Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
Don't mind this deal. We lose almost $8 million off the roster. Let's hope Copper can do his magic on Castro mechanics and get him back throwing strikes. This brings 2 quality arms to our farm system that we sorely needed. You can never have enough lefty relievers who have the potential to make the big league roster. This trade should help everyone realize what potential deal we can get for Thornton. Which will be very similar to what we got for Quentin.

k0na breaks story on Danks 5 years/$65mil ext...Heyman confirms
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Law was also voting based off of FIP, which Vazquez bested Carpenter in (barely, I might add). I didn't agree with what he did, but it's not like he did it blindly. No one ever said he's an expert on voting. Law's knowledge comes from knowing and analyzing the farm systems. I think Law is very good at that and ESPN would agree. Law just needs to lighten up on his sarcasm.

What does Krazy "Rebuilding" Kenny do next?
Quentin has to be next.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) No, he's just an ass. I think he's one of the better minor league insiders and he knows his sabermetrics, but his tone just makes you want to punch him in the face. I agree

Definitely need to move Quentin right now. Might be more worthwhile in better prospects to trade Thornton and Floyd during Spring Training or when injuries arise during the season. Kenny must not be liking the offers right now to do a complete 180

Kenny Williams is a confusing individual-Did anyone ever think for a second when he meant rebuilding for the Sox.

5 year for 65 million is a good deal for 27 year old hitting his prime. That deal is totally acceptable. Now let's start getting on the phone and deal Quentin, Thornton, and Floyd. We still need to rebuild.

Over/Under: $6 Million. Sox' spending on the next MLB draft
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Everyone missed on Pujols when he was at Fort Osage high school in KC with greg775. Especially the Royals, he was in their backyard. Although I'm almost positive he had at least one year of junior college. Hosmer and Moustakas, those guys were consensus top 5-10 picks. When have we ever drafted that high? Kemp and McCutcheon definitely have (had) some ups and down as well. Hosmer wasn't dominating for a 1B, he was "good" but AL average. Come on now Hosmer. Hosmer might be the best young lefty hitter in the game-21 years old. If I was starting a team right now he might be the #1 offense player on the board. He put up solid numbers this year for being called up Mid-June. Hosmer will be a pernenial All Star even with Pujols, Cabrera, Gonzalez, Teixeria. LOL on the Kemp and McCutheon that's just silly talk.

Over/Under: $6 Million. Sox' spending on the next MLB draft
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Well, we know all the issues with the Dominican. The lack of results in Venezuela has beeen troubling, to say the least. And the "win now" mentality is what usually has us drafting collegiate players who can contribute more immediately, like Sale and Beckham. Maybe the other problem is the poor results we've had in the past when taking young high school pitchers like Jason Stumm and Kris Honel in the first round. Other than that, you have Ramirez/Viciedo/Iguchi/Takatsu. And the other downside is with high school players, they're peaking between 26-30, so most guys like Harper, for example, their most productive years will be during that late 20's period with another team. You have to put up with all the growing pains at the big league level...think Delmon Young, for one example. Very few high school players end up dominating from the beginning like an A-Rod or Ken Griffey, Jr. High school players who turned out really good right from the beginning: Kershaw, McCutthen, Kemp, Hosmer, Cahill, Fielder, Wright, Sizemore, Pujols, and the list goes on. Some of are better picks with upside the last couple years were high school players: Thompson, Heindenreich, Holmberg, Ravelo. The problem is their weren't many. I'm tired of drafting relievers using a high draft picks: McMilllen, O'Neil, Soptic, Bellamy, Jones. Kenny/Laumaun need to be more open minded and stop mostly focusing on drafting college players with not much upside to them at the Ages of 23-24 who won't be called up until they are 25-26 years and then struggle for the first year or two when arriving to the majors:

FanGraphs Top 15 White Sox Prospects
QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) I could see if Danks was 24 and was under control for 4 years at undermarket price, but yeah Danks is a f/a next year... The CBA kind of screws you too. If Danks is dealt during the season teams won't get comp picks for him and GMs aren't dumb, or well some arent. they know this and will exploit it. I disagree. There is a very good chance we will get compensation with Danks, but not Quentin. In order to get compensation in the new CBA is you have to offer them arbitration and they take the average salary of the TOP 125 players. MLB is saying next year that will come out to 14 million for the year. Danks will not accept arbitration because he would be leaving at least additional 50 million on the table. Too risky for a pitcher. Sox then would get 2 compensation picks.

FanGraphs Top 15 White Sox Prospects
One prospect who doesn't get any love who I believe will break out this year is Matthew Heidenreich. Has good overall stuff and might be our #2 righty SP prospect in our system, but that doesn't say too much.

Rosenthal: "Danks will go"
I agree too many relievers. Our organization needs an influx of SP prospects. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) I like Peacock a lot...but there are far too many relief prospects in that rundown than I think are necessary.

Rosenthal: "Danks will go"
The Danks trade is interesting trade-not to bad. The one thing I don't like about any of these offers-is there isn't a guarenteed lock of a prospect that will pan out in major league roster. A lot of risk in all of these trades. Not a fan of the Quentin Deal-not sold at all on Medlin how many 5-10 starters pan out with starters workload.

Sox Post Winter Meetings
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) I like both. Not a fan of Scheppers or Loux long history of shoulder and elbow. Surgery waiting to happen. I would pass on both-damage goods. http://whereisvanslyke.blogspot.com/2008/0...s-shoulder.html Loux's shoulder injury the MRI revealed a labrum tear…significantly more serious than “fraying”. Particularly long term. In addition, Loux had symptoms in his elbow that indicate he could need Tommy John surgery in the near future. This is on top of the fact the Loux already has had elbow surgery to remove bone chips. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-l...mondbacks080310 The D’Backs were not being cheap, there were simply being prudent. They already had a deal in place to sign Loux at well below slot, until the injury issues were revealed.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) Really dissappointed we couldn't get Jed Lowrie, Josh Reddick or Lars Anderson, or any other overblown Red Sox prospect. The Santos trade was great. No, we didn't fleece anyone, but both teams got value. It's a good trade on both sides. The problem with this trade Kenny Williams seemed to focus on one team to trade with and that's Toronto. That's not being a smart GM. Santos was a hot commodity due to lack of milelage on throwing arm, ability, and friendly contract. Many teams have come out and said they wished they knew Kenny was making Santos available . Also, on the Boston front their are a lot better prospects than Anderson and Reddick. Lowrie has been with major league roster the past 2-3 years and isn't even considered a prospect anymore at the Age of 27. Kalish, Middleton, Wilson could of have been great additions to the farm system that are almost major league ready. Kenny Williams should of received more than one prospect in this deal. We should of received another prospect with a high ceiling.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) I said the last 2 years- Vicedo was signed almost 4 years ago. Santos was picked up 3 years ago. I think Addison Reed is going to be a stud, but I again have problems with Kenny and are scouts spending high draft picks on relievers. I believe Addison Reed had a good chance to develop into a starter. He has 3 average to above average pitches. You look at the past 2 drafts we have been spending high draft picks on relievers. We have absolutely no starting pitching prospects that will be legit except for Petricka whose in Low A, but still has huge question marks. They should of tried developing Reed as a SP.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
GordonEdes Red sox disappointed that Santos wasn't shopped to them b4 White Sox sent him to Tor. Way to go Kenny-that's how you trade. Only talk to one team and pull the trigger. Kenny your time is way up. We need someone with a change of philosophy on trading. For the past 2 years, the Sox haven't come out ahead on any of Kenny's decisions: Rios waiver, Dunn, Teahen trade/contract, Peavy, Rushing Beckham, Swisher both trades, Ohman-2 year deal, and list goes on. I know it's not going to happen, but Jerry FIRE KENNY WILLIAMS.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) Bailey is a much better player.. Bailey has been shelved for 2 months each of the last 2 seasons and is an elbow surgery waiting to happen. Would rather have Santos and his friendly contract over Bailey

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
I like getting Molina back, but come on Kenny we should of received another solid prospect in return. 3 years- 8.25 million. It will be very interesting to compare how much Billy Beane will get for Bailey. Let me guess it will be a lot more than Molina. Kenny always jumps the gun to early on his trades.

Will Gordo rebound in '12?
Look at what happened to Beckham, Dunn, and Rios swings this past year-pathetic. Walker should have been let go a long time ago, but at the same time I think a hitting coach is the most overrated coach needed in baseball. A player in the majors should have their swing intact by that time. Why Dunn, Beckham, and Rios completely changed their swings were beyond me. Beckham's at his best when he goes to Right-Center and we haven't seen that since his rookie year.
