2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) There goes Cahill to the Dbacks. One more chip has fallen. Yankees, Rangers, Red, Red Sox and maybe Marlins and Nationals still looking for pitching. Darvish, Shields, Neimann/Wade Davis, Garza, Gio, Danks, Floyd names being floated. You figure eventually someones coming to KW for a SP There's also Edwin Jackson out there, who gets overlooked. Oswalt as well. I think the Nats land one of Oswalt and Jackson. Red Sox are my pick for Joe Saunders. Certainly the SP market is bloated right now. I can't recall seeing it this flush with options. -
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) I posted this trade a few days ago in a different thread: "Floyd and Thornton + $2M for Jarrod Parker, Adam Eaton, and Ryan Wheeler." I hope this means the A's are holding onto Gio. I would think that means they're more likely to deal Gio. Beane will deal him if he gets what he wants. I think thats a piss poor return for Cahill tho. I love Parker but I thought they could of gotten more.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) If they lose Fielder, they could definitely use Konerko. Well if Fielder goes to the Marlins Sanchez is on the block. If goes to the M's, Smoak will be. Angels have Trumbo and Morales who are expendable. There's Pena and Lee on the market as well. You won't get much for PK. Might as well keep him to sell tickets this year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 01:32 AM) Wow did the Brewers screw up by offering KRod their arbitration. Basically is going to end up costing them the chance to sign Aramis Ramirez and Latroy Hawkins. Also, it looks bad for KW when Hawkins signs for less than what Frasor will get. Hawkins is signing with the Angels. Brewers could deal K-Rod to the Red Sox for Scutaro tho. That would solve their SS problem and they could still go after A-Ram.

QUOTE (striker @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I think it's funny how Yankees fans and scouts hype up Banuelos and he had a WHIP of like 1.6 last year. While Molina is "at best a #3 or #4 starter" and he had a WHIP close to 1. You look at stuff, not stats when you grade a minor leaguer. Molina is 22 and in Double-A while Manny is 20 and was in Triple-A. Huge difference there if you know it or not.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Gavin Floyd and Jordan Danks to Arizona for Gerardo Parra and Patrick Corbin/Wade Miley. The DBacks could take Danks in the Rule 5 draft for $50,000
-
Betances over Banuelos? I haven't seen that before, but I'll take your words on it. Yeah the FO basically loves Manny. Yankees have a lot of depth and for once its spread out through the system. I'd deal Betances for Danks but I wouldn't give up too much more, something like George Kontos who should be a useful 7th inning type pitcher and Jorge Vazquez who has HUGE power but he's like 28 or 29.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Or the Sox could maybe get Banuelos in there, but remove Sanchez/Murphy (replace with JR Murhpy-Catcher) ... just tossing ideas out there The Yankees as you mention have a couple OFs plus a few interesting middle infield specs. I do believe there is a fit with the Yankees involving Danks and we wouldn't need to touch ANY of their top 5 prospects. Given that Danks is coming into his last year that's an argument to be made. Kenny asking for Montero and Banuelos is high comedy, although I like the go-for it idea...don't really know unless you ask. -edited for proper spelling- I don't want to sound like a douche but the Yankees wouldn't do Banuelos for Danks straight up. The M's were thinking about Banuelos and Nunez for Lee and the Yankees offered them Montero instead along with Adams and McAllister in that now famous non-trade. The Yankees think the world of Banuelos, heck even Mariano called him the greatest prospect he's seen since he came up and Mo never really talks about the uoung guys other than a token he's going to be good, he's got good stuff, etc. the Middle INF spects you speak of, you mean Culver, Gumbs and the GCL crowd? Since they really don't have much else in the upper levels sans Adams and CoJo.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Seems like Gio being available is really holding things up on the Danks front. It was said that KW was asking the Yankees for Banuelos and Montero. I would accept a package without those guys in it. The Yankees have some intriguing names. If Gio gets dealt somewhere else would the Yankees part with a package headlined by Betances? What would be a realistic package in return for Danks? I would love Betances, Gary Sanchez and Hector Noesi but even that may be unrealistic. They also have OF's Mason Williams, Slade Heathcoate, and Dante Bichette JR. Sanchez is basically Montero just 3 years younger and he has a better chance of catching. Bichette is a 3B. It's actually Heathcott. You forgot Ravel Santana who is our only five tool prospect in the system and a legit five tool prospect at that. I doubt they'd consider that, the Yankees FO people like Noesi more than Nova. Noesi is throwing 97 mph now after tweaking his delivery this fall. You can have Betances though.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) Instantly our best SP prospect Not to make you upset but thats not saying much...

You guys are only supposed to be raped by Cashman, ughhh I hate Kenny Williams.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) Absolutely not. As Balta mentioned, that will just add to our, plus we will lose Petricka. Not worth it. Hmm yeah I thought Peavy was signed up for two more years. Not that I would want him, but I just think maybe a change of places would help both of those guys. -

Would you guys do Jake Peavy and RHP Jacob Petricka for AJ Burnett? AJ is good for innings and can be a good pitcher in certain month(s) of the year. The Yankees had drafted Petricka a few years ago if I'm not mistaken, he's a bullpen arm. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Whoa. I like Gardner. But let's not get it twisted. A BIG bulk of his value comes from playing an outstanding LF. He's not better than any of the guys you named. I'm just throwing out the names of the guys who he has better WARs than. Is he better than Kemp? no. but I'd want more than Danks for him also you need to consider he's got a lot more years left of control. Besides Gardner will never be traded unless Girardi is fired.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 12:17 AM) I've been lusting over Gardner for a while now. I want to see Danks for Gardner + prospect trade. LOL. If we are trading Gardner I'd want more than just Danks coming back... Do you realize just how good Gardner is? The past two years Gardner has a better WAR than Curtis Granderson, Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, Jose Reyes, and Prince Fielder to name a few. He was the 13th best positional player in baseball.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) I don't know much about the minor leagues as a whole, let alone the Yankees' minor leagues, but it seems like the Yankees have a top 3 system with the way you've written about it. They're about 6th or 7th. A lot of their talent is in lower levels... Santana, Williams, Sanchez. So yeah that really hurts when you rank systems. They've got a few pieces in Triple-A and Double-A... Warren, Banuelos, Betances, Mitchell, Almonte and Phelps but not much else and nothing at all in High A. (using last years rosters obviously 2012 players will advance)
-
Here's a list of the Yankees top prospects... http://topprospectalert.com/2011/11/17/201...spect-rankings/ This guy is a bit too heavy on just looking at stats though. I actually go and see them play at SI, Scranton and Trenton. Thats SS, Triple-A and Double-A a lot so I know a bit more. My own list would be If you want to get a better look at who you should target... Montero - I'm sure you know about him. Banuelos - lefty, he's short and throws about mid 90s so he gets Johan comps a lot and he's small and basically a bulldog on the mound with really good control so he gets Maddux comps a lot. I would say both of those are best case but either way Banuelos is going to be at least a very good no 2 starter, could very well be a no 1. Short of an Ace though. Betances - Manny is short where Dellin is tall. Dellin throws fast and hard, but his control isn't too good, although it's gotten better as he decreaed his velo this year and started to pitch and not throw, when he throws he's like Daniel Cabrera, when he pitches... he's unhittable. I think he's like AJ Burnett, he could be very good or very bad. Sanchez - Basically like an upgraded Montero. He's got better power, better hitting abilities, better defense(which he still doesn't have great defense) and faster but still not fast haha. Williams - You could be looking at a top 20 prospect next year. This guy is a pure athlete, something the Yankees haven't had in their system for at least ten years. Very exciting player. Santana - If it wasn't for a brutal ankle injury, Santana would probably be a top 100 prospect right now. He's a true five tool player where that term gets thrown around a lot. This guy has a ton of potentional, just hope he can get back healthy. You're not going to get Banuelos or Montero for Thorton or Danks so don't even begin to think that. Williams and Santana are far away, in SS and GCL. So... yeah I seriously doubt Kenny Williams will center a deal around one of those and Mark Newman and Cashman are both extremely high on those two guys. Phelps, Warren and DJ Mitchell are three guys who are knocking on the door in Triple-A, they are nice arms and I think if a deal went down at least one of those three will be in the deal. Phelps just finished the year strong in AFL. Warren my favorite of the three could be a no 3 or 4 starter. Mitchell I would love to see as the long man out of our pen. I'm willing to bet my balls that Cashman wouldn't go after Thornton if the price was more than Romine. A guy I could see you going after is the Mexican Babe Ruth, Jorge Vazquez as a third or foruth piece in a deal.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Take a look at what the Yankees bullpen is bringing from the LH side of the mound. Boooooooone Logan. Looking at a world of Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, etc., they could have used an other bullpen lefty this year. Robertson, Soriano and Mo all killed lefties. Logan wasn't that great but he got the job done in the second half.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_sports...MMrLlzOukvv1N/1 I just heard the rumor on the radio but saw this article just now Thats a few days old and talks about Romine going for Danks, not Thornton.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Presuming that Romine doesn't need anymore minor league time? He kind of does tho... he hasn't even been exposed really to Triple-A yet. He def needs a few months there, IMO.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) I've yet to read or talk to a reputable source that believe Montero will be a long term fixture at catcher. Check out Frankie Piliere's work.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) Not sure what the Yankees will do with him. Might treat him like the Victor Martinez of late. I believe most scouts believe he's a future DH. The bat could be f***ing ridiculous though. Montero isn't that bad at catcher... he really learned a lot this year from Tony Pena in ST and reports were he greatly improved his defense but theres still a lot of work to do. He's only 21. anyway... I don't see any noise of this trade anyway so I doubt it's true.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) You pretty much just defined "panicked". It's not he did anything extreme.... he added something around 750K extra per year and another year to the deal.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 10:01 AM) I'd rather have Sanchez than Romine. Don't understand the fascination with him. Ah someone who knows a bit about prospects. I agree, I don't like Romine, probably why I'd do a deal with him in it... haha. Sanchez got a bad wrap on him cause he left the team after going through a rough patch, but he's 18 considered to be even better than Montero was at that age and is a millionaire. I'd have attitude problems too if I was in his shoes.
