Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread

None of those schools are of any use to ND. DePaul, Marquette - ND is already big in the Midwest, especially Chicago. Georgetown, Providence, St. John's - Maryland, BC, and Syracuse provide access to the same markets. Plus the ACC gives ND access in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Also, ACC has seven top 50 schools academically, the Big East has one. -
So they are changing from 18 games per year vs each division opponent to 19 games. That's 4 more games per year against division opponents. That's 2.5% of the schedule that is switching to division games. Hardly worth complaining about.

Dan Johnson's last 476 AB in AAA (2012): .879 OPS Jordan Danks' last 218 AB in AAA (2012): .945 OPS Dan Johnson's last 91 AB in MLB (2011-12): .443 OPS Jordan Danks' last 57 AB in MLB (2012): .556 OPS If you aren't willing to start Danks over Youkilis or Konerko, then you sure as hell shouldn't be willing to start Johnson over Youkilis or Konerko.

In a game where the offense had two f***ing hits through seven innings, please don't tell me the loss is the fault of the manager or the pitchers. If you take out the 18-9 loss to Minnesota, the offense is averaging 3.67 runs per game in September.

I have a very strong feeling that this series will not end up 2-2. The team that wins tonight will also win tomorrow.
-
You have to remember that those splits are AVERAGES. That does not mean that a terrible LH/SW hitter like Johnson, Hudson or Olmedo is going to fare better than a good RH hitter like Youk or Konerko. You might be able to sell me on starting Danks over Viciedo, but no way do I want to see Johnson, Hudson, or Olmedo starting against any pitcher no matter what his splits are.
-
I can't imagine too many teams are much better than that.

Yom Kippur runs from sunset on Sept. 25 to sunset on Sept. 26, so moving the Sept. 25 game to the afternoon and leaving the Sept. 26 game in the evening avoids playing during the holiday.

There is another coach with the same last name that I'd love to see packing for the NFL very soon. -
Maybe he's the only one who observes the holiday strictly, or maybe the other teams aren't willing to change their game times. It can't be a coincidence that the same year the Sox get Youk is the first year they change a night game to a day game.

You can do that now in Indiana.

GT: Sox vs. Tigers...The Final Countdown Continues

Wise has a 1.027 OPS in September. He's not going to sustain that over a full season, but no reason not to bat him 3rd while he's hot. -
Probably wasn't a big deal until it meant whether or not the starting 3B would be able to play.

My story isn't interesting--I was just at work and heard it from an employee who had their radio on. My dad's story is more interesting. He was playing golf. According to the pro at the clubhouse, his group was the last one to leave the clubhouse and head for the first tee before ABC News broke into ESPN with the news. This was before he had a cell phone so nobody could call him to tell him what happened. Also, they got stuck behind a slow group around the 8th hole, so instead of visiting the clubhouse after the 9th hole like most groups do, they skipped right to the 10th tee to get ahead of the slow group. They also went straight from the 18th green to their cars, had a CD playing in the car, so my Dad got home at almost 1pm and turned the TV on before he found out what had happened. He had to be among the last Americans to hear what had happened.

GT: Sox vs. Tigers...The Final Countdown Continues

Viciedo is 1-2 with a BB vs Fister, Johnson is 0-2 with a SF. Yes, they're the smallest of sample sizes, but I'll go with the guy who's been facing major league pitching all year and actually has a hit off Fister. -

Same lineup as last night please. -
On May 28, Cleveland was in first place. On September 11, they are tied for last, 17½ games out. I wonder if that's some kind of record for going from first to last.

I'm looking at the AL East race and thinking that the Yankees are the best matchup for the Sox in the ALDS. Am I crazy?

I talked to my stepmother last night, who is a teacher in South Bend. She said that Chicago teachers make 20% more than them, have 10% shorter workdays, and better benefits. She has zero sympathy for the Chicago teachers and she's the most pro-union person I've ever known.

I'm not sure if this was a solicitation for advice, but here it is anyway: Try to become part of some kind of group. For me, it was finding a church that I liked that also had several people my age. If you aren't religious, then some kind of common interest. If you play poker join or form a weekly home game. Maybe there is a local Sox hangout where you can meet other Sox fans. Making friends takes more effort when you aren't surrounded by hundreds (or thousands) of other single people your age on a 24/7 basis.

It's exactly 90 miles if you take the Skyway, and it's a drive I've made too many times to count.
