Fox News viewers are much more likely than others to believe false information about American politics, a new study concludes. The study, conducted by the University of Maryland, judged how likely consumers of various news outlets and publications were to believe misinformation about a wide range of political issues. Overall, 90% of respondents said they felt they had heard false information being given to them during the 2010 election campaign. However, while consumers of just about every news outlet believed some information that was false, the study found that Fox News viewers, regardless of political information, were "significantly more likely" to believe that: --Most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses (12 points more likely) --Most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit (31 points) --The economy is getting worse (26 points) --Most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring (30 points) --The stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts (14 points) --Their own income taxes have gone up (14 points) --The auto bailout only occurred under Obama (13 points) --When TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it (12 points) --And that it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States (31 points) In addition, the study said, increased viewership of Fox News led to increased belief in these false stories.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) While we're at it... The $7.4 billion price tag is less than 1% the price of the tax cut agreement. By the way, Illinois, when Mark Kirk was running for office, he pledged to vote for this bill. He also voted for it while he was in the House. He is now in the Senate, and he voted to uphold the filibuster to kill the bill, on the grounds that the Senate should do nothing until the tax cut package is extended. that's sad. these people were responding to a national emergency in a state of war against our country, not just NY. It shouldn't matter where their paycheck comes from. Help them.

wasn't sure where to put this. Did everyone see what Luke Scott said at the Winter Meetings about the President. Regardless of whatever conspiracy theories you may have, when you're in the public eye (actor, athlete, etc) why would you say this? Baltimore Orioles outfielder Luke Scott was at baseball's winter meetings on Tuesday and discussed President Barack Obama with David Brown of Yahoo's Big League Stew. Scott slammed Obama, stating that he does not represent America and that he was not born in the United States. "He was not born here. That's my belief. I was born here," Scott ranted. "If someone accuses me of not being born here, I can go -- within 10 minutes -- to my filing cabinet and I can pick up my real birth certificate and I can go, 'See? Look! Here it is. Here it is.' The man has dodged everything. He dodges questions, he doesn't answer anything. And why? Because he's hiding something." The 32-year-old went on to say that there is no legal documentation of Obama.

yeah i get it. my comment about no one having to actually pay it was at a macro level. it will always be added to, refinanced, extended, etc. will go on till the end of time. as i type one handed, holding my 8 week daughter in the other hand, i think that in her lifetime, we will never pay off the debt.
-
no one will ever have to pay it. there's no end game. as long as we can cash flow the debt payments, who the hell cares.

Dear old man at the gym, No one, wants to see your balls. If you haven't noticed, everyone else in the locker room walks around with a towel on, except you. There is no need for you to saddle up to the locker next to mine with your sh*t flapping in the breeze while I try get dressed. In addition, there's no need for you to weigh yourself completely nude on the community scale. It's not very hygenic. Sincerely Disgusted ex-athlete

Black Friday Weekend Sales Rise 6.4%, $45 Billion in Spending Monday, November 29, 2010 According to a National Retail Federation (NFR) survey conducted over the weekend by BIGresearch, more shoppers visited stores and websites over Black Friday weekend - and spent more - than a year ago. With one of the biggest shopping days of the year under their belts, retailers have reason to smile, the NRF said. According to the survey, 212 million shoppers visited stores and websites over Black Friday weekend, up from 195 million last year. People also spent more, with the average shopper this weekend spending $365.34, up 6.4% from last year's $343.31. Total spending reached an estimated $45.0 billion, the NFR said. "While Black Friday weekend is not always an indicator of holiday season performance, retailers should be encouraged that a focus on value and discretionary gifts has shoppers in the spirit to spend," said Matthew Shay, NRF president and CEO. "As retailers look ahead to the first few weeks of December, it will be important for them to keep momentum going with savings and incentives that holiday shoppers simply can't pass up." If it seems like Black Friday gets earlier every year, that's because it is. Many retailers opened their doors earlier than ever, and eager shoppers followed suit. According to the survey, the number of people who began their Black Friday shopping at midnight tripled this year from 3.3% last year to 9.5%in 2010. In fact, by 4 a.m. nearly one-fourth (24.0%) of Black Friday shoppers were already at the stores. Thanksgiving Day openings have also been a boon to the industry, as the number of people who shop on Thanksgiving - both online and in stores - has doubled over the past five years, from 10.3 million in 2005 to 22.3 million in 2010

And I'll make one more, since this is a great thread. Dear Retailers in General, If you haven't noticed, we are dealing with a national unemployment rate of 9.5%. That being said, it's time to upgrade your workforce to the best available. God knows there are plenty of available bodies to fill positions. Therefore, if your employee has no idea of what's going on, or is moving at a snails pace, maybe it's time to upgrade. Sincerely Annoyed Shopper

Dear Middle-Aged Women Entering the Expressway Just a reminder that we are entering traffic moving at a minimum of 55mph. It may be wise, to increase your speed on the on-ramp to an amount greater than 32mph so we don't get in an accident. Sincerely Guy Trying to Drive Home on I88

its interesting amongst the mix of other polls, results. So Americans... - Are pretty split (+3 negative on the presidents performance) - But are optimistic about his Presidency - Voted overwhelmingly to elect Republicans to the House/Senate - Really want them to work with the President - But don't think the people they just elected, will.
