  1. gavin floyd's name has come up in other #chisox talks. at the moment, they are the most interesting team. 3:46pm - 29 Jul 12
  2. Wonder if KW is trying to get creative and get Chone Figgins in this deal as well for the bench. Another one of KW wet dreams. Seattle would have to pick up a ton of contract but may get better Spects. Probably going to be ridiculed for this one, but it's def. Something KW would do.
  3. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) Very possible, although I doubt Ozzie is anything more than a "yes" man in Florida at this point. Loria has his hand on the plug, and when he pulls it, Ozzie's baseball career officially goes bye-bye. Good point, Ozzie kinda has to bend down and take it. Atleast his managing career will be over a short time, most likely would work for MLB network or Fox.
  4. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) If you're Loria, and KW offers you to swap one year of Johnson for one year of Floyd, at $4M+ less, and agrees to give you Reed and good prospects in return, do you take the bait? Good question, reports say he's looking for a huge package. But as we have seen you never know with Loria. It could be tempting. Ozzie would probably not want Gavin for anything though.
  5. 3:03pm: There's some scuttlebutt in high circles that the Giants are the team getting League, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports (on Twitter). But it's not a sure thing.
  6. Last year Fotenot's majority of appearances were at SS for the SF Giants. Here is his line as a SS. Pos G GS CG Inn Ch PO A E DP Fld% Rtot Rdrs Rtot/yr Rdrs/yr RF/9 RF/G lgFld% SS 50 43 27 365.0 158 51 100 7 20 .956 -4 -3 -12 -9 3.72 3.02 .971 4.40 4.38 He can play all three INF spots we need, SS/3B/2B and brings a over .300 career BA. I think this dude fits perfectly!
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) This is way out of date. Altuve is an All-Star and would be a huge upgrade over Beckham, same with Kelly Johnson. Getz can't play SS well enough. Same with Fontenot. Scutaro was just traded to the Giants. Some of the shortstops might work, but KW isn't going to give up anything of significance for a back-up/bench guy. I doubt they'd want to pay Bloomquist $1.9 million in 2013. Ransom, Ryan and Carroll would be okay...but they're not going to spend a lot of money or talent on this one. Petty clear it's out of date however it is the only compiled list out there of potetially available players. I figured the majority of people could use their common sense to cross of those who either aren't available, been moved already, or doesn't fit our need. Just trying to provide some information to fuel converstation. Plus most of these guys like Bloomquist, Fotenot, Carrol, Uribe won't cost much more than low-A prospects. But provide balance and bench expiernece to a team that desperately needs a quality backup IF since we lack it on the bench and minors now.
  8. I kinda like either Uribe if LAD picks up a significant portion of his contract or Mike Fotenot. Fotenot seems like an ideal fit, great glove, shows occasionally pop, does the small things right IE. SB, sac bunts, hitting to the right side. Either one of these guys would be amazing and would really round out this team nicely.
  9. Found a list of "potentially" available SS/2B who could fit the utility role we need. List was compiled by MLBTR and listed on their website under 2012 trade deadline. The trade market for shortstops looks thin this summer. Here’s a closer look: Marco Scutaro, Rockies - Scutaro figures to draw considerable interest because he can play second base and shortstop while contributing at the plate. Though he’s mostly playing second in Denver, he has considerable experience at shortstop, including 27 games at the position in 2012. The 36-year-old infielder has a .277/.329/.372 batting line in 2012. He earns $6MM this year and will hit free agency this coming offseason. Willie Bloomquist, Diamondbacks - The Diamondbacks could consider offers for Bloomquist once John McDonald returns from the disabled list. Bloomquist, 34, has a .294/.324/.393 batting line and earns $1.9MM per season for 2012 and 2013. Now that Stephen Drew is back, Bloomquist is on the bench. Cody Ransom, Brewers - The Brewers could trade Ransom if they become sellers this month. The infielder has a .214/.313/.403 batting line in 177 plate appearances so far this year and has played shortstop 32 times. Brendan Ryan, Mariners - Teams might be willing to overlook Ryan's .187/.287/.276 slash line because of his reputation as a tremendous defender. He's earning $1.75MM this year and will be arbitration eligible this coming offseason. Jamey Carroll, Twins - Carroll, 38, has a .234/.318/.278 batting line and more than $5MM remaining on his contract with Minnesota, so he wouldn’t have much trade value. Jed Lowrie, Astros - Lowrie is essentially unavailable, Ken Rosenthal reported five days ago. The Dodgers recently asked about Lowrie, who has an impressive .254/.343/.461 batting line in his first season as a National Leaguer. Rumors and speculation surrounded Starlin Castro early on this year, but it appears that the 22-year-old is staying put. 2B Marco Scutaro, Rockies - Scutaro will likely be traded, Troy Renck of the Denver Post wrote last month. The 36-year-old infielder has a .285/.336/.385 batting line and considerable experience at shortstop. He earns $6MM this year and will hit free agency this coming offseason. Orlando Hudson, White Sox - It's been a rough year for Hudson, who lost his roster spot on the Padres then his starting job on the White Sox. If a team were to call about the 34-year-old, the White Sox would presumably listen. Darwin Barney, Cubs - Rival teams have asked about Barney, but there's no reason for the Cubs to rush a deal. Barney won't even be arbitration eligible until after the 2013 season and he has an acceptable .264/.309/.371 batting line. Mike Fontenot, Phillies - Fontenot's playing time has been reduced since Chase Utley returned from the disabled list. He's now a bench player with a .329/.372/.384 batting line and the ability to play multiple infield positions. Chris Getz, Royals - Getz, now on the disabled list with a leg strain, had been playing well before his injury and could draw trade interest this summer. Kelly Johnson, Blue Jays - As long as the Blue Jays don't fall too far out of contention, Johnson figures to stay in Toronto. Jose Altuve, Astros - Despite some speculation that Altuve’s available, it seems far more likely that they’ll hold on. Just because Houston’s headed for another 100-loss season doesn’t mean Jeff Luhnow will trade a controllable middle infielder who’s playing at an All-Star level.
  10. I don't think there is any doubt KW will go out and get a veteran utility guy. He hasn't made all these moves not to have a backup SS or quality backup infielder on the bench. And really when is the last time Orlando has even touched the field. No two ways KW gets a bench player, I just have no idea who is available.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:47 PM) First time in almost 26 years, when Hawk was the GM. Its all good. Mercy. Lol. It is indeed all good!
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:37 PM) Another idea would be bringing back Uribe... I think this is a very real possibility. He has to be available with Hamley there andvGordon coming off the DL. Probably comes cheap. Replaces Eduardo's energy. Get him, call it a deadline, and start skimming the waivers for veteran bullpen help.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:31 PM) Kevin Slowey, Romero or Marcum is next. Dice-K...? LOL. Dempster will be traded to the White Sox if the Dodgers keep low-balling them and Braves don't restart talks. Theo doesn't care about the White Sox-Cubs stuff, only the return. So Dempster for Molina + another fairly advanced pitching prospect. Floyd to be marketed for all he's worth and possibly held onto. You are hearing we may be going after dempster as well? So we might look to trade Floyd for prospects. I would really like to see KW get a vetran utility infielder who plays SS.
  14. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin Very emotional Escobar saying good-bye to a lot of players who really respected that young man. He should get more playing time in Minn The unfortunate side of trades, Escobar I wish you an amazing career. Unless you are playing the sox. Thanks for tonight and we hope to repay you with your very own World Series Ring in April.
  15. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) Absolutely. Yes, he had TJ surgery. So did Strasburg. A lot of guys come back stronger from TJ. Liriano was on my wishlist but never thought the Twins would trade him to the Sox. The fact that they did could mean great things for this franchise the next few seasons if we can re-sign him. According to Baseball Reference Liriano is "3rd year Arbitration eligible" I'm not sure if that means we can offer Arb or he is automatically a free agent. Anyone know for sure?
  16. I think this likely means Danksy will be shut down.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) I have a feeling Eduardo is going to hurt us in the future. Liriano can possibly pitch against his old team this weekend. I agree with the Escobar statement. I heard the news on the post game show, and even before it started Frank was saying how much he was liked in the clubhouse, high energy high character guy. Sucks to lose a chemistry guy like that but man this could be just what this team needs. Crazy interdivision trade that can have great story lines for years to come. Thanks Escy. What's Franciscos contract like? Who do we call up to fill our bench? Great KW move
  18. Before the Mariners traded Ichiro to the Yankees, they were deep in talks with the Giants and White Sox, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Now Kennys reaction to the trade makes sense. Looks like he has been trying for some impact players and just hasn't had the bullets to pull it off.
  19. The Rangers and Angels have backed away from Johnson because they view his $13.5MM price tag as high considering his health history, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com tweets. MLBTR There may be a smaller market for Johnson than originally thought. Atleast less competition for better farm systems. Maybe KW can work some magic. Grated Mia just as well could keep him.
  20. I think we end up with Dempster if anyone the way the market is shaping up. I would very much like to know what KW is thinking after losing out to Grienke. You know he is pissed. I just wonder if there is even another move out there.
  21. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) Didn't Beckett accuse Youk of snitching on the team when they were enjoying chicken and beer during games? That is the suspected story, though Youkbsaid he was never confronted about it by Beckett.
  22. I could see KW picking up the phone again and calling the Redsox, to inquire about Josh Beckett. Yes he has his character flaws at time but the guy could be a big time difference maker. Boston would have to pick up some money too but he fits the impact mold KW was talking about. Fact is Williams will have to get creative in order to land someone. At this point I see us adding a smaller piece, bullpen arm or bench player.
  23. Before Wednesday Twinkie game Jerry honored Humber, AJ, and PK. Humber was given a ring commemorating his perfect game against Seatle. AJ's mask from that perfect game was bronzed (not Jersey Shore style, for real) and given to AJ commemorating his part in Humbers Perfect Game against Sea. And finally, Paulie was also honored with a ring commemorating his 400th career homerun. Love Jerry, and this is why so many players do as well. Bravo Jerry and the Whitesox Orginzation. Here's the link, stumbled upon it on Whitesox.com trying to find out about Ada. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws
  24. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 12:18 AM) I wonder if they've started manufacturing White Sox Dempster jerseys yet. Got the scoop?
  25. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) Hellweg is a bullpen arm and Segura is a future utility guy. The Angels did just fine. Agreed and even if they are top prospects they will still be okay. They know the benefit of having an impact starter down the stretch run. They don't think of it as 10 starts, they see it as that plus a number of starts in the postseason and a WS ring. They have always gone for it and asked questions later. And they didn't even need SP but added cause they understand the value a shut down starter brings. Great move LA. Big blow to us and the rest of the AL.
