QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Right, but the team acquiring him (if traded) is on the hook for the pro-rated amount of the $5-600k. Right but I think Lillian's post was more concerning what his salary would be next year in his final arbitration year. And that number I think will be based off of the $5.1 million deal he signed and not the $1.25 million + major league minimum that he was actually paid this year.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) Sox signed him to a minor league deal. He makes much less than $5M, more like $500k. The contract he signed with the Orioles to avoid arbitration was 1 year $5.1 million. The Orioles released him before it became guaranteed and paid him the required 25% buyout much like the Sox did with Viciedo. I would think that the $5.1 million is the number an arbitrator would look at if it goes to arbitration next year.

Anthony Ranaudo starting vs. Cubs on Wednesday
lasttriptotulsa replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) I think he was on waivers though when we traded for him. I think it's similar when players are claimed on waivers and able to go to the minors with the new team. If he was out of options and on waivers the Sox wouldn't have had to give anything up for him. He would have just been claimed and awarded to the team highest up on the list. MLBTR did not have him on the list of players out of options this spring. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/03/out-...tions-2016.html -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) I am not 100% sure, but I don't think this is the case. Remember the Sox acquired him via trade from the Rangers, he wasn't released. If he were out of options the Rangers wouldn't have been able to send him down earlier this year nor would the Sox when they traded for him. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) Ranaudo will have to clear waivers to stay with the Sox. The timing of this lends credence to the idea that the Sox will move a SP. Notice how when they were in it, they called up Turner, who was less deserving. Once they fell apart, Ranaudo got his shot. Why would Ranaudo have to clear waivers? He was already optioned this year before. -
Last night's game thread was a complete embarrassment as a Sox fan. Reminded me why I rarely open them.

Yes, we all know that Abreu is having a tough year. We don't need a new f***ing thread every couple days about it.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) Could be a lot worse *cough*Turner!*cough* QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) We got Jacob Turner pitching on Wednesday at Wrigley against his former team. They really should move Turner into long relief for this series and give the start to Ranaudo. He definitely deserves a shot over Turner with the way he's pitched this year. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) The USCF return of the Hawkeroo. I think Paulie is throwing out the first pitch. Beat these losers. I forgot Hawk was doing these games. Hopefully the Sox have a walkoff win because those calls are when Hawk is at his best. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 01:45 AM) With Sale if healthy his last 3 years are $12M, $12.5M , and $13.5M = 38. I threw out 4/60-75 but you changed it to 5 /60. So actually if it was 4/75 he could have a gradual salary increase from $13.5M in the last year of his current deal 2019 to ,$15M in 2020, $17.5M in 2021, $20M in 2022, and $23M in 2022. I know that is still a vast underpay but if you signed him to that fairly soon that guarantees the money for age 31-34 seasons when there is still 7 more years ( 3 on current contract 4 on my proposed one) to have an injury. Just as before you trade the security of a guaranteed payday for the risk of injury and or sudden decline. So you would also have to fix the numbers for Q. Just a small addendum. Sale's 2019 option has already risen to $15 million due to a clause in his contract that was triggered by his 3rd place Cy Young finish two years ago. If he wins a Cy Young in the next 3 seasons that option jumps to $16 million. Quintana has the same clause in his contract as well.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) Trading Sale scares me to be honest. I was looking back at the Randy Johnson trade in 1998. Seattle didn't do bad getting Garcia, Guillen and Halama. They went on to combine for 33.3 WAR in a Seattle uniform. That being said, RJ's next 7 seasons of WAR were 9,8,10,11,1,9,6. And RJ was traded at age 34! Obviously he's an anomaly, but still, makes you think. That's not even a comparable situation at all though. When the Mariners traded RJ he had two months left on his contract and they were completely out of contention. He then signed a massive contract in the off season so the Mariners probably would have lost him anyways.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Royals Well that's not true. The Royals didn't sell of players and wait for the prospects received to arrive (other than Cain for Greinke 5 years earlier). Their core lineup was acquired by having high picks due to many years of sucking and they cobbled together a pitching staff of has beens and never was's. That team on average was older than the current White Sox team.
-
Anybody expecting the Sox to do a full 3-5 year rebuild is just kidding themselves. It will never happen nor should it. The team has a very, very solid core in Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Fulmer, Eaton and Abreu. Plus they have Collins and Burdi waiting in the wings. The team is so close to competing that it would be a shame to start over. I could see them moving some of the group of Q, Frazier, Robertson and Duke but I think they will still go for it in 2017. Honestly who was the last team to do a full tear down and end up winning a World Series out of the rebuild?
-
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Way we could blow it is the same way we blew it (arguably) with Peavy. We tried to get cute and "rebuild on the fly" and traded for Avi in the 3-way instead of getting legit prospects. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) ...Avi was a legit prospect. Just because he busted doesn't mean he wasn't legit. They did not blow it with Peavy. Aside from Avi they got Frankie Montas (a very legit prospect used to acquire Frazier), JB Wendelken (part of the Lawrie trade) and Cleuluis Rondon (jury's still out on, still young). Not to mention the fact that the money saved from moving Peavy was used to sign Abreu the following offseason.

Time to bet the under in the Seattle series

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Inform my ignorance please... What does "2 dimes" equate to in non-badass-slang-lingo? A dime is $1000 in betting slang. -
Time to bet the under in the Seattle series

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) Total of 8 once again. I don't see us scoring many against Felix. 2 dimes again on the under to make an easy 5k off the series. Wish the books gave us more gifts like this.....I'd quit my day job. Nobody cares. -
QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) I'm really down on Abreu, he's out of shape, can't field and is slower than Konerko. All that plus if he's 28, I'm a monkey's uncle. I'd like to see Frazier at first base, Lawrie at 3rd and Saladino at second. Abreu can DH along with Morneau. 1. Abreu could run circles around Konerko. That's not even debatable. 2. You're right, he's not 28, he's 29. 3. Abreu has a .307/.353/.490 slash line since June 1. Not amazing, but pretty good.

QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) I completely forgot the 2009 Yankees... I hadn't remembered the Yankees winning one in quite awhile. So I guess... on our 40 man roster we have 5 players with playoff experience. I guess that's probably common on many bad/mediocre teams. Not sure if it changes my initial "narrative" - we don't have many players who have experienced winning/know how to win at the big league level. Navarro Frazier Cabrera Jackson Garcia Avila Morneau Gonzalez Shields Robertson So that's 40% of what our 25 man will be when Avila and Jackson are back. So basically the majority of the vets that Hahn brought all had prior postseason experience.
-
Claiming that Reinsdorf is a billionaire because of the White Sox stadium lease might be the most asinine thing I've ever read on here.
-
QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Neither Avila and Jackson are playing. Shields hasn't been here very long. Cabrera was suspended for the last couple months and didn't play in the post season. The Yankees never won anything when Roberston was there. So maybe ... a little bit there.. but still pretty thin. You're only discounting Shields, Avila and Jackson's playoff experience because it doesn't fit the narrative. And you obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about because Melky and Robertson were both on the 2009 Yankees that won the World Series. Robertson also pitched in 3 other postseasons and Melky was also in the playoffs 2 other times with the Yankees and once with the Braves.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) Avila and Jackson made the playoffs four consective seasons. Shields in 2008 and 2014...in the World Series. Robertson with the Yankees when he could throw 96-98. Cabrera with the Giants. Morneau and Gonzalez have played in the playoffs multiple seasons as well.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) Reports out there that the Dodgers are open to trading Puig for another corner OF. Eaton for Puig straight up? Or am I dreaming? A Gold Glove caliber right fielder on pace for 5+ fWAR this year with 5 years of team control left on a severely below market deal for a guy playing at basically replacement level who is a prima donna with just 2 years left of team control? I usually back Hahn but if he made that he would and should be fired on the spot.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 03:01 AM) He's getting showcased for a trade I bet. Weird timing considering he hasn't earned the promotion with his performance either. They arent going to showcase him by bringing him out of the pen, that makes no sense and with the way hes been pitching he absolutely earned a promotion.
