Phillies just won, and Giants are winning. Even if the Giants lose, we've got them beat in WP and we're a game ahead of the Phils. No reason to not get the #1 pick.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) So the Dodgers are the first team to win 43 games in a 50 game stretch since the 1912 Giants. That's not how you get a good draft pick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) He has fanned at least 10 seven times in his career, and 5 of his last 9 starts. His ascent to ace is happening. What will be interesting is what their plans are for him. 4 years of control after this year. Next year is a throw away, a lot will have to go right for 2019 to be close to the same. Do they trade him for prospects? I'm really not a big contracts guy, but how does he have four years left? Debuting in 2015, shouldn't his six years be up after 2020?

The AL should be terrified of a Michael Kopech who doesn't walk people. Holy s***.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) A guy like Delmonico is going to be really hurt by a lack of pitching for the short term. With needing the extra relievers in the pen, it shortens up the bench, which gives us less defensive replacement options for a guy like this. With all due respect, I think you are way overthinking this. Let the kid play and let's see what he can do. The game results mean very little for the time being.

Just like we have two years (18-19) to see if Anderson is more 2016 or 2017, we have the same timeframe to see where Delmonico fits in. That play last night was atrocious- like one of the worst I've ever seen from an MLBer. So, does his defense improve? If not, but his bat plays out, I don't know who would prevent him from being a DH in our contention window.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 09:49 PM) Are we really even mentioning the majors for Hawkins because he's gone 4 weeks hitting .256/.320/.412, bringing his overall line to a whopping .185/.239/.327? Dude is dead as a prospect. Don't get me wrong- I don't believe this will happen. But he has turned it around recently, including in terms of Ks. He's still relatively young, so why not push him and see if he's an asset? What do we have to lose? Eloy could be at AAA next year, but other than him, do you want to see Rymer Liriano in the OF again, or would you like to test Hawkins? I fully expect him to continue to fail, and my comment about the majors was an absolute perfect storm, but we have the space so we at least ought to find out.

QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) Courtney Hawkins has actually been decent since back in Birmingham. Since July started he is 17-74 for .256 and only struck out 17 times. 10 rbis and 2 HRs. In his last 12 games he has only struck out twice in a game 1 time. Raised average 56 points in July. Maybe something is clicking for him. Prior to July he had struck out twice or more in Birmingham in 17 of 23 games. Only twice with 2 strikeouts in July. That is really an amazing turnaround. I noticed this the other day. He's only 23 too, so it's not like he's moved into non-prospect age. I'm not going to put much stock in this, but start him at AA next year and move him to AAA if he does well. If he hits there, maybe, very tentative maybe, he gets a cup of coffee in September. Yeah, I can't even believe I just wrote that.

The first day since Moncada's been up where I thought, "eh, I don't need to pull my hair out watching his every AB, I'll just check the highlights later". And this happens. -
There goes his trade value. Probably for ever.

QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) Huh? I think he was referring to Edwards' screaming upon getting out of a jam in the sixth inning of a meaningless game. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) Wtf happened to Saladino this year. Very disappointing He reverted to the mean. Which in Saladino's case is struggling to put up a .600 OPS. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Did he groundout on purpose. The kid will learn How can you be so unendingly positive? After watching asshole Lackey hit three guys, showing either poor command or poor temper, TA grounded out on the first pitch. He didn't have to do it intentionally for it to be pathetic. He deserved the benching. -

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Pretty crazy line for Rodon. The 4 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB looks like s*** but because of the 11 K's he had a 3.14 FIP and 1.23 xFIP for the game which are phenomenal numbers. Seems like a flaw with peripherals. Rodon was lousy today, Ks aside. -

Sure, Carlos could be a trade chip, if he turns things around now. But while Quintana and Sale had both many years of control and lengthy track records (not to mention excellent durability in Q's case), Rodon has neither. He is injury prone, he walks too many people and he's far too hittable. Not much of a trade chip anytime soon. -

Rodon is irrelevant. If our contention window starts in 2021, he won't even be here. Right now, we should focus on Moncada and Anderson, neither of whom look very good, at this moment. -

Let's be honest- Avi will never make the AS team again. -
Think that was the first time I've seen Moncada have a s***ty AB.

I love Hawk but senility is clearly a b****. That said, Benetti is insufferable. Totally unbearable.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 08:49 PM) I meant it more as he is hitting the ball better. And I know it doesn't negate anything, but my point is that he's at least trending upward a bit Fair enough. I can appreciate the optimism, but he just seems soooooo far away from the very solid player we saw last year. I want him to make it because he seems like an easy player to root for, but I keep having Gordo flashbacks.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 08:43 PM) Anderson is hitting well since the ASB. Just needs to cut down on mental mistakes. He'll be fine He's 6-21 with a double and a walk. It's not that exceptional and it doesn't negate the pre-ASB lousiness.
