QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) Albert Belle was pretty disappointing. Viciedo was only disappointing if you didn't look at his minor league stats. He's never shown himself to be an impact player, at any level. How was Albert Belle disappointing? His average stat line in his 6 full seasons with Cleveland: .300/.377/.594, 39HRs, 36 2B, 118 RBI His average stat line in his 2 full seasons with White Sox: .301/.368/.571, 40 HRs, 46 2B, 134 RBI

Game Thread- Orioles @ Sox 7:10 PM CT

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Oh great it's Bruce Chen night. No -
If we are looking to add a left handed bat, I would look into Rasmus. Not only does he have decent pop, but he plays pretty good defense. This would allow the Sox to DH Viciedo should they keep him. A starting OF of Rasmus, Eaton and Garcia looks pretty good to me. Hopefully Rasmus's cost has gone down due to his subpar season. If he would have been a free agent after last year, he would have gotten big time bucks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 1h Top college arm in '14 draft (Rodon, AAA, White Sox) now pitching at higher level than top college arm in '13 draft (Appel, AA, Astros). Still awfully early in his career and he's still pretty young, but Appel has pretty much been garbage so far.

Adam Dunn retiring after this year?
lasttriptotulsa replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) The question is, is it worth the huge paycut to him? Valid point, and it's hard to know how somebody that already has that much money thinks, but $5+ million is still a hell of a lot of money. -
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Yup. He'd be a good fit as well. Might be expensive though, as he's having a great (theoretically "un-aided") season- currently at .316/.369/.479. That's my biggest issue with Cabrera. You just never know. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) I can that. The 160 may have been reasonable depending on how long he missed and his max limit prior to the injury. His long term health should be the priority. I didn't think the limit was necessarily that low but I think they could have gone about it smarter and had him skip a few starts throughout the season. If they skipped him 3 times that would be another 20 innings he could have pitched in the playoffs.

Adam Dunn retiring after this year?
lasttriptotulsa replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He'll definitely have a job next year if he wants one. He has a .258/.383/.546 slash away from the cell this year. Somebody will be willing to take a chance on him. I honestly don't think he'll have to settle for a platoon role either. Most teams aren't getting s*** out of their DH spot and the .800 OPS he can put up would like real good to a lot of teams. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Is Melky Cabrera available? I'd love to see him in LF next year. I'd like to see them take a shot at Rasmus. With his down year, I would have to think his price dropped dramatically.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) This sounds reasonable. Wasn't the Strasburg controversy over a 180 inning limit? They shut him down at 159.1. He didn't pitch after September 7th and didn't pitch in the playoffs. I think that's what was the problem to a lot of people is that 160 seems low and it could have really cost them a shot in the playoffs.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) Very true. He will not make 33 starts next year. I'm not sure what is max innings was in college but he will be on an inning limit. You can't go too far over a recent max inning level too far in a single year. He threw 132.2 in 2013 and 98.2 in 2014. With his college, MiLB, and MLB innings this year, he should end up right around 150. I think it would be perfectly reasonable to expect him to start 26 or 27 games next year and end around 170-180 innings. He would then be set up good to go for 200 in 2016 when the Sox should for sure be ready to compete.

Buehrle apologizes for tipping cap

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) Believe me I'm majorly against PEDs, killed the sport, but the early 00's up until about 10-12 were some great times for baseball, BOS-NYY games were nationally must watches, something that ESPN must learn doesn't interest us anymore, I also think Manny will be HOF no doubt and Ortiz and definitely Pujols, Jeter, and Griffey, I think the likes of Bonds, Clemens, McGuire, Sosa, Sheffield, etc will never see the HOF however, which I agree with The days of talented all time great hitters like Manny, Griffey, Ortiz, Thome, Jeter, are better than Trout, Puig, and Harper, (Yes I know Manny was suspended, and Ortiz cheated but not as severe as Bonds and Clemens) anyone agree with me? Anyone notice how young the MLB got too over the last 2 years, all the All-Stars are in there early to mid 20's Zero chance Manny gets in. He was busted twice and is one positive test away from a permanent ban. Ortiz has a shot because everybody just likes to forget about his failed test it seems. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) Bagwell and Piazza may have difficulty due to the PED rumors. I think they're both close enough that they will eventually get there. The PED rumors aren't affecting them nearly as much as Clemons and Bonds as both were well ahead of them on this year's ballot. Piazza went from 57.8% to 62.2% this year even with the loaded class so I think he is well on his way. Bagwell has gone from 41.7% to as high as 59.6% in his 4 years. This year he dropped slightly but it was clearly due to the loaded ballot. Piazza is pretty much a lock and the only thing that will hurt Bagwell at this point is the new 10 year rule. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) At least 50-75% or more of the players today aren't using steroids. From that era, the only hitters who are going to make the Hall of Fame are Thomas, Griffey, Jr., Jeter and Omar Vizquel. Ichiro and David Ortiz are going to be questionable for different reasons, although Ichiro definitely deserves it if you consider his entire body of work career-wise. Then Pujols, who has a ton of questions surrounding him as well. There's a lot more than that that will get in. Chipper Jones, Biggio and Thome are locks. Bagwell, Piazza, Edgar Martinez and Vlad Guerrero should all get in as well at some point. -
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) If he hits 290/350/480 with 40 doubles he'll be worth roughly 4 war assuming his other tools develop a bit more defensively and on the bases. He might never be much of a power hitter, but a poor man's Mags wouldn't be bad either. Assuming 550 ABs, to achieve a .480 SLG with a .290 AVG and 40 2Bs would still require him to hit around 20 homers. If he gets 600 ABs, it would require about 25 HRs. I don't think anybody would complain if he hit 20-25 HRs next year. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Leave him down. It isn't worth wasting a year of service to have him pitch on this team. If you want him to get more innings, send him to AFL or the winter leagues. If they are willing to call him at the end of this year, then I assume that means they are going to want him on the opening day roster next year. If that is the case, his pitching in September really does not cost the Sox any service time.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) I could support that. I also remember a pretty good offense in the mid 2000's that had Carlos Lee, Paul Konerko, Magglio, Frank Thomas, etc. If you have good hitters, you can get by. Would you like a lefty sure, but you shouldn't just sign a lesser player because he's a lefty. You can try to be creative to find that guy. For whatever reason I keep wondering if Carlos Gonzalez is a guy they are looking at. Those great Sox lineups in the early to mid 2000s also had Jose Valentin who averaged 24 homers from the left side between 2000-2004.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) Seems they're really shopping Dunn hard right now. No Viciedo two days in a row. Certainly part of it's the fact that Danks HAS to play CF out there in SF, DeAza would be a disaster with that much ground to cover. I don't think it's necessarily showcasing Dunn, it's just Dunn's offense + defense > Viciedo's offense + defense. -
Avisail Garcia reportedly to join Sox next Tues (8/19)

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) I believe there are some restrictions. If you send a guy down, I do not believe you are allowed to immediately call him back up unless there is an injury that occurs. I think Danks can technically only be called up another 5 or 6 times this year. A player can't be recalled for 10 days after being sent down unless, like you said, there is an injury. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) How many options does Danks have left? He's like the yo yo of this team. It all depends on when he was put on the 40 man roster. It is considered an option year if a player on the 40 man roster is in the minor leagues for a minimum 20 days. If I were guessing, I would say Danks was put on the 40 man in 2012 so this year would be the last of his option years. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) So who is gone? Dunn gone by then? DeAza DFA? Danks? I think it will be Danks and De Aza will just play CF for the rest of the month until September call ups. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) That homer he hit off Guardado was awesome. I remember freaking out in my living room at the time. Thomas came up the next inning, hit a long one foul and then hit a long one fair. I remember that game like it was yesterday. It was just shortly after the Everett and Alomar acquisitions and after this game I remember thinking that the Sox really had a shot that year. Also one of my favorite Frank Thomas at bats. He went down 0-2 and worked the count full while hitting several hard foul balls including the homerun distance one you mention. Wish I could find video of it.
