Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon, and Farrah Fawcett all died within a couple days of each other in June 2009, but then as a special one-time TV offer, Billy Mays threw in the 4th one for free.

August appearances by first place teams on MLB Network: Yankees 7 Rangers 3 Nationals 3 Reds 3 Dodgers 1 SOX -0-

Right, but that's not the situation. Suppose you found out that a very powerful and influential person had been doing this to other people's kids, and that powerful and influential person threatened to kill your kids if you squealed. That's the situation Paterno may or may not have been facing (though I think not).
-
If you make this the rule, then teams will de-activate the four starting pitchers not starting that particular game, so unless you have more than 4 call-ups, those 4 are going to be able to be active every single game anyway. You're essentially creating a rule just to create a rule.

I don't know if you have kids Kyle, but if my family's lives are being threatened, then I probably keep my mouth shut no matter how much evil is going on, though I'm probably going to be constantly sick about it and full of guilt. Still, as of now I'm not convinced that Paterno knew all of that. I do believe that Curley and Schultz probably knew more and that's why the cover-up centers around them.

Regardless of his nationality, he needs a passport to travel between countries, and if he hasn't left the US in a very long time, then it's not a stretch to believe that he doesn't have a current passport.

I wouldn't worry too much about matchups, because on any given trip through the rotation, any one of the starters might be the best and any one might be the worst.

DL excuses always seem to get a little thin the last 15 days of August.
-
That wasn't because his approach was different--it was because he was more successful with his approach back then.

The hitter in last night's Padres lineup with the highest batting average? Jason Marquis.
-
Even with Dunn, the Sox are 17th in MLB in strikeouts and 26th in walks. They have plenty of other people in the lineup that are putting the ball in play quite a bit. I do find it remarkable that aside from his homers, Dunn has only scored 35 runs while being on base 136 times, especially given that the three guys after him in the lineup are batting .316, .309, and .296.

Kansas City is so dumb, they named themselves after the wrong state.
-
His highest walk year was 2002 and he batted .249. There doesn't seem to be a lot of correlation.

I kept listing Cleveland and Toronto until they got to 7 back, so I guess I'm just being consistent.

I know very little about prospects, but I'm good at math, so here's a composite of everybody's rankings, with 10 points for first down to 1 point for tenth: 1 Hawkins 118 2 Thompson 110 3 Johnson 85 4 Walker 78 5 Barnum 61 6 Sanchez 49 7 Rienzo 42 8 Castro 28 9 Snodgress 28 10 Mitchell 26 11 Beck 18 12 Molina 5 13 Phegley 3 14 Saladino 3 15 Petricka 3 16 DeMichele 3 17 Leesman 1

Does he have an option left?

I could live without Olmedo or Hudson, but other than that, I don't see any real DFA candidates. Moving Bruney to the 60DL is pretty much the only way to get someone else added to the 40. Another thing to consider if the Sox think they might have more games with Flowers at C and AJ at DH, then they might want to use Bruney's spot on a catcher.

Yeah, at the very beginning, Holtz got a couple kids in that weren't typical ND material, and after they won the NC in 1988 that trend got reversed. In the mid-90s, Holtz finally got fed up at admissions rejecting too many of his recruits. I have a feeling that Kelly is having some success in getting the university to swing things back in the other direction. -
Well, you have at least four starting pitchers that you won't use that game anyway, unless you have more than 4 call-ups, it doesn't really matter.

That's not my point at all. The other teams are not 100% players that ND would not take. The other teams all have SOME players that ND would not take. The only teams who are 100% players that ND would take are the three schools I mentioned. -
If the Sox think Lopez is better than Olmedo, they should make that move now and not wait until September. I see no use for Johnson. If Konerko or Dunn needs a day off, I'd rather see Viciedo at DH and Wise in LF. I don't trust Johnson to hit any better than Wise and that isn't even factoring the the defensive upgrade you get in LF.

I would think Septimo is sent down when Paulie is back. EDIT: I just read that Septimo is out of options. So I think either Veal goes back or Hudson gets DFA.

I agree. The Angels and Tigers are the two teams I least want to see in the playoffs. I'd much rather have Tampa, Oakland, or Baltimore.
