Have to imagine that the awful, failed, ridiculously stupid Avi Garcia Experiment will now only last as long as Justin Morneau's rehab assignment

Feeky's boring Junior Guerra update: 7.1 IP v the Nationals, 0 runs, 7 strikeouts, ERA down to 2.93.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:03 PM) I am all for framing, but umpires shouldn't miss non borderline pitches. Oh 100%, it's on them too, but Navarro is awful back there, stabs at everything -

Bad umping but Navarro can't f***ing receive. Baffling why Hahn ignored/overlooked his god-awful framing stats when signing him. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) The anti-Ventura crowd largely agrees there's a talent evaluation problem too though. It's not one against the other. The manager is the first thing that could be replaced and be done over night, though. If he does get canned, it's Renteria. Are we sure he's better than Robin? Just reading a quick evaluation of his time with the Cubs from Baseball Presopectus and it seems like he has some of the biggest issues people have with Robin. -

The Ventura obsession here is a little excessive. Sure he makes some strange decisions (particularly with the lineup order though the importance of that isn't huge) but so do a lot of managers, the standard isn't exactly high. Ventura actually ranked in the top third in terms of good use of your best relievers in high leverage situations last year: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/2015-mlb...ny-joe-girardi/ Inspiring the players and creating a good atmosphere in the clubhouse is less tangible but it seems like in the last month anything bad the players do is on Robin and not on the fact that we have a lot of bad players. By far and away the White Sox's biggest problem has been talent evaluation. Nobody's really doing anything dramatically different than what you'd expect given their career numbers and random deviation. I like Hahn but his poor decisions have effected this team more than Robin's in my opinion. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) Putnam has deceptive stuff but it's not dominating enough to completely miss bats, either. His swinging strike rate is third in all of baseball. Quite separately from that, he can't find the zone tonight, and should have been pulled after the second batter. -
Just to add to the list of complaints, Dioner Navarro has been a disaster. He absolutely can't receive.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) Didn't you just get done telling mean ERA isn't so important? Over 1 start. Longer term it gets better. I still prefer peripherals. By them, depending on which you use, he's middle of the pack. Which we would kill for. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:09 PM) Of course Guerra is awesome. He pitches in a league that has no DH and half of their teams are rebuilding. Well 52 starters have managed a worse ERA than him in the NL. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) You are right, runs allowed is not nearly as important as strikeouts. Junior Guerra is awesome and will remain so for years, Short-term ERA is not a very reliable indicator, K%-BB% is one of many things that is proven to be better off at predicting future ERA. Also all Guerra has to be is an average no.5 starter to make me right for moaning in the offseason about how we let him go for nothing, anything else is a bonus. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) so an ERA close to 4.00 in a game maybe his best start? You are too in love with strikeouts. You would have loved Javy Vazquez. And you are too in love with ERA. But, have it your way. His last start he gave up 1 run over 6.2 innings to the Mets. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) Junior's ERA iisn't so great against teams that aren't going to lose 95 games this year. a) those wins still count the same b) his best start of the season was arguably his 7.0 IP, 11K, 3BB, 3ER outing versus... the Cubs. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) It is always a good idea to judge a trade as quickly as possible, and base some of it on AA stats. I said "could" and I'm not basing it solely on the stats, generally it's not good trading cost-controlled top 100 prospects. Plus only 4.2 of those innings are at AA. Btw Junior Guerra is still pitching extremely well for the Brewers. How 'bout that. -

I know everyone loves the Frazier trade but I just checked out Montas's stats since coming back from injury for the Dodgers. Between AA and AAA: 16.0 IP, 22K, 3BB, 2.25 ERA. Could end up being 12 years of a quality OF and a no. 2 starter (plus Micah who has been bad) for 2 years of a quality 3B. -

This whole 'change the speed of your fastball' version of Sale is bulls***. That pitch was 89mph. How about just throw your fastball at 95 and then your changeup. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) Only paying full attention to Chris's exact pitches in this inning, but continuing a trend from this season, not a single changeup thrown yet. If Sale is following the catcher, that's another way Navarro is killing us in addition to framing. It's arguably his best pitch. Sequence to Iglesias: Fastball Fastball Fastball Fastball Slider Fastball ffs -
