  1. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Fangraphs lists .140 as average, .170 as above average, .200 as great and .250 as excellent. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/iso/ If Moncada could maintain that roughly .200 ISO he has now that would be fantastic. Realistically he probably won't be there from the start but if he can even be in the .170 range I would be happy with that. I've seen people compare Moncada to Trout and Cano. Trout had a .220 ISO in AAA, Cano had a .176 ISO at AAA. So Moncada is pretty well in line with them. Whether it will translate or even improve like their's did is anybody's guess. Thanks for the response. I'll admit that I refrained from asking what a "good" ISO was because I figured a high contact singles hitter would have a low ISO (Ichiro = .092, for instance), so I figured a "good" ISO would depend on what role we are expecting a hitter to take...
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) On the Pittsburgh side of things, Kevin Newman isn't exactly setting the world on fire either. .702 OPS at AA as a 23 year old. Forgettable and unpromising. Other than Tucker, I don't think there's anyone we had a legitimate shot at with Q that I'm feeling all that sad about. And Tucker would have likely been paired with Martes, who I was high on but whom has had atrocious control thus far. Forest Whitley has struck out 19 in 10 IP at A ball as a 19 year old, which is cool but a small sample size. Ramon Laureano has been putrid.
  3. I think I understand that ISO tells us how much power hitters have separate of their contact abilities, but what do the numbers roughly mean? I.e. what is a good ISO for a future slugger? What do we want to see from Yoan?
  4. Geez, he might have added a few irrelevant names, but I don't think there's anything pointless with looking at the progress of a few prospects we wanted (or didn't want) for Q. Austin Meadows, for starters, has a slash of .215/.274/.563 at AAA. That gives him a .668 career OPS at that level. Rafael Devers, who probably wasn't seriously on the table, is at .312/.366/.925 at AA. 6 homers, .310 BABIP. Aaron Judge is absurd, so far. 13 bombs in 29 games. 1.173 OPS. Clint Frazier is at .255/.352/.832 at AAA. Tyler Glasnow is walking the world (19 BB in 27 IP) and giving up a ton of hits for the Pirates. But he's striking out just over a batter an inning. Mitch Keller is stellar at A+. 5 BB in 34.1 IP. Kyle Tucker is at .303/.386/1.046 with 10 steals at A+. Francis Martes has thrown 16 IP at AAA, striking out 17 and walking 15.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) Moncada will be up soon. All there is to it. When that happens, can we DFA one of Saladino or Sanchez, and have the other ride the pine six days when that happens?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) Yep it's great that of the three most important players on the 25 man roster for the Sox future, one is seemingly dead, one forgot how to hit and field and the other one can only get Royals out. This is depressing.
  7. QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) What a bulls*** strike 2. It wasn't that far off. Doesn't excuse Avi K'ing on something over his head on the next pitch.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Well this sucks....not a good season for Q so far This was always the risk. Should have traded him for the best offer we had.
  9. QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) How original nut huggers.. really? Do you have something better to call the defenders of the guy with a .660 career OPS?
  10. QUOTE (Soha @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Umm, no Watch out for the Tyler nuthuggers, man. I truly don't get it. Tyler is a fifth infielder at best. Weak bat, good glove. Not an essential part of the future. Why is he so ravenously defended? Then again, I don't understand people who think Quintana and Buehrle are/were aces, or people who thought Paul Konerko was an especially great player.
  11. Baltimore's scorekeeper is apparently just like everyone else in Baltimore- a crook.
  12. How are these runs earned? How did Trumbo get a hit? Bulls***.
  13. I really just hate everything about Saladino.
  14. Courtney Hawkins 0-4 with 4 Ks. Time to find a job selling cars, bud.
  15. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Man that Jordan Zimmerman contract has gotten ugly pretty fast. 5.64 K/9 v 2.22 BB/9 last year, 4.87 ERA. 4.38 K/9 v 2.92 BB/9 this year. 6.20 ERA. Still owed about $90m for the next 4 years. There ought to be a thread for contract schadenfreude. $30 million for Cabrera at 40? No thanks. How about Pujols? $24 million a year, and he hasn't achieved an .800 OPS since year one of that monster. I remember how antsy I was for Dunn's four years to be over; I can't imagine how ten years would feel. Not that I'm crying for Angels fans. After the 2005 ALCS, they deserve it.
  16. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) I definitely expected a much worse line when I saw this post. through 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 Ks Not a great start, but far from 'f***ing garbage' I was offering a summative review of his performance thus far, considering especially his BB rate and reportedly decreased velocity. Not exciting.
  17. We adopted our dog that day. So we spent all morning at the shelter introducing him to the dog we already had. Later in the day, we were picking stuff up at PetsMart and I decided to check what time the game came on that day. It was in the 9th inning.
  18. Also HR for Willy Garcia, K for Collins, 1-2-3 first for Dunning.
  19. Since the similarity of each at-bat has made me curious, here is an inventory of all of May's PAs: K looking: 3 K swinging: 5 GO 4: 7 Sac bunt: 1 FO 8: 2 HBP: 1 BB: 1 GO 6: 2 GO 3: 2 Yep. In 24 PAs, he's grounded out to second almost 25% of the time, or four times as much as he hits the ball in the air.
  20. Not sure what I want to hear in response to this, but I hate my job. I teach high school. I like my subject, I like my bosses, I like my students (mostly). On top of it, I am almost finished with a graduate program that will allow me to go into educational leadership. So it's weird that I now find myself scoffing at this entire field, and I'm not sure why. All the time I hear it from those above me that this is the most important and noble work that there is. Seems narcissistic and simply wrong, and also unnecessary. While I think my background makes me well-suited for the logistics of school leadership, I always find myself hoping that I won't be required to pump up people's egos so they can successfully do their jobs. I really wish I could better explain my point. I think I just want to do something else with my life. Go back to the military, sell real estate, go into law enforcement, private business, something. It's not a money thing, either. I don't think teacher pay is s***, and admin pay certainly isn't. I can't quite put my finger on it. So take this post for whatever it's worth.
  21. Wait, I'm the only person who likes this? Hmm. I don't have a problem with long games or even baseball's pace, but to throw something in to extras to raise the stakes, I love it! It reminds me of NCAAF starting OT at the opp's 25, and I am a huge fan of college OT. Now, full disclosure, I was at CitiField for the final game of the 2010 season. Non-contender Mets vs. non-contender Nationals. 1-1, top of the 14th, Oliver Perez walks four straight, Mets go down in order in the bottom half and everybody scoots off to play f***ing golf. Yeah, sorry, liven that s*** up. I guess the baseball gods were making up for letting me watch a no-hitter from the front row earlier in the year in Atlanta...
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 06:01 PM) It's on HBO. Damon Lindeloff is behind it, who you might know from Lost. Bummer, we do NetFlix and an OTA antenna. No HBO. Don't know much about Lost, although I think I saw the set from the air in Hawaii a decade or so ago, before it aired. Watched a couple episodes before losing interest.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) IMDB synopsis: Interesting. Is it on Netflix?
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Been contemplating between The Crown and The Leftovers as our next show to binge. No idea what The Leftovers is, so obviously my pick is biased. The Crown isn't super fast-paced, but the cinematography is beautiful and if you are at all interested in the royals, you'll enjoy it. I'd even rewatch it, myself.
