QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:14 AM) Looking at some of the names in the Pirates system, RHRP Victor Black seems like someone who might be a guy the Sox look at as part of a package. Had some arm problems as a starter but has remained healthy since being moved to the bullpen, and also struggles with control at times, but has a power arm and is close to MLB ready. Since a lot of the guys in this bullpen seem to be on their way out, it might not be a bad idea to bring in some young, cost controlled replacements. Andrew Oliver also seems like someone the Sox could possibly want as a throw in. He seems like a classic Coop project who has good stuff but struggles with control. Not a fan of Victor Black at all. Mechanics and delivery are really poor. Mechanics have caused a lot of his arm problems in the past. I do agree this seems like a player the Sox could be interested in because he's in Triple A.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) You're right. Konerko. Are both Mitchell and Walker both duds prospects now? I know Mitchell is or is there still hope for Walker Walker had major shoulder surgery and knee surgery last off season. The organization should of given him more time to fully heal. Both the Sox and Walker shouldn't of rushed back. This season needs to be thrown out. Now if he does this again next year than the bust label might come oout.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) I thought that 87-88mph slider/cutter looked great Totally agree. Cutter looked nasty

OK trade. Getting a high ceiling type of offensive player. Still only 22 years old and has a ton of potential. White Sox sure like OF's that strike out a lot. That's only thing that doesn't make me love the trade is the high strikeouts and not seeing a huge improvement increasing his walks since being drafted.

Hopefully everybody had their top scouts watching Rios and Dunn swing the bat. Hahn needs to bring his A game these next 3 weeks to prove what type a GM he is.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 06:21 PM) I'd love Glasnow. Glasnow might make the biggest jump of all starting pitchers in the minors. Would love to get him in a deal. Has a chance become a #1 or #2 starter. Would love the Sox to target a player like that.
-
Thank you. I was just about to say the same thing. 5 pages on Adam Dunn. Enough

This is also the same Gm who traded Jared Parker plus others for Trevor Cahill. Justin Upton for Prado and Delgado. Their always a possibility of Towers doing some strange deals. He did a bunch of these when he was the GM in San Diego.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Everyone thought that Wheeler was an overpay though, even at the time. Yeah but it did happen. Plus Rios isn't a 2 month rental.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) I would like to think this site is better than thinking Rios could net Skaggs. Good god. I completely disagree with you . Sox throws in some money plus you have Rios for another 1 1/2 years plus an option. A team in the West will be willing to take that risk because that division is for the taking. Look at what San Fran gave up for 2 months of Beltran. They got Zach Wheeler. I don't think getting Skaggs is a pipe dream. Would I do it if I was the GM of Arizona-NO. But they are desperate and need offense immediately in their outfield. Many trades like this have happened in the past.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) My point too. Minor league pitchers strike him out like crazy. Lets not target any more of these guys. Tyler Skaggs gives up a hit per inning in the minors and walks plenty of guys. Basically he's not that tough to pick up. Major leaguers have crushed him it looks like. Erik Johnson looks way more polished to me and he's not in any top 15 or whatever. What makes Skaggs such am elite prospect if his stats don't back it up? Basically I'm a huge fan of WHIP when evaluating milb pitchers. Are guys picking him up or not. Tyler Skaggs is a 21 year old lefty who throws 3 plus pitches. His fastball is thrown in the low 90s and could be brought up to 94-95 at times. Fastball command is area he needs to continue grow. Just like your man Erik Johnson who I'm also a big fan, but is no where near the elite prospect to Skaggs. Skaggs best pitch is his curveball. Is rated the #1 curveball by any lefty in the minors. Barry Zito like curve when in his prime. Skaggs third plus pitch is his changeup that has late fade movement, but doesn't always throw with that fade movement on a consistent basis. Scout have him right now pegged as #2 or #3 starter as of right now. Has a chance to become a #1 and a very strong #2 when improves his fastball command. His body 6ft 5/195 can add some future weight which can possibly improve increasing his fastball and stamina throught the late innings. I would love to get him, but I would be shocked if we can get Skaggs for Rios.

Tyler Skaggs is a Top 15 prospect in every publication

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 07:30 PM) I don't like Skaggs or Owings. I hope Hahn targets guys that are dominating their leagues instead. You might be the only person I know that doesn't like a 21 year old lefty with 3 quality pitches that's already got a taste in the majors. Not too many of those players exist.

Love that Rangers and Arizona are involved. Love their farm systems. Been hearing they been throwing aroundTyler Skaggs name to headline a deal. Would love to get him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) And yet STILL, nobody answered the question. What other position prospect, drafted in let's say the last decade out of high school, was pushed to High A that same year he was drafted and then started out the following season in High A??? Why can nobody answer that question, if it happens so frequently? Addison Russell

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) If Reed for Garcia straight up was on the table right now & Hahn didn't pull the trigger then I believe he should be fired immediately. Absolutely not do you trade Reed for Garcia. Garcia is a 4th OF at best. Now if they offer Castellanos I would pull the trigger because you have your 3B for the next 6 years.
-
You = Hahn. Do you heavily shop Reed, Yes or No?
PolishPrince34 replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes. Everyone should be in play except for Sale -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) I don't think you can defend putting Walker in the top 10 at this point. One thing people are forgetting on Walker is he had major shoulder surgery and knee surgery during the offseason. Rehabbing two big injuries is asking a lot and to his credit he came back very quick. The smart thing the organization maybe should of done was rehab that shoulder more. Look what is happening with Kemp/Dodgers same thing. He rushed back and his shoulder is no where near 100%. I still like Walker, but I think expectations should be low this year due to these injuries. Now if he plays like this next year, then we have a problem.

Baseball America has us signing Tyler Barnette 14th rounder

Shocking we were able to sign Mitchell at the slot price. Thought he was going to be a tough sign. Great work getting him in the 4th round.

Sox have targeted between 5 to 7 players for #17 pick in the draft. I'm hoping these are their top 5 targets that might be available or could see a slide. 1. Hunter Renfro- Chances are slim 2. Dominic Smith- Hoping he gets past #15-16 3. Alex Gonzalez Arizona Diamondbacks I think will either pick Smith or Gonzalez 4. JP Crawford Been sliding as of late. Lauman putting a lot of emphasis on getting strong up the middle 5. Chris Anderson Been strongly associated with the Sox for the past month Please Stay Away 1. Aaron Judge- Bust potential is enormous/Long arms=Long swing. Power potential hasn't been seen into played games/Only BP 2. Austin Wilson- Very awkward in the field and at the plate. Bust potential 3. Ryan Stanek- 2 pitch pitcher. Hasn't come close to developing a 3rd pitch. Screams reliever 4. Tim Anderson-Great athletic ability, but hasn't played against any competition. High Risk/High Reward 5. Phillip Ervin- Stocky body/ Body type is similar to Brett Wallace. Already positioned for LF. Let's stop talking about them. Pipes Dream 1. Trey Ball- I believe he won't fall in the draft. Only reason why he drops is because he's going to college. Only teams that have extra cash such as Houston Astros, Cardinals, etc. can take him late and pay him. 2. DJ Patterson
-
Editors from Baseball America just did their mock draft. Have the Sox picking HS catcher NICK CIUFFO. Definitely do not see the White Sox picking him. After what Lauman had to say about being happy with the organizational depth in the minors.
-
I find it hard to believe Stanek would fall to the Sox at #17. Very concerned with Austin Wilson after watching him play and move around the field-his body scares me. Not the most nimble/flexible player. Very stiff in his mechanics at the plate and field. Many people talk about his athletic ability- I don't see it as a big plus for him. Safest pick is Alex Gonzalez. Would be very happy if he falls to the Sox at #17, but a lot people reporting Arizona Diamondbacks will nab at #15. Aaron Judge is a scary thought after watching our organization handle and develop are OF's in the minors over the past couple years.
