  1. Verlander is their most irreplaceable player and I actually might rate Jackson second ahead of Cabrera/Fielder.
  2. I did find a couple old articles from the Orlando Sentinel from AJ's Twins days that mention AJ having a stepfather named Jack Harrelson. No mention of Jack being related to Hawk, but this is before AJ was on the Sox so it wouldn't necessarily come up. There's also the Orlando connection. If I had to guess, I'd say that Jack is either a cousin or nephew of Hawk. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2002-1...zynski-clermont http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2002-0...american-league
  3. Really seems to only be one week a month where rooting for the BJs does any good.
  4. It was a pretty generous strike zone last night, which I say favors the Sox against most teams, because other than Youk and Dunn, Sox hitters are swinging at pretty much everything anyway and aren't much affected by an ump's strike zone.
  5. Yankees and Rangers are also both significantly better vs RHP than LHP, so that bodes well for the Sox in the postseason that they could have 3/4 of the playoff rotation being left-handed, and still have 3 lefties to spare in the bullpen.
  6. AL Ranks: Innings: Hernandez 1 Verlander 2 Price 5 Sale 15 Weaver 19 Wins: Price 1 Weaver 1 Sale 3 Hernandez 7 Verlander 7 WHIP: Weaver 1 Verlander 2 Sale 3 Hernandez 4 Price 5 ERA: Price 1 Verlander 2 Hernandez 3 Sale 4 Weaver 5 K/9: Verlander 4 Price 6 Sale 7 Hernandez 10 Weaver 22 K/BB: Sale 1 Verlander 3 Hernandez 5 Weaver 11 Price 12 I'd say it's very close between Price, Verlander, and Sale, with Hernandez a bit behind them and Weaver a bit farther behind. Sale's biggest detriment is his innings count. 20 extra innings is a lot of added value when comparing guys whose other stats are similar.
  7. Last night on the ESPN Broadcast. Dave O'Brien: We've seen the Yankees quite a bit this year . . . No s***, Dave. Really? I think you've seen about half their games.
  8. AL Best Record: Texas NY Yankees -½ Tampa Bay -3½ SOX -4 AL Central: SOX Detroit -2 AL Wild Card: Tampa Bay +1½ Oakland Baltimore -½ Detroit -1 LA Angels -1½ 8/23 Games: TOR @ DET 1:05 LAA @ BOS 7:10 OAK @ TB 7:10 MIN @ TEX 8:05
  9. He bought some cheeseburgers from an online site in the DR that were unknowingly laced with testosterone.
  10. Beckham's OPS by month: April .434 May .745 June .744 July .501 August .695 Overall, not a very good year, but a two-month stretch that is more than acceptable for a 2B with his glove. Definitely not ready to give up on him, especially since there really isn't a feasible replacement. As an added bonus, his poor last two seasons will make him cheap in arbitration.
  11. I think it's easy for us to sit here and judge, but I can say that if I were famous and spent that many nights a year away from home, not cheating would not be as easy as it is now.
  12. I'm married with young children and haven't done 'nightlife' in a while, so I can't speak from personal experience, but there are three main areas: 1) Downtown on 4th street. http://www.4thstlive.com/ 2) The Highlands, a little SE of downtown at Baxter Ave/Bardstown Rd. http://www.thehighlandsoflouisville.com/ 3) St. Matthews, a little farther E of downtown on US60.

  14. Per ESPN Radio, last night Youk became the first player since 1954 to hit a grand slam for and against the same team in the same season.
  15. Ibanez, Martin, Teixeira, Granderson and Swisher all with pretty poor career numbers vs Liriano.

  17. I figure that after Paulie is gone, Dunn and Viciedo are the 1B/DH in some combination, though Viciedo has been much better in LF than I was expecting so maybe he can stick there.
  18. We don't usually start hearing about the next year's schedule until mid-September. Did MLB get the schedule done earlier this year or did a Guillen offspring's big fat mouth just leak information earlier than he was supposed to?
  19. No, I mean other than the rivalry series, one of the other series has to be four games in order to get 20 games out of six series.
  20. Any particular kind of food you're interested in? I live just north of Louisville and I can recommend some places.
  21. So ESPN is saying that it's 5 series against a division and then four games against a rivalry team. Either one of those five series is a four-gamer, or ESPN is bad at math.
  22. Danks is 26. Doesn't really matter whether or not they used one of his three option years this year. If you need to use an option on him when he's 30 then he's not really worth keeping.
  23. AL Best Record: NY Yankees Texas -½ Tampa Bay -4 AL Central: SOX Detroit -2 AL Wild Card: Tampa Bay +2 Baltimore Oakland -½ Detroit -1½ LA Angels -4 8/21 Games: TOR @ DET 7:05 LAA @ BOS 7:10 KC @ TB 7:10 BAL @ TEX 8:05 NYY @ SOX 8:10 MIN @ OAK 10:05
