White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
If the Yankees eat enough salary, he can become a utility infielder the last 2-3 years or maybe he'll just retire.

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
Do the Sox get some time to work on that or do they have to submit their opening day roster tomorrow?

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
This is why Sox attendance sucks--their fans expect to be able to sign elite pitchers for middle reliver salaries.

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
Source was the Press Release issued by the Sox. I'm guessing it's true.

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
Peavy still gets his $4M buyout but it is deferred until after the end of the contract.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Schools can make scholarships contingent on graduating from their school, and force the student to repay if he/she doesn't. I don't know how many schools actually do that, but they could if they wanted to.

AJ files for FA
I think the #1 priority is to either retain Youkilis or find a good replacement and the #2 priority is to retain Peavy. If there is enough dough left in the cash register to pay AJ after those two things are done, that's great. If not, I'm OK with taking a chance on Flowers.

Nobody forces you to watch ESPN if you don't like their content. My life is filled with other channels or stuff from the DVR while ESPN is running Tebowmania and Heat Index.

AJ files for FA
20-25 HRs probably puts his SLG at about .425 so that's an OPS of about .750 which isn't terrible for a catcher. I wouldn't be surprised if Flowers did that, I wouldn't be surprised if he was 100 points worse than that, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was 100 points better than that. He clearly has the potential, but potential isn't a sure thing.

Obama should have used that excuse for the first debate. Would have been a better excuse than altitude.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
There used to be some subjectivity in what was in bounds via the force-out rule. There were too many complaints that the refs weren't being consistent, so the rule was changed and now it's 100% objective. In a game whose TV ratings are fueled by massive amounts of gambling, the NFL is going to make rules LESS subjective, not MORE.

Wait a minute, if you catch another guy who catches the ball, that's a catch, right?

ALL CELEBRATEEEEEEEE
Since leaving Chicago I have lived near DC and Cincinnati, and I do root for those teams, though the Sox are still far and away my favorite team. It's easier though since those teams are NL teams. I don't think I'd root for another AL team, and definitely not another AL Central team. I think one of the reasons the Cubs get the majority of the transplant fans is that a lot of them are coming to Chicago from other AL Central areas, especially Michigan, so they adopt the Cubs as their favorite Chicago team since it doesn't conflict with their home team.

Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread
I know there are Missouri fans here, so I thought I'd pass along that down here there are a lot of people thinking that Kentucky wins tomorrow. I'm thinking they need to stick to basketball, but then I haven't seen either team play this year.

Rick Hahn the new GM
Got a chuckle out of these back-to-back posts, even though the second one really wasn't about the first one.

Rick Hahn the new GM
I don't see that as being very likely. Hahn would certainly have gotten a GM job somewhere else within the next year or two. I don't think giving him the title of GM without the power is going to keep him from pursuing those other jobs. It seems from what has been said publicly that KW is going to be taking over a lot of duties from JR, so he isn't going to have time to be puppetmaster on top of that.
