QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) Need to get Avi going again. That average is free falling. Looks possibly like he doesn't trust his knee when he swings. It was always gonna free fall, injury or no -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 07:03 PM) I gotta admit that this is where I agree with Hawk. If your team is struggling to score runs why sacrifice defense? I like Gordon at 3rd because Gillaspie is just too inconsistent. These are dumb generalisations. It's about the valuation of the player as a whole. Sanchez is not providing anywhere close to enough defence to make up for his completely horrendous offence. At the moment, bar an enormous offensive improvement, the White Sox are much better with Beckham at 2nd and Gillaspie at 3rd. -

Is it wrong if I feel a tiny tinge of disappointment when Flowers does well in a blowout just knowing it buys him more time for games when it will matter? -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) A really predictive number says they are the worst team in baseball and you won't take the bet? I guess it really isn't all that predictive. Do you deliberately do the whole 'don't address critical points of someone's reply and instead do a vague summary' or is it just that you are a little dim? I literally already explained the reasoning. The White Sox have already got 4 extra wins in the bag than the formula said they should have. Those wins are in the book and they're not changing, even if they were lucky. 4 wins can cover about 6 picks in the draft. So no, obviously I wouldn't take that bet. Not to mention I already said that I believe the Sox have certain circumstances that perhaps might make it a little worse than it should be. Not to mention it's a small data set. However, the point I was making is that I'd take it over their win percentage as it is. I would send you some links on the predictive value of BaseRuns, but that would actually require reading and attempting to understand something rather than the smarmy strawmanning you do. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) I bet they won't have the first pick in the 2016 draft. Care to wager? No, I don't think they will either. Not to mention the fact that they've already got the lucky wins in the bag, they have so many hitters performing historically bad compared to their career totals that I can't help but imagine there'll be some improvement. But I would wager that they'll have a higher pick than the 11th pick they currently hold. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) One of those players whose WAR is higher than the aforementioned Samardzija as a 2nd year player and has at least a 50/50 chance to be a cost-controlled contributor on the middle infield for 4 more seasons (the same exact position where we have the most depth but the least high quality depth in the minors). I was actually pretty light on my preseason prediction of the trade in the Bold Predictions thread: QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Tyler Flowers hits under .200 before being replaced by Soto Semien/Bassitt/Phegley/Ravelo produce around the same amount of WAR as Samardzija Abreu has an OBP of over .400 Rodon replaces Danks in the rotation and beats his ERA by over 2 White Sox go under .500 -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) And then we can congratulate ourselves on turning 4 upper-level minor leaguers into a $10 million bill, a poor season, and a sandwich pick with a good chance of never making the upper levels of the minors. With two of those minor leaguers currently putting up wRC+s of 118 and 105 in the majors whilst the guys we kept to play in their positions are at 23 and 47. What an absolutely disastrous trade. -

Phillies -71 They're the worst team in baseball according to BaseRuns, which is really predictive http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=BaseRuns (sort via W column in the 2015 BaseRuns section) -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) And, of course, the year the Tigers finally seem to be coming down to the earth, there are two other teams besides them to run down in the standings. Typical AL Central season in the 2000's (when the Twins weren't winning it). Worth pointing out they've also been insanely, ludicrously lucky -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) That philosophy only works when you have stellar infield defense. In general, the idea of keeping pitch count down...not trying to be too fine, getting ahead in counts with first-pitch strikes and worrying more about getting outs than K's. That worked for the Pirates with the likes of Liriano and Volquez because they had the infield to pull it off. The White Sox, not so much. Oh I know what it means, I'm saying I haven't ever heard Coop being an advocate for it -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 31, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) Even when they were 5 or 6 games under I never stopped believing. I still think this team wins 85-90 games lol -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 30, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) If the Sox are out of it and are looking to sell, some teams that I think would be good trade partners for the Sox would be the Astros and the Blue Jays, who both want starting pitching. Blue Jays get Shark and cash, White Sox get Roberto Osuna and Aaron Sanchez (TBJ front office might see him as a reliever long term). Astros get Shark/White Sox get McCullers, INTL bonus slots and a comp pick. And if I am Rick Hahn I am watching the Marlins very closely, there rumblings about a fire sale coming in the not too distant future. Would you do those deals if you were the Blue Jays or the Astros
