  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) He wasn't "stealing" he was running to stay out of the double play but Soto struck out Not a classic steal, but it still goes down as a caught stealing. Either way it emphasises the same point, he's not fast enough to steal bases.
  2. Successful career stolen bases by Avisail Garcia: 9 Career times caught stealing by Avisail Garcia: 11
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) Nice catch by Avi. Don't understand why most folks here don't like his defense. Because it's terrible. As is his baserunning. STOP TRYING TO STEAL BASES AVI YOU CAN'T DO IT.
  4. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) I wonder what type of impact playing with Alexei and Abreu would have on Guerrero, it might help focus him and keep his head in the game. I wouldn't want to give up too much for him since the Dodgers have basically excommunicated him, maybe Chris Beck and James Dykstra? What? He's started 30 of their 59 games this season, and pinch-hit in a further 16. He's also got a wRC+ of 154, making him a top 20 in the league hitter. We're not getting him for two guys who can't even strike guys out in the minors.
  5. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) Oh yeah that would be better... just don't think we could get much for Danks. I'm not talking about getting something for him, I'm talking about moving him into the Scott Carroll role and possibly saving yourself a Quintana by finding your "decent righty" within the org, which I believe we could well have
  6. Bad call but a) why the hell is Avi stealing, he was 2 for 5 on the season and 9 for 18 on his career, it's a 3-1 count and the guy can't throw strikes right now, and b) why the hell does our dumbass org think Avi can steal 30 bases in a season
  7. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) I think Q is a guy I would explore trading, If a team wants to overpay. He's not the type of guy teams overpay for QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) We have a ton of left hand pitchers .... we have 1 right hander and he has been bad. Doesn't seem illogical to me. Quintana career v LHP: .248/.302/.382 Quintana career v RHP: .261/.318/.393 If you're really that desperate to have more of a righty/lefty split in the rotation despite none of them actually struggling way more against righties, why not move Danks (the way worse pitcher) into a long man roll and give one of our righties like Guerra or Johnson a chance?
  8. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) Has he EVER been able to pitch over mistakes? At some point, part of it is his fault. Yeah, this team gives him jack all run support and shoddy defense, but he isn't exactly innocent of all failure. I'm gonna go ahead and guess he's been capable of pitching over mistakes, what with his consistent ERA in the 3s and all
  9. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) We need to trade Quintana for a decent right hander. With his performance and his contract, that post better be about some guy called John Decent who throws 110mph and is physically allergic to an ERA over 3
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Erik Johnson is back baby. 34 strikeouts and 7 walks in his last 32.1 innings. Meant to put this in the MiLB games thread, but I'll leave it here given its relevance to the major league team.
  11. Erik Johnson is back baby. 34 strikeouts and 7 walks in his last 32.1 innings.
  12. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) I see your point but dude, you can't turn a blind-eye to the ridiculous Robin-bashing and FO-bashing that has infiltrated the bloodstream of Soxtalk. It's only because we've stumbled out of the gate and quite a few players (maybe 6 of them) are batting around .230. I think commenting on the knee-jerkers and anxious men posting here is fair game, no? The haughtiness comes from the bashers, who make everyone else out to be idiots if they don't HATE kw, jr, coop and rv. It's ok to poke fun at the nervous nellies a bit, no? Oh I completely get that. I think the Robin-bashing is wrong and I actually don't pin much if any of the current woes on him. I'm saying that I'm not seeing any of what Dick Allen is saying in this thread. If he was criticising the people celebrating it he'd have a point. He's saying "Soxtalk doesn't want him managing and now Soxtalk wants him managing!". I don't see that.
  13. I'm actually not terrifically happy with his performance so far, and I rate him extremely highly. His good ERA and FIP are more to do with a very unsustainable homer rate. His SIERA (probably the best avanced pitching metric) is 4.41. He's not throwing enough strikes (last performance was a lot better) and he needs the changeup. However, I have full confidence he will become an excellent starter at the MLB level.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) Only Soxtalk would complain the manager they complain is managing won't be managing. I see one comment before yours complaining that Ventura wouldn't be managing, maybe two if you count someone calling it excessive. There's about three comments literally the opposite of what you're talking about, expressing pleasure, with the rest specifically stating their lack of a problem. Unless those specific two posters want Ventura out then I don't see your point. And even if they do, I would imagine their complaints would be more along the lines of "this is indicative of my problems with him, i.e. he doesn't care enough" (not that I agree), not "I don't want Ventura managing" "Wait, now I want him managing!". But you have a big habit of taking Soxtalk as one voice and then haughtily comparing statements from entirely different posters as if they're hypocritical.
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) "Great" might be pushing it and I know the projections didn't really like us, but even then a bunch of guys are hitting below their projections, some well under like Melky. Even if you were pessimistic you shouldn't have expected this kind of offensive ineptitude. The projections didn't like us because we had huge offensive holes at catcher and second base, with question marks elsewhere, horrendous defence/baserunners and huge holes at 4 and 5 in the rotation and just an okay bullpen. I wouldn't say that's anything close to great on paper. I called it as an under .500 team preseason. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) I'd agree with this. We have seen a lot of unearned, earned runs this year. I'd put that more on the fact that we've assembled a team of historically poor defenders/declining players rather than bad coaching.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) You're looking at a differn player, same name Yeah i just copped that
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) They blew it up in 2013 and just let the team suck in general in 2014. This year looked great on paper, but the crime is poor coaching right now. No it didn't
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:04 AM) Chris Sale being a god right now is the reason we can't blow it up. Wasting his prime would be a crime against baseball. Dunno, it's this logic that left us in the sh*t by going for it a year too early. Don't force it just because you have good players in your prime. I'm sure Sale will still be really good in 2016/2017 when it would have made more sense to go for it.
  19. It's like the least least surprising thing ever how much better he is with a proper 3-pitch mix rather than using the slider less than 10 percent of the time
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-basebl/spe.../032715aae.html Another good article on our 10th round pick. Nicknamed Glinedrives. I think I have a favourite non-Fulmer draftee
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) I agree, if you're going to throw s***, make sure it has power. He tore up the the Cape Cod League. Very SSS but he was better in the CCL than he was in the B1G. That's with wood bats and top flight talent. This guys stats are good enough where I immediately thought of Feeky when his name was announced. Seems like someone the A's would draft. He's got crazy BABIPs with only slight above speed but he has kept it up over 4+ adequate-ish data sets. I am trying not to get too excited but to CF range with a crazy strong track record at plate out of a senior sign is a really nice value. At the least, he beats the piss out of Louis Lecich who would be 2014 draft equivalent. High BABIPs at the lower minor league/college level are actually seen as signs of skill and pretty sustainable
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) CF Jackson Glines. Michigan Hit .357/.456/.506 across 4 years with Fresno City College and Michigan. Also hit well in the Cape Cod League. Like that pick a lot better than the 9th.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) They probably see something mechanical they think they can fix. Probably. I wonder if there's a successful pitcher in the majors who gave up more walks than strikeouts in college.
  24. Not sure on the point of this guy, even as a senior sign. His numbers are terrible.
  25. Wouldn't say he struggled hitting just because his batting average was .230. His BABIP was .221 and he walked a ton and hit for power.
