    Facebook

Facebook is getting more complex by the day. I found just unsubscribing to certain people's news-feeds does wonders. If you really don't give a s*** about what most people on your friend's list have to say, just block everyone and subscribe to the news-feeds that you enjoy. I've thought about quitting facebook numerous times. It's a way to keep in touch with my family so it's somewhat difficult.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) Your opinion there will probably change as you have kids and they get older, I know mine has. IJS you can't coddle your kids forever. They have to take their lumps and learn.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) My sister in law is 33 and still needs her parents to smack her upside the head. Heh. Well isn't she a product of her upbringing if she can't make competent decisions at that age? I just think it's ridiculous that parents chime in on their kids and their adult relationships. You should be supportive, barring the person being a complete and blatant idiot.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) Whenever I am on the 80 Irving Park bus just before a Cubs game, I am usually surrounded by ignorant obnoxious white suburban Cubs fans, and I must say I am always embarassed by their actions and hope that others don't stereotype me with them too. Not the same thing, but kind of I guess. I would say you're pretty safe
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) Teenagers do stupid s*** that most of their parents have already done. Not being specific to race relations or anything, but that is the general reason parents put their nose into their kids business. I wasn't even talking about teenagers. I'm talking grown people! My previous example was when I was 24 years old (she was the same age). That may seem like a child but it's far from it.
  6. I never understood why parents got involved with their children's relationships. That just seems so wrong to me.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) My dad had that problem when my grandmother first found out he was serious about marrying my mom. She had a problem with it and with my mom for years. His solution was to do whatever he wanted to and make her get over herself. However there's some cultures (Jewish, Asian for example) where there's significant pressure to marry one of your own and you can't buck your parents like that and it wouldn't be acceptable. Yeah my current girlfriend is Israeli. She's a non practicing jew (thank allah for that) but if she was, I imagine we'd have all sorts of fuggin' problems. I've heard horror stories from her relatives and their endeavors. That's not fun stuff.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) You left out key additional information that the person's identity was obscured with the sweatshirt and that recent crimes were committed in the area by young black men. You know what, can an admin or mod just delete all of my posts in this thread? I'm serious. I'd rather just not even be involved at all if people are going to react like they have. Don't be afraid to challenge people. Healthy discussion promotes growth.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Yeah, it's just different. Yes I have a degree Yes I had good grades in high school and college even though I was poor growing up and my dad was unemployed a lot Yes I have good credit Yes I have a son and am actually with him all the time No I do not have a criminal record No this all isn't really as unusual even though I know you assumed at least half were the opposite when you looked at me (unless I was wearing a suit and tie) I'm not even saying I'm bitter or jaded about all this, just saying, the world does not look the same to me as it does to you. Damn brother. +1000
  10. Oh yeah and this one time this father of a white woman I was dating basically said to me that he'd rather his daughter date a loser, woman beating, white guy before a black was pretty humorous too.
  11. Let me add white women clutching their purses when you're on a el platform because clutching your purse will really prevent someone from overpowering you and taking it. I can't help but to just scoff and shake my head at them.
  12. I totally feel you lostfan. As a black man I always feel like I'm trying to prove myself to white people. It's not something I have intent to do but it's more inherent. Example: While riding the train, I see some idiot rapping out loud during rush hour. I feel compelled to tell him to STFU. I feel like his actions reflect poorly on me that I have to defend myself from him. It's all too weird of a feeling. I'm sure if a white person saw some other white person acting like an idiot, it probably wouldn't even phase them. Another example is when I tell people my profession, they get big eyed, like it's impossible for a black man to possess an education. It's a shame really. From distancing ourselves from the idiots and still getting treated like *******, I grow weary of the s*** on a daily basis. White people will never understand that s***. I'm not trying to be racist but it's just true. I feel like most of them see things through rose colored glasses.
  13. I should be clear that I don't give a s*** about this case. I was just pointing out that randomly beating up people is just stupid.
  14. People just blow my mind. Why in the world would you beat a random mofo for vengeance? They should be going after Zman or the jurors (I'm not condoning that by the way I'm just saying that would make more sense) It's like the world has an IQ of 40.
  15. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:12 AM) And you could also get a city where 500 people are murdered every year, like that really big one we know which happens to be the only major US city where you cannot walk around the street with a gun. The results really back up your idea, there. I'm seriously stunned that people are stupid enough to get conned into caring about this case anymore. I mean its a convenient platform for a couple big liberal activism points (racism at every corner, guns) but this gets more play than anything else happening in the world right now or over the past week. Doesn't make any sense! Stop caring! Treyvon's dead, he isn't coming back no matter how much #justice he gets and getting all pissy about Zimmerman walking is like getting mad at the White Sox for missing the playoffs this year. You already knew what was going to happen, why get so pissed when the totally expected happens? I dont get it. I will say that the constant stream of race-oriented Us vs. Them bulls*** that's been crammed into our skulls is finally getting to me. I feel myself giving less and less of a s*** about blacks in general as opposed to an earlier time when I really didn't give a s*** about anyone that much and it was pretty uniform across racial lines. This bulls*** is maddening, the idea that because a black was the victim of a crime the pillars of our legal structure that have existed for as long as this country has (double jeopardy) are openly being questioned by a black AG appointed by a black president. I'm getting sick of being OK with this s***, the mountains of welfare money disproportionately spent on blacks who commit more crimes, wind up in jail more often and graduate high school less. Some of you will call me racist just for saying that, but its the goddamn truth and I wouldn't have even gotten to this point if I wasn't bombarded almost daily with anti-white propaganda guised as "progressive tolerance initiatives". But that's kind of what happens when you create an enemy to point at for all your problems, you threaten an imaginary foe into existence. Duke, your rants are probably why there will never be another Republican president.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) That sounds incredibly racist. And honestly, it seems like you're making it about race. Come on milkman... instead of understanding lostfan's message you cherrypick on irrelevant details.
  17. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 11:56 PM) I understand where you're coming from. When I started dating my girlfriend in March of last year she was aware that I work out basically every day. We moved in together in December and me working out has bothered her ever since. Especially when I record the Sox games and go downstairs to workout. It's not like I take 3 hours to watch the games, instead I take about 45 minutes to an hour, however long I make my workout that day. But my girlfriend and I are having tons of issues right now unfortunately. It's been a busy 16 months between moving in together and getting her pregnant within 2 months of dating. We have a near 6 month old daughter who I really love and so does she, but the love for each other has seem to become extremely complicated sadly. We annoy each other and get into arguments every day it seems. Plus she absolutely hates sports. Such as this past weekend, her dad was getting remarried and had a wedding rehearsal on Friday. I manage the softball team that I play on Friday nights and I hadn't missed a game since high school because of baseball, but I missed this one because of the wedding rehearsal. We went weeks arguing about me wanting to leave early to play softball and finally I gave in because I feel my relationship is more important than softball even though I hadn't missed a game in this league in 9 years. So 15 minutes before our game time she tells me that I probably didn't need to be there in the first place and if I wanted to go to softball I could, which of course pissed me off. But with our relationship now, it's just so distant. We both want to be around the baby, but I honestly think that's probably the only reason we're still together. We don't have a lot of things in common and our work schedules aren't parallel with each other and honestly right now I'm happy about that. I'm sure there's someone on this site that's been in my shoes before with this situation. I still love my girlfriend and love my baby more than I've ever loved anything, but my relationship is looking more and more bleak as the weeks go on. I'm starting to feel it's not worth dating her just because we have a baby together and it's very painful to realize that could be the only reason we're still together currently. We're planning on going to a counselor as a last chance to see if we can work this out. I suppose I'm just tired of the fights, and looking for a place to sleep once every couple weeks for the past few months. Packing my stuff to move out 2 times already too. Damn dude. Your situation is the epitome of being between a rock and a hard place. It put things in perspective about relationships for me. I just don't have things as tough as probably most. I know being around people excessively will cause both parties to see the worst in each other. I really hope both of you can work it out for your child's sake. I see so many parents stay together when they absolutely want to decapitate each other for the sake of the kids. My girl simply annoys the s*** out of me with her excessive syrupy-ness, her obsession with animals, and her adolescent speak. Other than that, she's alright.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Well that is because a not guilty verdict is evidence, its not a finding of fact. The OJ trial didnt prove he was "factually innocent", but the Zimmerman trial (to my best understanding of how the law could be applied) found that Zimmerman was lawful in shooting Martin. Unless the jury just didnt believe that the Prosecution proved that Zimmerman actually shot and killed Martin. Zimmerman didn't have to prove s*** to the state since they brought the charges on him. The state had to prove that Zimmerman did what he did with ill intent. The not guilty verdict just means Zimmerman won that aspect. He's not innocent by any means.
  19. Question for Jenks and any other lawyers... What would be the adv for GZ being found innocent versus not guilty?
  20. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) All I'm gonna say is that it's a real b**** move to pull out a gun in a fist fight. So now George is a softie pushover (let's ignore his anger issues and violent past) and Trayvon is a teenaged killing machine...ok. The man doesn't have a shred of pride left but at least he's alive... for now. He practically had a witness berate him and call him a giant f***ing p**** to save his skin. Not sure if I would want to go out like that.
  21. GZ's life is super f***ed. He'll have to leave the country if he's not convicted. The man will truly never be free. That in itself supports two tragedies already.
  22. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) That's how it got so f*cked up to begin with. What other liberal idea do they think will work there? Communes? Organic farms? Solar panels? Are you f***ing trolling?!?!?! Please tell me you're f***ing trolling.
  23. He has a new approach that's working for him. Let's see what happens.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) He was hit earlier in the game, as was Tank. Just a high up and in pitch when he started towards the mound. Ah the gamecast said he was HBP. Thing is practically worthless.
