QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) The other side of the coin is the people in the middle of nowhere that vote with jesus. Both sides are uninformed and are hurting the government. The only reason Oberweis keeps getting reelected is jesus and ice cream. You are most certainly correct.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) And yet the same leaders in Springfield keep getting elected over and over again. Hell, 2 out of the top 3 power positions in the state belong to one family. It's pathetic. They've driven the state into the ground, they've flat out lied to the public, and no one cares because they promise to give people things and/or promise to do so and people eat that s*** up. Chicago does have its fair number sheeple that outweigh the informed voters. That's the only reason these incompetent twits keep getting elected.

So Rauner is going to try to bust up the union heavy Chicago? (since Chicago is most of the Illinois revenue) That seems like a recipe for another Democratic blowout in November.
-

If that is all he's done he's hasn't accomplished anything worth praising. Does he think he's going to save his state money by busting up the unions?

I haven't been too political savvy as of late but why the heck are people felating Scott Walker?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Consumption taxes are highly regressive. Then the government should choose where to tax accordingly. Tax our income and leave the rest alone. The problem with that is that people who get paid under the table dodge taxes. Atleast with consumption, you hit everyone.

I didn't really put 2 and 2 together but Oberweis is the ice cream guru?

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) So property taxes are mostly going to schools/police/etc. I'm not sure I could see how state setting a level like that is practical. So if a locality decides it wants an improvement to their schools it would what, increase sales tax? That's incredibly regressive. I feel like consumption taxes are the best way to go. I'm no economist or tax guru but I feel like the income tax is just plan wrong on so many levels. People need their money and the government is consistently triple or even in some cases quadruple taxing the people. 1) Income 2) Food & Sales Tax 3) Utility taxes 4) Property Taxes So the government is consistently dipping into the pot with very few results to show for it. They just can't resist those ooey gooey cookies.

2014 TV thread
QUOTE (juddling @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 04:04 AM) I don't know how many people have been watching since the beginning but Person of Interest and their overarching plotlines have been wonderfully written and executed. To me this is the best serial show on tv....... Person of Interest in one of my favorite shows on TV. All of the characters are solid and there is generally never a dull moment.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) My property taxes are capped at 1% by the state of Indiana. That would appeal to lots of people. Is that 1% of your property value?

I do think taxes need to be drastically decreased in Illinois. People have overpaid for years without the services to back it up. Maybe on a tighter budget, things will get done. I know it's naive to believe there is hope for these worthless f***ing politicians but pretty soon people will just pack it in and get the hell out of Illinois.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) Not that it's terribly relevant, but these were ruled unconstitutional in South Dakota based on a statute that states the notice must be given to you in person by an issuing officer. They are. Using cameras to generate revenue is just wrong. Everyone breaks the law in the vehicle at some point. Should it cost them $100 because a camera caught them? Hell no. Illinois needs to get it's act together. This s*** has been going on too long and quite frankly it's embarrassing.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) I'd've probably voted for Dillard over Quinn. Not Rauner though. What is wrong with Rauner? I need to do my research on the candidates but I'm somewhat tired of the Illinois democratic machine.
