  1. ACC is a better conference in hoops, but Big Ten is also very strong. Pretty clearly the 2nd best conference this year. The gap is much wider in other sports.
  2. He's not one of the biggest assholes of all time because he retired, he's one of the biggest assholes of all time because of the mess he stirred up in the process of retiring.
  3. Everybody should watch the last two episodes of Season 6 of The West Wing. I know it's fiction, but it's not too far off from the kind of stuff that might actually happen (sans the sitting President getting involved).
  4. That's a pretty bad abuse of statistics there. They are averaging two polls, one of which is from 2/18-21. The 3/20-22 poll should be weighted more, possibly up near 100%.
  5. Outside of Michigan, hockey is pretty down right now at the other schools.
  6. Big Ten is a really weak conference outside of football and men's basketball. ACC provides much better competition in soccer, baseball, lacrosse and pretty much all of the women's sports.
  7. For government employees on travel, the per diem rate varies from $51-74, depending on location. Gotta be tough for those baseball players to make it on $100/day, especially since one meal per day is provided in the clubhouse.
  8. Was about to say something similar. Get him a role in the touring company for Spamalot.
  9. 1) Win more games than the other AL Central teams 2) Win the Division Series 3) Win the Championship Series
  10. As long as he feels OK after pitching, I'm not worried about performance . . . yet.
  11. If he just got added to the 40 in December, then he had the full compliment of options remaining. They must have really, really not liked him to DFA him before even using up one of his option years.
  12. Valpo and BYU headed to MSG.
  13. Sure it is. How often does a catcher have to leave a game? An average of 1-2 times per year. In the off chance that the 2nd catcher is in that game at DH, you can have one of the other guys catch a few innings. Or if it's late enough in the game to where you are about to or already have pulled your starter, you can just move the 2nd catcher to DH and pinch hit each time the pitcher's spot comes up.
  14. Jamie Dixon leaving Pitt for TCU. I get that it's his alma mater, but that's quite a step down. Pitt alum Sean Miller not interested in leaving Arizona. Who does Pitt go after? Archie Miller, Bryce Drew, King Rice, Gregg Marshal. Someone else?
  15. Reddick's the only one who really interests me, but I wouldn't give up Anderson for him so I don't know what kind of middle IF they would want. Already game them Semien.
  16. Don't like the PAT rule. With all the FGs the game is already too dependent on kickers. Now we have teams losing games because of missed PATs. My rule would be that you can just have the 7th point for free--no play of any kind necessary, or you can put the ball down at the 2 yard line and go for 2.
  17. My sister lived very hard for a very long time and died at 35 because of it. I did what I could to try to help her get out of it, but when she refused, I refused to allow my kids to become close to their aunt because I knew she wouldn't be around much longer.
  18. People can describe Garland as a centrist all they want. The chart is looking at things analytically, and Garland is as far left of center as Aliso is right of center. The Republicans know they are an underdog to win in November. If they really thought Garland was a lot closer to the center than what they would get from Hilllary, they would confirm him.
  19. Based on the NY Times chart, Garland is as far from the middle as Alito. I don't agree with the Senate summarily rejecting any nominee, but based on Obama's past words and actions, I think it's reasonable to force him to find a nominee closer to the center.
  20. I'm not dead set on making excuses for the GOP. I'm dead set against both parties changing their tune when the other party is in charge. The Republicans are hypocrites just as much as the Democrats, but you reap what you sow. Obama in 2006: "I am concerned that President Bush has wasted an opportunity to appoint a consensus nominee in the mold of Sandra Day O'Connor and has instead made a selection to appease the far right-wing of the Republican Party." Obama in 2016: Nominates somebody much farther left than O'Connor. [http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/02/18/upshot/potential-for-the-most-liberal-supreme-court-in-decades.html?_r=0]
  21. I'm not talking about the Democrats. I'm talking about Biden, Clinton, Obama and Reid. Those four voted to block the nomination process from going forward. Those four have no standing to complain about anybody else blocking a nomination process from going forward. Doesn't really matter if the process gets blocked in committee hearings or in a cloture vote. This is why you shouldn't make "show" votes. You're on the record with your vote. Don't come out now and say you only voted for it because you knew it would fail.
  22. Sure, posturing. If they had anywhere close to the 40 votes to prevent cloture, I'm sure those four would all have come to their senses and allowed a vote.
  23. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Harry Reid were four of the 25 Senators who voted against the cloture motion that allowed the nomination to come to a vote. So not nearly the same thing only because of other people, not because of those four. So, those four have made the bed that they now have to lie in. Karma is a b****.
