Crosstown Cup Finale Game Thread, Game 4

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) I preferred the version of sale that threw the high fastball by people at 97. Not the one who induces the ground out on a 91 mph high fastball Yup. This whole "strikeouts are actually bad because they don't let you go deep into games" thing he's got going on this year is absolute horses***, and Rick Hahn or somebody needs to explain this in detail to him and Don Cooper. Unfortunately he got really lucky pitching to contact early in the year and that's probably cemented the idea in their heads. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 07:21 PM) His change up is his best pitch? His slider gets more publicity but his changeup has typically rated as his best -

9 pitches to Dexter Fowler, no changeups. How can nobody from the Sox organisation not be pinning him down saying "throw your best pitch you idiot"? -
Call 2-2. Luis Martinez 5.0 IP, 3H, 1R, 2BB, 5K, he's having a sneaky good year if you look past the 4.28 ERA: 9.2 K/9, 2.9 BB/9.
-
Aaron McRee, 2016 UDFA: 44.1 IP with Great Falls, 37 strikeouts, 2 walks.

You guys I'm beginning to think promoting the guy who walked 51 guys in 87 AA innings wasn't the best idea -
Some of these suggestions are ridiculous. If Robertson was somehow made a free agent now, what would his contract be?
-
Matt Cooper 2.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K. Still feel like they gave up on him as a starter too early but could be an interesting September bullpen candidate.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) He's also a dude that has a track record of not being godawful. Sure, and how he did that was by not pitching like he is now. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) Must be so hard to give credit to a pitcher who is very good for 7 straight games because you so handily believe in sabremetric peripherals. Just means you know nothing about pitching or people for that matter. Come on dude. He's had 24 strikeouts and 16 walks in 47 innings, along with a 35% groundball rate, 33% hard hit rate and 8% soft hit rate. He's been extremely lucky. -

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Can any of you explain what has enabled Shields to so dramatically turn things around? He has been terrific, after that brief awful stretch. Mostly luck -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 07:03 PM) Typically, yes. The problem is all three of Duke/Jones/Robertson also are gassed from the last few days. Duke has pitched in 3 of the last 4, and 4 of the last 6. Robertson made 3 appearances in 2 days. Jones didn't pitch yesterday, but had thrown in 3 straight days, and 4 of 5 before that. Maybe you're right. I'm just not expecting these results from Shields to last that much longer and I'm hoping when the runs do come they come for another team. -

QUOTE (Green Line @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 06:56 PM) Give Shields one more inning. I do. not. trust this bullpen to go 3 innings without imploding. It's literally impossible at this point. I trust Duke-Jones-Robertson more than a gassed 2016 Shields -

Go to the bullpen and try to sell Shields to someone using his name and the ERA of his last 7 starts. Dude is gonna start giving up some serious runs again soon. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) You'd have a pitching staff throwing to two guys that have combined to catch single digit major league innings. a) Alex Avila is close to being back b) I'd rather our pitching staff throwing to a sloth with its arms amputated than Dioner Navarro -

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 06:14 PM) Why is f***ing RV not challenging the play at second. Russell clearly never touched the base Don't think you can and don't think it would have been overturned anyway -

Hopefully Shields continues putting up zeroes while pitching like s*** long enough to trade him at the deadline -
What an insane seller's market. And of course our major obvious tradable player completely s*** the bed right before the deadline.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) Amazing....way to kill that trade value It's unbelievable, I swear every year our only tradable guys do something like this
-
lol Quintana
-
Yankees won. Could do with them going on a nice run to make it even more of a seller's market.
-
At least they were all close balls

It's worked out so far, but what is with our weird obsession with walking V-Mart to get to Castellanos? Castellanos is a better hitter both this year and last.
