QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) Feel sorry for him. His salad days are over as a big leaguer. No longer a prospect after this season's flop at the plate. He's no longer a prospect because he's 27 and has played in 191 games over three seasons.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 26, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) Who in the hell was Rosado? And yes, this helps show how incredible Pedro was Had to look it up, but your answer is Jose Rosado. Decent 1999, pretty awful in five starts in 2000 as a 25 year old, and never showed up in baseball again, save for five games in the Puerto Rican winter league in 2008.

Todd better start hitting, or he's going to miss out on the important things in life, like the HR Derby. Covey is really terrible. Give us something else, please. -
Also, ignorant question, but how does this work? $25 mill is the bonus? And he'll just come up with six years of control like everyone else? Why was it different for Abreu?

Getting way ahead of things here, but if we sign him, where does he get assigned?

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Anyone has suggestion for a Cards forum? Are their fans eager to sign Robert? How are they reacting of the new IG pic? Gatewayredbirds.com has one five page thread about Robert, the last post is the IG pic, and one user and 13 guests are reading. It's the fifth post in the thread today.

Jon Greenberg, from the McGuffey thread, does claim his source says our offer will be "phenomenal", FWIW.

You there, Hawk? -
I love that Renteria gave Swarzak a pep talk while taking him out. He needs to be our manager for a good long while. Also, can we just not pitch to Trout, like, ever?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) Pujols' career arc is fairly similar to Big Frank's. Went from the best hitter in the game to a shadow of his former self in the last third of his career. I see your point but don't go too far with it. For his age 31-36 seasons (2011-2016), Pujols had 3770 PAs where he hit .272 with an OPS of .817. And that mostly came from the first two years, as he hasn't put up an .800+ OPS since 2012. For the same age (1999-2004), Frank hit .285 with an OPS of .939. He had an .800+ OPS in each season except for his injury shortened 2001. Also, in the age 37-39 seasons, he had an OPS of .891 in 1307 PAs. The "Frank Thomas decline" is bulls***, and only even seems like a decline when compared to his 1991-1997 seasons, which were on par with Ted Williams. -

Looks like Frazier is going to be the next slugger whose career terminates in the south side. Dunn, Laroche and now this guy. Good riddance to all. -

Todd sucks. So does Avi, hot start aside. -
QUOTE (bmags @ May 12, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) Wouldn't it be better just to add something like wSB to wRAA? Does that give too much credence to wSB in that situation? Could you expand on that? I don't know either of those measures.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) A single + SB is not equal to a double, you can't score a runner from first on a single and a SB. Fair point. So, why not factor that in? Come up with a quotient to temper it. What percentage of doubles in the last three years have not scored a runner from first? Take that and multiply it by the amount added to SLG by SBs. Add that to the normal SLG, add OBP and voila. So, let's say 80% of doubles in the last three years have not scored a runner from first (scoring a runner from second or third doesn't matter because singles could do that). Looking at Hamilton again: (((50+17 (TB + SB diff))/139 (ABs)) - .360 (SLG))*.8=.098 .671 (OPS)+.098 = .769 SBOPS (thanks soxfan2014!) Maybe I'm being ridiculous. But I still think this is every bit as fair and worthwhile as WAR or other things we talk about nowadays.

This is totally random, and apropos of nothing, but is there any advanced stat that accounts for SBs when looking at a player's OPS? The way I'm thinking about it, if a player gets a single and then steals a base, that could be looked at as a double. Therefore, someone like Billy Hamilton, who is 19 for 21 in SB attempts, adds a net value of +17 once on base. So, while his normal OPS is a mediocre .671, his SB-adjusted OPS (SB differential + TBs / ABs) is a pretty solid .793. What do ya'll think?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 10, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Very few players can make it work with an ISO below 100. Obviously Ichiro was one. Juan Pierre was as well. Scotty Pods, too.
