Stock market near decade highs - Home values increasing - Trade Deficit at yearly lows (http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/11/04/us-economy-trade-idUSKCN0ST1T420151104#7mm4TJsxiUpiAzjg.97) - US Auto Sales are rocking (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/02/business/while-us-car-sales-jump-vws-plunge.html?_r=0)

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) Getting close to full employment. Gotta say, its kind of remarkable where we've come from since 2008. In remarks prepared for delivery to Congress, Yellen also said the market is close to the central bank's goal of full employment, and that drags on inflation will diminish next year. Read more at: http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/economy/f...rce=ref_article And to add to this, my company has had 2 job openings in sales posted on Monster for 2 weeks, Craiglist for a month and 2 local colleges for a month too. Received a whopping grand total of 4 resumes.

This shooting has a little bit of everything. Workplace Grievance for sure. From CNN's updated coverage, you get a bit of mixed messages on the "radicalization" link. On one hand it says.. apparently was radicalized and in touch with people being investigated by the FBI for international terrorism, law enforcement officials said Thursday. Then later in the article it says.. Yet Farook himself had talked by phone and on social media with more than one person being investigated for terrorism, law enforcement officials said. The communications were "soft connections" in that they weren't frequent, one law enforcement official said. It had been a few months since Farook's last back-and-forth with these people, who officials said were not considered high priority. So in a nutshell, as of now, he spoke a few times, months ago, with some guys, who may or may not be terrorists. And if they were, they weren't prominent figures.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) Trayce is much more valuable though because he's a similar hitter and plays way better defense. Agree, 100%. But the reason why there's a Avi vs Trayce discussion in the first place, is because of LaRoche. If the Sox had the ability to have a DH/OF platoon of Cabrera/Avi, then both could be kept. Again, I think both still have tremendous upside and like them both. I just dont like that they have to pick one or the other at this stage.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) Avi in 2013 w/ Sox 111 wRC+, 0.0 fWAR Trayce in 2015 w/ Sox 144 wRC+, 1.5 fWAR And that also ignores the part of 2013 where Avi was with the Tigers, in which he managed to be sub-replacement level alongside a 73 wRC+ What was Trayce's wRC/WAR for the last 2 months of the season? That's kind of my point. In small sample sizes, the guy was gangbusters for the first 30 or so at bats. Then he dropped off dramatically. I'm sure Avi's wrc/war was great for the first month or two of the season when he was hitting above .300 too in 155AB's.

I like Avi... I also like Trayce. Found the below to be interesting. Avi in 2013 w/Sox .304 5HR, 21RBI. 161AB Trayce in 2015 w/Sox .295 5HR, 16RBI in 122AB Trayce also hit .234 in September and .231 in October. Those 2 months, reflected 90 of his 122 AB's of the season. (nearly 74%)
-
Not sure if this is new or not, but Baseball Reference has added a "Projection" for him in 2016. This is their projections. .261, 10HR, 56RBI. .297OBP, .376SLG, 17SB. To me this looks most like the 2012 Alexei performance. (minus the RBI drop off)
