  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) This is a great call. Expect Kenny to bring in someone that no one is talking about. Cliff Lee
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) Jim Bowden's new ESPN Insider article..... "If I had to rank the suitors in the order of the likelihood they get Greinke, it would go like this: 1. Rangers 2. Angels 3. Braves 4. Nationals 5. Blue Jays 6. Dodgers 7. Orioles " IIRC wasn't Bowden the guy reporting the Sox getting Dunn for Jackson a few deadlines ago? I don't believe anything that guy says. Especially with all the insiders that actually have solid sources.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) What they COULD offer is irrelevant. No one is going to go throwing around multiple high end prospects for 2 months of Greinke. I disagree, the price on starting pitching is at a premium. It's arguably the most sought after asset before the deadline. Dempster is a rental and the Braves were giving up Delgado. 2 months or not, LA, Texas, Atl all have money to offer him an extension or atleast think they would have a good shot. They also have deep system so giving up a few guys in the minors doesn't affect them like it does us. I guess well see, Rosthenthal is a pretty solid insider and he wrote a piece about the Floyd going to the Jays for a prospect to be swung back to MiL for ZG. That may have some legs since he was on that a few days ago.
  4. I would love it, however all those teams listed could offer a better package if minor league players in their sleep then us. But if were willing to trade Floyd and perhaps Beckham or another player off the roster we may have a chance. Arguably the three other teams mentioned are in the top 5 systems in baseball. Get er' done Kenny!!
  5. Ya, there's a buyers market out there for sure. I could only imagine the activity of GMs across the league on the phones. Kenny is going to have to to strike under the radar. Can we just fast forward to Tuesday?
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) I also wouldn't be surprised if the Sox acquired Weeks (whose contract is currently brutal), Greinke, and some substantial cash in a deal involving Floyd, Beckham, and spects. Probably at least someone the caliber of a Mitchell. That partially depends on whether the Sox brass thinks Weeks can rebound. And it isn't normal for the Sox to take on a bad contract. Although I think that would be a little much for Grienke, and I prefer Beckham to Weeks. It would not surprise me in the slightest if Gordon gets traded in a package. I'm a huge Beckham fan, only authentic jersey I own but he has been a huge disappointment and I could imagine he still has some trade value. KW might move him in the right deal. I would be sad to see him go but wouldn't mind seeing it if he brought back something that pushed us over the edge. I'm not sure if Grienke/Weeks is that package however. But a GB/Floyd could probably fetch us a pretty good trade.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) Webster is a pretty good prospect with a nice sinker. Would be a good return for Cubs. I thought they'd be lucky to get a Chris Reed type. Looks like the market for him has shrunk due to him rejecting a trade to the Braves. The Cubs have to be pissed to miss out on Delgado, he would have been a huge win for them. The Dodgers are playing this just right know Dempster wants LA and aren't going to give up anything big. They probably still get this done IMO jus a little hard ball. But.... I think this also sets up for potentially KW to put a call out there and float the idea of pitching on the South side of Chicago, and not have to give up anything significant. I do not see the Cubs keeping him.
  8. Here's the latest on Dempster: (per MLB Trade Rumors) The Cubs now plan to keep Dempster and make him a qualifying offer after the season, ESPN.com's Buster Olney tweets. Doing so would allow the Cubs to collect a compensatory draft pick in 2013. The Dodgers have Zack Greinke and Josh Johnson on their list in case they don't trade for Greinke, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. Braves GM Frank Wren said on 680-AM The Fan in Atlanta that he's "moving on" from Dempster. "I think it's very highly unlikely," Wren said (via ESPNChicago.com). Once the Braves heard Dempster would prefer to play for the Dodgers, they moved on. Wren said the Braves continue pursuing starting pitchers. The Dodgers have the upper hand in talks with the Cubs, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets. The Dodgers are feeling increasingly confident that they can work out a deal for Dempster, ESPN.com's Buster Olney tweets. The Cubs don't have many alternatives given Dempster's interest in playing for L.A. and his no-trade protection. A trade between the Dodgers and Cubs still seems “realistic,” Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. The Dodgers still intend to add a starting pitcher, Scott Miller of CBSSports.com tweets.
  9. I could def. see Kenny calling about C Lee as well he has coveted both Doc and Cliff for awhile. The teams have mactched up a few times in recent years. They are going to have to get rid of one their big contracts either now or in the off season. I still think Kenny is using this pretty aggressive market right now. He said it in Chucks write up there some "surprising calls" out there, who knows what he is thinking I just think he will either do something that makes a big splash (impact move) or nothing. Should be an interesting couple of days.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Meanwhile, there's a reason the Marlins have no fans. They go out and sign Jose Reyes off one ridiculous half-season before he tore his hamstring, and now they're stuck with a more expensive, lesser shortstop. Great point and it would seem Hanley has the largest fan base in Miami since he's been there the longest plus the demographic of Miami made him very popular. Between this and Ozzies quotes about Fidel the Miami Marlins are officially a TRAIN WRECK! Really kinda shocking after their impact offseason.
  11. Unbelievable, didn't think it would actually happen and surprised they traded him within the NL. I don't know too much about LAs system but it seems to me they didnt give up much in terms of prospects, I figured Mia would get a pretty solid return on Hanley. Maybe they did?
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 07:01 AM) Again, KW never did anything like this to Ozzie. I am very interested to see how he reacts to his team being stripped down around him due to poor performance, because it has never happened before. If KW handed Ozzie a team like that, KW would be(against all common sense) trying to add right now. Definitely will be interesting to see how Oz reacts with this sell-off. I don't think he ever expiernced it with the Sox, can't wait to watch The Franchise on Showtime to see.
  13. KW always makes this time of the year interesting and impossible not to get excited about what he may do. No doubt he has his faults but the guy does his due diligence and always makes it fun to be a Sox fan. Heres the latest from Chucky boy, per CSN Chicago: http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/sox-drawer/...amp;feedID=9399
  14. Man George Brett was pretty funny during the HR derby. Anyone else hear him?
  15. Are the Cubs still paying Zambrano's contract or is that on Miami. He would be one I'd have some interest in on Miami, other then MB obviously.
  16. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) People thinking about a possible Miami trade.. but I wouldn't discount a St. Louis deal. Mitch Boggs or Lance Lynn maybe for someone like Axelrod, Petricka, or Castro coupled with Dan Johnson, I know he's not a prospect but a capable ML power bat that could be useful to a team with zero power from the left side. No way St. Louis trades young, cheap, and live arms. While I'd love either one St. Louis and Miami most likely would be looking to cut payroll in any trades, thus most likely veterans. I really don't know who we'd be scouting from those two teams, I don't see either one of those teams trading from their ML roster. With the extra WC spot I would imagine they will hold tight if not add like Miami already did this week. St. Louis was all but counted out last year, caught fire at the right time and have another ring on their fingers.
  17. If we add anything, KW will not subtract from the ML roster unless it's a lesser bullpen arm like Santiago or Septimo. Or I can see us dangle Quintana in the right trade, but there is no way KW will trade Tank. I'm pretty confident though pitching will be added and I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if KW pulls another shocker. Again although all the reporting sites say our farm system is horrible, I disagree and KW shows he can get a big name with guys we have in the minors. Let's wait and see but sooner than later KW is going to strike!!
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) You'd have to think about it...hell, give them Gavin to make it seem better and see if you can squeeze any money out of them EDIT: It still blows my mind that teams do that stupid backloading. Why won't one team just frontload a contract so the player is likely to get paid a fair rate based on his age. He'd have to get to us first, which would never happen. I dont think Miami thinks there season is over, not after there off season and inaugural season for their ballpark. But I agree about back loading contracts. It doesn't seem logical, but I get it.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) Mark Buehrle? Man I wish!
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 05:52 PM) I say either get an ace-like starter, or don't get any starter. We can manage a competent fifth starter out of Axelrod/Humber/Castro I am also not eager to dump resources on a Greinke type, so you can see that in most scenarios I advocate staying put. 100% agree. You have to look at it as an addition for the playoffs and not just an addition to get to the playoffs. In the playoffs you need 3, preferably 4 solid starters who could potentially shut down the opponent (like we had in 05'). As of now it's hard to even say we'll have one with all the questions about Peavys, Danks, and Sales health and longevity. In my opinion we have to add a starter in order to have a chance in the postseason. I have had a feeling for a while that SP will be Ryan Dempster. I think he is exactly what we need and a perfect fit for him. He has said he has a preference to stay in Chicago or be as close as possible because of the health concerns of his daughter. I just have a feeling this will be KWs guy. With that being said I wish those morons on the Northside would have some restraint with him, he practically lobbied to start tomorrow, if I were them you hold him back and give him another week to rest with the AS break. Anyone have a list or an idea of some other names that may be out there? We know Hammels (too expensive), Garza (ditto), McCarthy (rather have Quintana and not give anything up), Rockies pitchers.... With the WC it's hard to tell. If Lariano is available I'd love to add him as well.
  21. Flowers is starting today in place of AJP, it seems odd to me to give someone a day off after having a 2 HR day. I know there has always been a fued between AJ and Jake, but has it gotten to the next level? I don't recall last year AJ not catching for Jake but it seems like this year anytime Jake starts AJ isn't behind the lineup. I may be wrong but this seems to be an issue this year. It could just be a regular day off for AJ but he doesn't get many off.
  22. Looks like the Cubs are looking to sign him as well. Amazing they at going to invest a good amount of money on three Cuban prospects in one season for all of them to be in the minors. I was kinda hoping KW would land atleast one of these guys. Anyways heres the story (if you care) on ChicagoBreakingSports.com: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7738476.story
  23. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) I posted this on the MLB thread, but since it now is a thread of its own I'll repost. Ya know, I don't really want to continue to hate on the Tribune since they don't own the Cubs any longer, but.........If you read the headline in the Tribune it just reads Marlon Byrd suspended.... It doesn't mention his Cub connection until you open up the article. If it was a former Sox player it would very clearly state Former White Sox player XXXXXX suspended....... No matter how briefly or long ago he played here. Not sayin, I'm just sayin. I agree 100%, the article says the Cubs are still paying him the rest of the 6M he's owed this season. I guess if you're Byrd you have nothing to lose. It's crazy to think a guy like that is making 6M a year, gotta be a Cubs contract
  24. Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2512908.story Always had a feeling he was a juicer. Just a sad thing to see to a nice guy struggling with the end up his career.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) Dumpster's hurt. I know I think that plays into our hands and lessens the demand for him. He comes back with questions, he also has made it clear his family will stay in Chicago with his daughter having that illness. I can seenus working out something with Theo, a lesser package knowing it's a one year thing. After this year he signs back with the Flubs and gets to keep his family here like he wants to. I just have a feeling.
