Still holding out hope for Montgomery, but almost sounds like he’s a lock to the Mets at #10.

Rumblings of guys being connected in the 2nd Round. We often come to learn about players attached to teams after the first round, and can also typically ballpark which teams are on which players later in the draft based on their previous draft history. We could mix this stuff in to a second round mock that would also feature a lot of total and complete guesses, so rather than do that, we’re trying what we’re calling a “Reverse Mock” where we list players and tell you what teams we have attached to them and why. Morning of Draft at fangraphs. 22. Chicago White Sox Pick: Joe Mack, C, Williamsville East (NY) We don’t have enough room to list the high school position players the White Sox are considering with this pick. If there is a prep bat rumored to go anywhere from 20-50 on Sunday, he’s likely somewhere in their mix. They would love for Colson Montgomery to still be on the board for them, but that seems unlikely at this point. Teams think Jay Allen will come off the board sooner than we have him mocked here and he’s a player type fit with Chicago, but we have no hard intel connecting Allen and the Sox. Scouts vary wildly in their power projection for Mack, ranging from fringy to plus, but he’s a real catcher with a plus arm, and evaluators have more of a consensus in their praise for his hit tool. Chicago’s scouting director saw Michael McGreevy’s last outing for UC Santa Barbara, so maybe he fits here, but it wasn’t a great look.

Keith Law 3rd mock 21. Chicago Cubs: Izaac Pacheco, 3B, Friendswood (TX) HS I’d heard them heavily on Will Taylor, but he’s going to be long gone. Their approach seems to be more for high-upside high school position players, which could mean Pacheco, Allen, Braden Montgomery (if he’d sign), or maybe Tyler Whitaker. 22. Chicago White Sox: Colson Montgomery, 3B, Southridge (IN) HS All spring it’s been Colson Montgomery, Chase Petty and Pacheco for the White Sox. They might have their pick of all three.

Keith Law mock: Sox taking Chase Petty- absolute hate this pick. Violent delivery and needs a lot work with his mechanics. Throws two pitches everything very hard. Also, Law mentioned rumblings about being on infielder Colson Montgomery.

One really good thing our scouts and analytics departments targeted the right players in Burnes and Musgrove. Just too bad we didn’t capitalized on it.

Madrigal defense hasn’t been impressive at all. Makes a lot careless mistakes with his footwork. Disappointing last year and currently with his defense when it was supposed to be a strength.

I would stay away from Fabian track record of striking out over 30% in the college ranks is horrible with the transition to the pro level. I wouldn’t touch him.

Should be Eloy’s last game in the outfield.

He was definitely not in the greatest shape losing 20 pounds will be a huge plus.
