There are very rarely witnesses. It usually comes down to secondary signs of assault beyond the DNA evidence, such as cuts/bruises. -

Yes, USA is in the GoD almost by definition, since they're the one team in that last pot that's actually good. Not saying that the other teams can't pull an upset or something, but USA is the team everybody in the other pots want to avoid. Now, if we get super lucky and get Switzerland/Russia/Cameroon while Costa Rica gets Brazil/Italy/France, then maybe we're not in the GoD, but those chances are pretty slim. -

Not that there was any drama left, but the WC field became official after last night's Uruguay-Jordan match. The seeded teams have already been announced, and based on the way the pots have been done in the past, I think this is how it will go: Pot 1: Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay, Switzerland Pot 2: Italy, Netherlands, England, Portugal, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Russia Pot 3: Chile, Ivory Coast, France, Ecuador, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon Pot 4: USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia The draw is December 6. I understand that putting the CONCACAF teams and AFC teams in the same pot works because there are exactly 8 total teams, but this system is very unfair to CONCACAF. Asia has by far the lowest average ranking of any confederation, and CONCACAF teams do not have a chance to be drawn into a group with any of them. -

Big difference between two friends doing it to the alleged victim and the police doing it to the alleged victim. But I guess when your team hasn't won a conference game in forever, all you can do is paint others with a broad brush. -
A much thinner and less expensive albatross than Fielder would have been, plus the added bonus of playing a position that isn't clogged.
-
Seems like an absolute steal for the Tigers, even if they have to eat $30-40M. Kinsler is a good bat at a position where good bats are very hard to find. Fielder is getting older and slower and plays a position where bats are more plentiful.

I can't believe I'm going to defend a player from FSU of all places, but I think that rule is crap. It is very easy for a woman to make up a sexual assault claim. That's why we have a justice system, to sort out what is and isn't true. And yes, sometimes the guy is guilty and gets off, but the worst thing you can have happen is have a made up claim ruin a player and his team. Imagine the Duke lacrosse deal, but in a sport that more than five people care about. Now, I'm not saying that if there's overwhelming evidence, that you have to let the guy keep competing until it gets all they way through to the end of the trial, but this kind of policy where you're automatically booted based on charges is dangerous. It can also lead to local law enforcement being very hesitant to press charges when they should be. -

So what if he ends up suspended for a bowl game, but FSU is still 13-0? The computer rankings certainly won't make any sort of adjustments. Will enough voters move FSU down far enough to allow OSU or Baylor to pass them? -
DeAza - probably not Santiago - most definitely. He is a pre-arb lefty with 200+ innings at an ERA+ over 120. It's extremely rare that somebody like that is ever available. It's the extreme depth of Sox pitching plus the extreme dearth of Sox hitting that makes them even consider trading somebody like that.

Also Trayce Thompson.

Going all in with a low pair (if we are assuming preflop here) is a much better gamble than long term free agent deals.
-
Nobody wants a low payroll in 2014 so the owners can make more profit. People want a low payroll in 2014 so there will be more available to spend in 2015 when the team will hopefully be in a position to contend. If I have a choice between spending $100M in 2014 and $105M in 2015, or spending $90M in 2014 and $115M in 2015, I'm going to choose the latter, because there is almost zero chance that this team can compete spending $100M in 2014.

Just discovered that while my cable company does carry NBC Sports Network and I get it at home, my cable company does not provide mobile access to NBCSN for some reason so I do not get to watch US-Austria. No score at 9' as best as I can tell. In the Euro qualifiers, Greece up 1-0 (with +2 already in the bank) and Croatia up 1-0 (even first leg). -
Yeah, I was speaking in more general terms and not specifically about this case.
-
I don't think anybody (or at least, very few people) are OK with these kinds of encounters being fatal, but there's a difference between that and whether or not somebody should hold criminal liability for the fatality.

There was a PI call in the Bears game where the ball landed nearly 10 yards beyond the end line. I'm still trying to figure out how that ball was catchable, yet I didn't notice anybody on the Bears sideline complaining, nor did the announcers mention it.
-
It can't be that hard--Kentucky is making it work.
-
Broncos. Bears defense still sucks.
