New mock at https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mock-draft-2-0-2/
-
I’m not sure Walker will be there at #47. Like the idea!!! Strength of the draft is pitching see the Sox doing something similar to last year. Kiley McDaniel has been reporting many clubs will be drafting seniors in 4th and 5th rounds to go after high school players.
-
How would you rank the high school players in this year’s draft class? Exclude Veen because he has no chance of dropping
-
Tim Anderson and Luis Robert never learned a new position like the other 4 players I mentioned. I know Soderstrom has more talent than Bush, Curbello, Delgado, and Fisher, but they struggled defensively with the transition of learning a new position and still developing as a hitter. I just feel their are far better safer and higher HS ceilings than Soderstrom.

I’m a fan of Detmers, but Law and PTATC bring up questions that make you pause a little with possibility of losing velocity pitching every 5th day and core/flexibility issues which can lead to injuries down the road. Love Detmers curveball and we need a lefty. I would be happy if Sox selected him. We need to hit on this pick after Fulmer,Collins, and Burger. Whether This pick makes it on out ball club or as a trade bait for a playoff run. I do feel more confident with how the Sox has played catch up to the rest of league in the analytics and development department. Just need to continue to see improvement on development of our young hitters.

Most scouts lean on him not making it as a defensive catcher. His next best position might be 3b or LF. Sorry, but I want someone up the middle or even has a chance in RF. Their needs to be so much development done with Soderstrom And it scares me the White Sox would be able to make him into a key asset down the road. They’ve been struggling with developing players and moving them around (Bush, Curbello, Delgado, Fisher). Yes I know Bush and Delgado are both young still, but still are miles away. I also like Hassell, PCA, and Hendricks hitting profile better than Soderstrom. I agree with Law that their needs to be some mechanical changes done to get more power in his bat. Too much work for the 11th overall pick.
-
Detmers might have the best curveball in the entire draft!!!
-
Love Hassell’s swing and hands are quick. I definitely see at least average power or more in the future and will fill out his 6-2 Eighteen year old frame. Already brings great hand eye coordination and consistently makes solid barrel contact. If going the high school route Hassell is my guy. Followed by Howard, PCA, Hendricks, Abel, and Bitsko.

The only prep player I want the Sox not to pick is Soderstrom. I’m tired of Wasting high draft picks that are very questionable with their defense position and being able to handle it ( Collins, Burger, Sheets) When in doubt go up the middle. That is an interesting concern Law brings up Detmers about Pitching every 5th day. You hope it wouldn’t be the case due to his size, but if he loses a little velocity- Big mistake

Really nothing on the White Sox other than they are very difficult to gauge. New directors handling the draft.
-
Mayo also didn’t have Howard in the first. Interested to see if he drops due to his medicals/Shoulder.
-
Would love for that scenario to happen. Doubtful Kelley will be there in the 2nd Round with teams with multiple picks.

Scary his body profile and has had shoulder issues. Breaking ball needs some work. -
I’m becoming a huge fan of Hassell. Love his swing and has big time ceiling. Not sure he will be there with Rockies and Angels having interest. Would be very happy with Hassell selection. Does anyone know if the Sox have taken a liking to Hassell?
-
Law has his 3rd mock up. Sox selecting Detmers. Would love for that to happen!!! Also Chrochet not in the first round. Abel #7 to the Pirates hearing rumors they love him
-
Vaughn and Torkleson have quick, short, and beautiful swings!!!
-
Yes, he’s done it the last 3 drafts. Do you see Reinsdorf giving The ok to spend $20,000 spending of free agent players? My personal opinion and with the Sox losing money this year with no play Reinsdorf will sit on the sidelines.
-
Wow- He’s lost a ton of weight!!! Looks probably 30 pounds lighter from his videos during the Winter
-
I’m a fan of Dingler super athletic and has huge upside offensively and defensively. Sophomore numbers were down because of broken hamate. Might be a player you can cut a deal and have some savings for Rounds 2-3. Definitely early at #11, but it all depends on the Sox strategy. Going to be fun to see what teams will do to take advantage this Draft. I’m sure your going to see the typicals Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. take advantage of the $20,000 signings. Sox will probably will take a back seat knowing Reinsdorf past history of being cheap. Baseball America mentioned Dodgers always had scouts watching Dingler’s games this Spring.

Hard pass on Chrochet. Injuries and reliever risk. Has shown no evidence his arm can handle a starters load. Needs more development with his delivery. Has a short stride which causes shoulder injuries, which occurred this season. -
FS Podcast ft. Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs

Longenhagen is one of the best!!! -
I’m not very excited about that pick. Gives up a lot hits/contact and hasn’t been dominant in the college ranks. Also, has had issues with his back. Take a pass on him. Rather go with with a hitter in the 1st and high ceilings pitchers with 2nd -5th. Just like last year.
