QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) It is the home run derby, not the batting average derby. It literally doesn't matter a bit what his batting average was for the contest. He also didn't "expect" it. He was asked to do it by Major League Baseball, which is an honor that players shouldn't take lightly. That's not the point. He has played poorly this year (solo homeruns aside). He could have used the ASB to rest, think about his issues and work on a way to not suck so much. Instead, he chose to spend it cavorting with actual stars and playing in a silly exhibition. As much as Frazier's word often come off as selfless, this action comes off as selfish. As for Stanton's BA, Deadpool nailed it. Dude doesn't play for us.

My desire to absolutely watch every single Tim Anderson at-bat, EVER, is fading away... -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) Why are you grilling Frazier for participating in the HR derby? Who cares? Because he was hitting .213. I think it's pretty s***ty to be a hugely negative factor for your team and expect to compete in a meaningless All-Star competition.

Frazier is straight up trash. Can't believe he actually had little enough class to play in the derby. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) He's gona struggle at some point man. I'm not worried about it at all. It's just going to come about now instead of right at first. We'll see what adjustments he makes He's gonna struggle permanently if he doesn't discover plate discipline. -

Looks like the word's out about Anderson. Don't ever throw it in the zone. Easy K. No point watching this guy hit with 2 strikes- his approach doesn't change at all. -

Is it 2018 yet? Is Todd Frazier gone now? Way cool of you to participate in the HR derby when you're struggling to hit .210, dude. -

QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) Not even Tyler Flowers? I'd much prefer Flowers. All statistics aside, if Flowers was hitting in a big situation, I'd always think that something exciting could happen. When Navarro hits late in the game, Sox down, men on, and two outs, I might as well go take a s*** and refill my beer. Inning over. -

Navarro is a f***ing piece of s***. Absolutely no one I'd like to see at the plate less in a big situation. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) most definitely dude doesn't even know how many people would kill to have a pitcher like Q on their staff. Didn't dispute that. He's coveted for sure (which would be nice to take advantage of). Just wish people didn't act like he was the end-all, be-all of underrated pitchers because his fWAR is second in the AL (to Kluber, I believe, which is itself befuddling). -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Yawn. Look at the run support he gets. It's amazing. You're a Q hater, I get it but your baseball knowledge is pretty shoddy, dude. Did I say anything about his record compared to Quintana's? Since I didn't, I'm not sure why you're bringing run support. Pretty irrelevant. I don't hate Q. I just think the fact that he's underrated around the league on the whole is more than compensated for by the amount of nut-hugging he receives on this board. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 06:35 PM) How the heck is Aaron Sanchez a f***ing all star. Dunno, dude. Maybe it has something to do with Sanchez having a better ERA, ERA+ more quality starts and high quality starts, more IP/GS, and a lower homerun rate than Quintana. But hey, he did as poorly in the pointless AS game (we won't be in the World Series, so this game is effectively pointless for us) as "the best lefty in the game not named Clayton Kershaw". So f*** him. -
Melky dogs it too?!?!?!?! f*** YOU, OFFENSE!!!!!!

Unbelievable, Eaton. Just f***ing lazy.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) I really hope StrykerSox enjoyed that interview. Oh how'd you ever guess?

Another special guest? This one in middle school? Man, I hear about Donald Trump like 300 times in a day. This is supposed to be a sanctuary, damnit! Also, I think that was AJ's 400th double. Which not many catchers have done, but rather than telling the world that, Steve Stone would rather press a twelve year old into doing a Jason Benetti impersonation.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) Yes. It is only with Benetti that the Sox have guests in the booth. Is this the first game you have watched on TV? No, I know they do this stupid s*** all the time. Let me watch the game in peace without hearing about a bunch of nonsense happening in a city that I've visited for five total days in the last 2 decades.
-
Oh man, Tony Budvitas as a special guest?! Man, so glad I get to listen in to this guy and Jason the Nerd rather than focus on some stupid baseball game.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) By that logic, Quintana deserves it. He's had TWO, not three, crappy starts all year, one against BOS and another against DET. He's had a number of mediocre starts too. KCR on May 20, MIN on Jun 28, and today. Sanchez hasn't had any. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) Evan Drellich ✔ @EvanDrellich Aaron Sanchez replaces Craig Kimbrel on the All-Star team See my last post. Sanchez deserves it. He's had three crappy starts all year (none as bad as Sale yesterday), one against TEX and another against BAL. Other than that, total dominance. -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) 2nd best pitcher in the American league this season. WHAT A MEDIOCRE PLAYER. Please delete your account. According to what, WAR? Why don't you look at a freaking game log? You know, something blatantly objective that actually matters? Nolan Ryan defines a high quality start (HQS) as 7+ IP, 3 runs or less. So (including today, since Quintana will not have a QS or HQS with Freeman's bomb)... Jose Quintana- 18 GS, 12 QS, 8 HQS (67% and 44% respectively) Steven Wright- 17 GS, 12 QS, 8 HQS (71%, 47%, also Wright's ERA starting today was .38 lower, and he has 3 CGs, averaging slightly more IP/GS than Quintana) Danny Salazar- 16 GS, 9 QS, 6 HQS (56%, 38%, dude does not go deep in games) Cole Hamels- 18 GS, 12 QS, 8 HQS Masahiro Tanaka- 17 GS, 10 QS, 7 HQS (59%, 41%) Corey Kluber- 18 GS, 10 QS, 9 HQS (56%, 50%) Chris Sale- 18 GS, 12 QS, 12 HQS (67%, 67%) Marco Estrada- 16 GS, 12 QS, 6 HQS (75%, 38%) Aaron Sanchez- 17 GS, 14 QS, 9 HQS (82%, 53%) JA Happ- 18 GS, 12 QS, 8 HQS This was the first time I've compared so many pitchers this year. Q is clearly up there, but he's by no means the second best pitcher in the AL. Sanchez has been surprisingly dominant in his starts and yet fWAR places him .7 below Q. What gives? -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 12:15 PM) Telling a baseball announcer to shut up and just announce the game is such a ridiculous comment. There's not that much going on in baseball guys. I don't really care to hear Jason Benetti's opinion on AS qualifications. I don't really care to see him on camera or know what he looks like. I'm fully capable of watching the game and processing what happens with no commentary whatsoever. And no, I won't simply mute it because I do like hearing the sounds of the game and the stadium. You're free to feel differently, but the main things I want from an announcer are brief introductions of new relievers I might not be immediately familiar with, explanations/notifications of things I might miss watching on TV (like Flowers for AJP), and directly relevant blurbs about players (so-and-so kills lefties, RF can throw but CF can't- stuff that increases my understanding of the game). That's all I want- if I wanted to know about AS snubs, I'd Bing it. -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) 4 IP, 3 ER. 64 pitches, so he won't go that deep. Looks like another mediocre start for Mr. Snub.
