MLB apparently doesn't realize how much they are killing baseball. The lifting of local blackouts for Monday/Wednesday games and the relaxing of restrictions on how frequently teams can be on Sunday night both add up to even more Yankees games on ESPN. Aside from the problem of making the fans of the other 29 teams hating the Yankees even more, there is the larger problem in that FOX has the World Series, and in the 75% of years that the Yankees don't make the World Series, their ratings are terrible because ESPN has been showing nothing but Yankees all season, and then the networks all use the low World Series ratings as evidence that nobody cares about the other 29 teams and show the Yankees even more.

Thursday's game between Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech at Shreveport has been postponed to October 13 due to Hurricane Isaac. Lucky for both schools that they had the same bye week. Tulane is supposed to play Rutgers Saturday in the Superdome and I have a hard time seeing that one getting played.

This is entirely speculation, but I'm going to guess that most, if not all of the WCIU games are games that are the exact same time as Cubs games, meaning that the ratings expectation is quite a bit lower than for the average Sox game. CSN may have agreed to let WCIU buy the rights to those games, and in doing so, WCIU gets leverage in trying to get their station on more cable/satellite systems.

I would think that April-May would get more games on WCIU due to overlap with the NBA and NHL seasons.

Another reason to do it that way: Orioles only have a +5 point OPS differential vs RHP compared to LHP, while the Tigers have a +61 point differential. So if you have a choice, you want to throw the righty against the O's and the lefty against the Tigers.

Most LH hitters have more extreme platoon splits than RH hitters, not to mention that there are plenty of RH hitters who actually hit RH pitchers better. I don't remember which thread, but I looked up the platoon splits for this season and most of the playoff contenders as a team hit RH pitchers much better than LH pitchers, so I don't think having four lefty starters is a problem at all.

.629 is a hard winning percentage to achieve, even for a good team with a favorable schedule.

If there's a team that wants to make a tangible offer for Flowers to be there starter, great. If not, he sits behind AJ for two more years before he gets his chance. Maybe in 2014 when Paulie's gone, AJ can play some DH and Tyler can get more playing time.
