  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) Brewers are absolutely in a youth movement if they're trying to trade Greinke, Aramis and Hart, as well as losing Marcum in the offseason. Who do they have left after Braun, Weeks (ugh) and Gallardo? The last two years was their window, and they just couldn't didn't have enough to beat the Cards last year and could never get on track this year. The Brewers are definitely not rebuilding. They are making changes that help them win now, Melvin said it. The NL central is horrible, and they know if they win they pack the stadium. And winning isn't exactly difficult in the Central.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:49 PM) How many guys take a discount anyway? It rarely happens. Peavy will stay if nobody else is willing to give him huge bucks. As far as Greinke, to me it just doesn't make sense to deal major league players or an important minor leaguer for a guy that probably won't sign with you in the offseason. Like Fathom said, all that for 10 starts? It happens a lot with the Sox. We have seen discounts given quite a bit. Our Organization takes care of players both during and after their career. And with the injury and other stuff with Peavy I think he is a kind of guy that wants to make up for that. Anyways here's some quotes from an article after the allstar game, from the sun times. “I can tell you this: I love Chicago, I love what we have as far as a team, from [board chairman] Jerry [Reinsdorf], to [general manager] Kenny [Williams], to the staff they brought in, and I can tell you this, this is as good a staff as I’ve ever been a part of. I can tell you this, I can’t see any more of an appealing place to play than Chicago. My comfort level with them knowing my body, my routine that I have, a routine we’ve gotten down, we understand, what we need to do to keep healthy, stay strong, so I can tell you that. I want to be here, but we’ll let the chips fall when they may when that time comes. “I do love Chicago, and when the time comes and we do have that conversation – if we ever have it – with Kenny and with the rest of the staff, I will let them know that I want to stay if I can stay. I would love to end my career right here [in Chicago]. We’ll see.’’ Here's the link pretty good read: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/13704613-419/story.html
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Brewers probably want nothing to do with Floyd. They'd be more interested in possible prosects the Sox could get for Floyd, and even then, I don't think Floyd gets you top 75 prospects. If you look at some of the names the Brewers are asking for (Manny Machado, Teherean, etc.), a lot of these trade packages suggested for Greinke on this site make no sense. Well they are interested in something KW is throwing at them. With all reports out there saying we are heavily involved. If we had nothing they wanted the continued pursuit would have stopped and We would have moved on.
  4. One industry source believes Zack Greinke will be dealt before Ryan Dempster. Dempster to #Dodgers possibility remains in limbo. John Morisi
  5. Bob Nightengale just posted an article that says Grienke will be dealt according to GM Bob Melvin. Here's more quotes from Melvin about Zach: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/da...greinke-trade/1
  6. Who would you rather include in a package I guess along with Floyd? Beckham or DeAza? Maybe we Nijer Morgan or another Kenny favorite Carlos Gomez along with Grienke??
  7. Personally I think in any deal there will be a window to negotiate an extension, however I don't think it would hold up a deal on our end. KW is making this move (or any team for that matter) with every intention to re-sign Grienke. Kenny has wanted him for ages, him and Doc. I'm sure he has the consent of JR to attempt to resign him. The guy is young and has amazing stuff. If Ozzie was still the manager I don't think Grienke fits long term, but with the laid back baseball first clubhouse Robin has created Grienke will be a perfect fit. Any move made will be with an eye to the future as well as now. I also don't think a Grienke trade and ultimate extension means the end of Jake either. Jake has gotten paid, he has said it before. He will take a discount to stay with his "boys" loves Chicago, him and Dunner are buds. He will give us a sweetheart deal in the offseason, watch. Finally, if we get ZG all we have to do is win. We have a ton of home games in Aug and Sept and if Kenny pulls this fans will pack it in. If the team continues to win and sellout, make the playoffs and have a run in October, KW and JR will put that $ back into the club we have seen that. We are creating the right attitude and atmosphere as a Franchise people ate going to want to stick around. Win. That's it. Win.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) Interesting. Maybe that's why KW inquired about Ichiro. If they made the trade is there any doubt as soon as Vernon Wells is let go in LA he would be reunited with Rios. Victorino may be available, and Phillies are known to be looking for bullpen help. Tough to replace De Aza IMO he has been the ideal leadoff man and a huge huge part of our success this year. You would have to replace him.
  9. I think someone like Joe Saunders is a Kenny under the radar like move. He has come back strong since his return from the DL, has AL experience. And has stuff that suits US Cellular Field well. Relatively cheap contract, 6 MIL this year. I don't think we would have to give up a lot for him. Here is his stats this season: Season Stats TM G GS W L SV HOLD IP H R ER BB K CG SHO ERA WHIP ARZ 16 16 5 6 0 0 100.0 106 45 39 25 71 1 1 3.51 1.31 Not a wow move but a guy with AL West expiernce and has great stuff.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) Have you seen him pitch this year?? Since he was handed the closers job last week, this is what he has done: 7/17: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 K, SV 7/18: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, SV 7/23: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, BS, L 7/25: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, BS, L I think some of these numbers are skewed. Just like Grienke I think This is another case of pitching like your bored and have nothing to win for. I think adding him would be huge for the bullpen.
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) FWIW: KW has had an offer out there for a while now for Greinke. It's substantial and includes key mlb roster talent. Sox are very determined to land him. I'm guessing Floyd+Beckham + Spect maybe for Greinke+Weeks+ bullpen help MIL wanted Beckham badly a few years ago when KW was trying to trade for Prince Fielder. I can easily see them resorting Beckham back into a shortstop, since they have a huge need for a young SS. The more I read the less likely I think the Brewers move him for just prospects. If they can get ML talent and young talent at that I would have to think that's what they prefer. I just think that is a lot of we don't extend him, maybe well have a window.
  12. I think we may be all under estimating the JR's and Selig relationship in a potential deal with MIL. People still say he has a ton of pull with the club and JR has a ton of pull with the commish. Just another thought.
  13. Some more Grienke quotes: (again find it odd they are openly talking about it in the clubhouse) The Sox scouted Greinke on Tuesday and are known to be right alongside the Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers in their desire to pry him from the Brewers before Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline. Two Sox sources said it would probably take more than what the Sox’ farm system has to offer. In that case, the Sox would have to part with a player off the 25-man roster, such as right-hander Gavin Floyd, in any deal for Greinke. So the upgrade in the rotation would be viewed in quality, not quantity, leaving the Sox to take their chances with Chris Sale, Peavy, Greinke, Jose Quintana and Philip Humber and having injured Opening Day starter John Danks potentially return around Sept. 1. “You’d welcome anybody of that caliber,’’ Peavy said of Greinke. “If they think we need something and it’s feasible financially in what we’d have to give up, you never know with Kenny. At the same time, we believe in the guys we have.’’ “We’re going to do the best we can with what we have, and we obviously like what we have to put us in this position,’’ said Dunn, who doubled and scored in the fifth on Alex Rios’ 16th homer. “Obviously, we wouldn’t be opposed to getting someone like [Greinke], but that’s not my job.’’ More about it here's the link: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...ck-greinke.html
  14. Unfortunately it looks like the chairman turned down what we all knew was a pipe dream. No Buerhls back.... Unless they pick up a bunch of salary. LOL JK. Here's a breif quote from a article about JR on ESPN Chicago: Reinsdorf was asked about adding pitching to his playoff-contending club, specifically bringing back Mark Buehrle, considering Miami's so-called fire sale. Reinsdorf admitted he advised Buehrle to sign with the Marlins. "The only thing I can tell you is when Mark told me he had a $56-million, four-year contract offer, I told him he should take it," Reinsdorf said. "I really told Mark he had to take it. At this stage of your career, it's more money than you're worth. He said he was going to take it, but he'll back in four years." Link:http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=8200951&city=chicago
  15. Found it interesting Fox MLB had this as one of their top stories even though the article itself was written a few days ago. Ken Rosenthal has always seemed to have a pretty good source with the sox and has broke/reported a few Sox trades recently. Maybe KW and Rosey use each other. Just seems odd maybe something is up. http://extreme.mobile.msn.com/sports/mlb/article/1511027
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:26 AM) Let someone else overpay for Greinke. Go get JJ Putz and strengthen the pen. IMO the pen is fine. I think KW is done adding to the bullpen with Myers. We need depth in the rotation to last the next two months or so. We have a lot of question marks and uncharted territory in the rotation right now IMO. And that's where Kenny is looking.
  17. Doesn't look good for us, Kenny is going to have to be creative and get something done under the radar. Personally I still envision one of the Cubs starters here. Heres the latest from Heyman per MLBTR: The price tag for Greinke is extremely high, interested teams told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The Brewers are said to have a particular interest in a top young shortstop, and a source said they asked the Orioles Manny Machado, a request that was rebuffed.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) The thing is I don't think he see's the window of opportunity closing so quickly. Weather we get Greinke or not we're in a good position. Granted I think we need another starter but one can be acquired without sacrificing the future. All the moves KW made in the off season and so far during the season point to him looking at the future while keeping his eye on this year. I believe he continues along that path. We shall see. Spot on, great post!
  19. I like it. Keep packing it in maybe it will give KW the extra incentive to make that "impact" move. Too bad we have no more home games before the deadline.
  20. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:32 PM) God this man is a delusional arrogant prick. No two ways about it, I don't get it. He must just listen to what Joe Cowley spoon feeds him in the AM. I will say it was pretty funny when they informed Infante he was traded. Bienfiest: You've been traded back to Detroit. Infante: Thank You! Ozzie: Thank you? F**k you. Lol gotta love seeing Oz embarrassed on the spot. I swear as soon as Ozzie heard the trade was to Detroit he smiled big time. I can't wait for next week when the rug is pulled out underneath him when they show the Hanley for a Bucket of Balls trade.Karma.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) Both? Mark didn't go on a rant...did he? Sorry both as in Oney and Ozzie.
  22. They both go on a rant about how people in Chicago forgot what he did for us, that we think he knows nothing about baseball, blah blah blah. They are so delusional. Ozzie we lost respect for you because of how you handled the team last year. How you checked out and made it all about you and your contract. That's why we are happy you aren't managing here. Now it's all about BASEBALL. I love you for all the wins as a manager and player. I love you for the best memory of my life a world series championship. But when you act like this it's hard to like you. Anyone else see this tonight?
  23. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:25 AM) From: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensa...ts/?page_id=177 Some decent options I guess, but I am of the opinion that we should keep rolling out Beckham. Lol I forgot Hudson is still on this team.
  24. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) That Cliff Lee deal is crazy. 25 million in 2015. He will be 36. Cliff and Doc both have no trade clauses though
  25. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) With today being a day game and the day off tomorrow this would be a great opportunity for some trade rumors heating up after this game ends... I concur!
