  1. Major kudos to Taylor Phinney for his silver medal at the World Time Trial championships, just missing gold by 5 seconds. Even more amazing is that he gave up a certain gold medal in the Under-23 race (he's 22) to compete in the Elite race.
  2. Updated Baseball Prospectus Playoff Odds Report. AL Central: Sox 81.9%, Detroit 18.1% AL East: Yankees 72.1%, Baltimore 27.9% AL West: Texas 88.0%, Oakland 10.5%, Angels 1.5% Wild Card: Oakland 71.6%, Baltimore 49.6%, Angels 32.7%, Yankees 23.2%, Texas 11.8%, Detroit 6.0%, Tampa Bay 4.0%, Sox 1.1% One-day total (Div+WC) percentage changes: Angels +4.5% Baltimore +4.4% Detroit +2.8% Sox +0.8% Texas -0.2% Yankees -0.8% Tampa Bay -3.9% Oakland -7.6%
  3. If there any any season ticket holders willing to snag some ALDS tickets for me, let me know via PM and we can negotiate a price.
  4. On July 31 the Sox were 2½ games up on Detroit. There's no way I'd have moved Rios without getting a very good starting pitcher in return, and the teams that would have been interested in Rios were contenders who weren't giving up starting pitching. Same thing this offseason. No chance I move Rios unless I get a starter back who's better and cheaper than Gavin Floyd.
  5. No, I wouldn't consider going to Afghanistan. Not for any price.

  7. Either has to be an injury or some kind of family emergency.
  8. Friday is the last WGN game of the year. Looks like WGN gambled on the Sox being eliminated by then and lost. MLBN has the Saturday game but it seems likely that MLBN/ESPN will pick up some games, especially since it seems like Texas and all the NL divisions should be settled soon.
  9. Doesn't #2 seed also start the ALDS on the road? I thought that the team with home-field advantage now plays games 1-2 on the road and 3-5 at home.
  10. Cutler didn't intend to make contact with Webb. Jay figured if he ran right at him, he'd just get out of the way like he always does.
  11. Sorry, I copied the overall playoff odds where I meant to put division odds. It's fixed now.

  14. I was about ready to say that every team Adam Dunn has ever played for might be winning their respective divisions this year, but then I remembered he had a brief trip to Arizona.
  15. Something my Mom pointed out last night--All three Sox home series against the Tigers in 2013 are weekday series. Every year, my Mom's extended family has a White Sox outing on a Saturday in the summer, and I have a couple cousins who are Tigers fans and aren't interested in going unless the Sox play the Tigers. This year, the only home Saturday game with the Tigers was in April which wasn't workable for most of the family, and next year there aren't any home Saturday games with the Tigers.
  16. I try as much as possible to stick with games where a last place team is on the road vs a division opponent. Those seem to provide the fewest upsets. In 2011, last place teams (there were 9 of them since BUF/MIA tied) were 4-23 on the road vs division opponents, and two of those wins were by KC who was 7-9 overall but still a last place team. This year, I'd start off looking for weeks where MIN, CLE, and JAX have road division games since those are the most likely last place teams, and then see how the other divisions are going.
  17. I remember a long time ago games got called because there was a MLB rule that an inning could not begin after 1am local time, but that rule apparently no longer exists.

  19. If I win the Powerball Wednesday night, I'll be there.
  20. That's kinda funny considering that the Big 12 is 10 teams and ND is one team.
  21. How about the Sox just go 10-6 or 11-5 and then not have to worry about how Detroit finishes?
  22. Obama will win, but I'd definitely bet the under on 340.
  23. Obama will win the popular vote something like 52-47, which isn't a landslide, but the electoral count will be in the range of 304-234, which is substantial.
  24. Yes, exactly. If I want to marry one of them, it's Middleton. If I want a one night stand with one or just stare at one naked, it's Upton.
